- Daniel Jones for the most part looked sharp throughout. Love his ball placement.
- Jones and Slayton continue to build chemistry. That deep ball for a TD was beautiful.
- Andrew Thomas held up really well. He will get better as the season goes.
- Leonard Williams had a sack.
- Blake Martinez actually looks really solid. Guy was everywhere.
- Bradburry made a few nice plays.
- For the first half, I thought Graham did a really good job confusing the Steelers offense, bringing pressure from all different places.
- I thought for the most part, the team fought hard.
Anything else?

Yeah, you copied my post. Ya jerk.. In all seriousness, I agree. Don’t forget Carter. He played well. I was impressed with Thomas. I didn’t know what to expect from the kid. Playing against Bud Dupree and that Steelers defense is tough on grizzled vets. Kid looked as good as advertised.

There was a lot to like last night. Honestly, run blocking was the only real issue I had.
I liked the play calling and tempo on both sides of the ball. I don't recall being upset too may times with dumb penalties or plays.
All-in-all, I'm pleased with how we looked.

I thought the secondary didn't really do that bad. A lot of it seemed like it was just inexperience.

I thought during periods of the game...they actually looked like a football team. Which was encouraging.
I thought special teams looked good.

I'm positive the ol sucks.
I'm positive ee is not a te and can't block.
Good stopping the run.
Backfield wasn't as bad as I expected.
Jones to slayton could do some damage going forward.

I thought the secondary didn't really do that bad. A lot of it seemed like it was just inexperience. Yep Especially the fears of Ballentine being roasted all game were unfounded, only in the 2nd half when the Steelers made an adjustment to go with a more quick passing game based on rub routes did he start to have some issues (as did the rest of the corners) One other sign I can't recall any dumb penalties, only one or 2 false starts. This looks like a very well coached team that is detail orientated that for the most pary didn't try to do to much and trusted the scheme and coaches. This is why I have a lot of confidence this team is going to be a team coms December that teams will borderline hate to see next on their schedule no matter how much better record wise they are at the time

If only football was 2 quarters. In the second half Snell Jr kept putting yards up in bunches. I agree about the secondary, I was fully expecting a shit show. One of our sacks was caused because the secondary did a phenomenal job.

Not sure if this was a positive for a young offensive line, but did anyone find it very odd and weird that there were no hold penalties?

Anything else? - I just can't get onboard with Daniel Jones. He doesn't get to play with a handicap. He has bouts of brilliance and complete mental lapses. He simultaneously builds our momentum and shatters it. He has franchise capabilities, but I'm not sure he's going to be able to put it together. This is the same issues he had in college too. The one plus for Jones is that he didn't fumble while being under constant duress and sacked. - Slayton has a chance to be a #1 WR. He is definitely building some strong chemistry with DJ. He does disappear for long stretches of the game though. He needs to fix that. - Andrew Thomas did extremely well IMO. Everytime Bud Dupree was in the backfield, it looked like he wasn't who Thomas was assigned to (looking at you TEs). One definite passing downs he kept Dupree in check more times than not. The whole line sucked at run blocking, so I won't directly blame him for that. He gives me hope we got a good one. - Martinez did what he did in Green Bay. High effort, doesn't give up on the play, lots of tackles. He's not a game changer but he's at least competent. - Bradberry was up and down. Mostly up. I think he'll get even better this year. Very high on him. - Leonard Williams was gifted a coverage sack. I don't put any stock in that sack. - Overall, I think Judge has the team fighting for him and not quitting. That's am important step in changing culture. It is only the 1st game though. We'll see what happens when we are 0-8.

Has to be more reliable. At least twice EE got thrown around and accounted for -5 yard losses on SB runs. He just cant block good defenders at all. I thought they played hard all game. But that isnt going to win us games if the other stuff isnt fixed.

#1. The Giants were competitive against one of the better teams in the league. How are you defining "competitive?".
They lost by 10 points at home and that included a garbage time TD at the end of the game.
This is where we are now. Have have been so bad for so long that we are now congratulating our team because they weren't completely blown out at home. This is the new standard I'm afraid. This is what happens when we are desperately trying to cling to anything. That's how bad it is for Giants fans.

The game wound up very much as I expected. I had predicted we score 17 pts. 2 TD's and a FG. That's what we did. I was hoping we'd hold them to under 30 pts which we did.
Our defense I thought played a whale of a first half. We held their run game in check I thought. For us no run game at all and God awful it was too. Imagine if we could actually run and control some of the clock. That long drive with the Jones int. at the goal line was a killer for us I felt. It would have hyped us in the 2nd half. Thought we did fine throwing the ball, Jones was deadly over the middle.
Thought Jones played fine and was pleasantly surprised over his play from last year. I think him and Shepard look really good that nobody seems to notice. Slayton of course had a whale of a game. Barkley looked fine catching the ball, 5 catches 70yds ( not sure of his exact stats).
That OL was the main cause of this loss imo. We couldn't run it in on the fumble recovery from the punt on their 2. A gift wasted. Pitt had 2 fumbles we should have recovered. Still don't know how we missed them.
#75 RT Fleming looked lost he was actually a revolving door. Gates at Center another one who didn't know what to do. Twice when Hernandez pulled right behind Zeitler for SB to follow Gates doesn't tap block the inside rusher and he comes right thru untouched and hits Barks behind the LOS. As our 2 guards are moving their DL backward. The right side Zeitler and Fleming can't straighten out the blocking on a defensive stunt over and over again.
Lets just leave it at that if the OL gets that straightened out it would be a major improvement. Maybe we use Smith in motion to block inside for run support.
I'm glad the first game is out of the way. This next game is our best chance for a victory in the first 5 lets put this game to rest and get ready for game #2.

Exactly. And left 2 scoring opportunities for TD's on the field. I think you are grading them on a handicap. They were competitive in the 1st half, but the defense got beaten up in the second half and Jones demoralized the team after the 19 play drive ended with an INT. I certainly didn't think we were in the game after that.

The Giants on the other hand looked tired.

But you are making my point for me. Bad teams leave scoring opportunities on the field. Good teams cash those in. Bad teams allow the opponent to march down the field for a TD in the last minute of the half.
Which kind of team were we last night?

There's a difference between bad and unprepared. Last year we were bad week 1. Our missed scoring opportunities last night were a matter of timing and practice, not bad football. A couple plays could've changed the outcome against a superior opponent.

Here is my positive. Penei Sewell, OT from Oregon is a top 5 2021 draft candidate. This should be well within the Giants range as they figure to be picking near the top of Round 1.

Or maybe it's just an approach to a young team with a new coaching staff in an offseason that was impacted by a pandemic that resulted in no pre-season. Where you choose to see an empty glass that has been shattered on the floor in a house set ablaze to hopelessness and broken dreams, I choose to see a glass half filled with Johnny Walker Blue.
