He was atrocious Monday night. Which was odd, his talent has never been in question, it’s his durability. But he laid an egg on Monday..

I’m sure if he gets used properly and makes 6 catches on Sunday for 95 yards a lot of these hot takes will cool down. That struck me odd about how he was utilized on Monday. There are a handful of ways to slow down a ferocious rush and quick pops to a TE in space is one of them. On the other hand, there was that play on the goal line where he settled in behind the defender, essentially hiding and giving Jones no passing angle. There was plenty of space 2 strides in front of him which would have given us an easy TD. It leaves me wondering whether he understands the game and his role "in space" the way the really good tight end do.

Of all their theories against a live opponent for the first time

Of all their theories against a live opponent for the first time This is all true with at least three scenarios. 1. We have a player who is easily confused. 2. We have coaching that was ineffective in explaining plays within our game plan. 3. Challenges of COVID impacted 1 and 2 above. Probably others as well

Trade him and get something for him NOW before he gets injured and go Kaden Smith!
I still like Engram talent and natural abilities and I think he will still have a big break out season especially in the passing game but I don't think they should pay him crazy money

I think we're looking at a young team who hasn't really played much together due to COVID restraints who will only get better as the season progresses...

I voted to trade him, he just hasnt put it together here. Lets get rid of him while he still has value, maybe we could get a 3rd rounder for him??
I have a weird feeling that he will be really good and healthy for his future team, but thats just how these things go.
Even if he puts together a good year, i think sadly, I'm already over Engram at te

If he's used properly like last year he's an asset. If he's constantly called on to block like he was Monday night he's a liability.

My opinion is trade him now why we still can and go with Smith Trade him for what? A bag of footballs? We have plenty of those. Hard to trade a player mid season on a contract year. Are you familiar with stocks? Engram right now is a stock that is plummeting. We should have traded him when it was high.

Since we picked up his 5th year option don’t we have him until the end of 2021 I get what you are saying and you should see my stock portfolio. It’s awful. Haha. In all seriousness it was a pick that should have never been made

Knowing our luck he’ll go to another team and become an iron man. And never miss a game

Iron man or not he's never going to be the of TE we need. Couple that with the cost of a second contract alongside his tendency to be hurt. The jury is in and the verdict is: let him walk after next year unless a team in the playoff hunt loses a TE and need a pass receiving type. It should still cost them a #3 which is very unlikely. The best plan is to use him less (until we don't re-sign him) in situations that put him into open lanes that would accentuate his YAC. Keep him far away from the running game.

Sign him cheap. Use him situationally. Find a legit TE - (we may have that with Kaden) we'll have to see.

Look this isn’t a knee Jerk Reaction after week 1. He hasn’t been the player he should be as a first round pick. Often Injured, lots of drops, not a great blocker. I would wait until the draft deadline and then IF, and the is obviously a big IF he is still healthy, Try and trade him to a team that appears to be ready for a playoff run. What would we get for him though? Maybe a 3rd. Probably a 4th. Is it worth it to take what we can get rather then let him walk into Free Agency at the end of the season and get nothing. At the end of the day this is another first round pick that probably won’t make it to his second contract here. Not being picked by DG really works against him as well I agree with you but I do not think we will get anything for him in a trade. If we can not get anything for him I certainly would not sign him to an extension or franchise him. He is not good at all.

I know players slip on routes all the time but when it is Engram and it results in an interception, it makes me want to scream.

Of all their theories against a live opponent for the first time He has been around for a while so being confused does not bode well moving forward. Maybe he was studying the play book with Deandre Baker.

Well well well.... I wont bump my thread from a year and a half ago saying we need to trade him while he has value, but Im not shy about tooting my horn either. (And yes I get stuff wrong too that could be bumped). Good to see you guys coming around. Too late, but still nice to see. Engram is worthless right now. Maybe we could get a 5th rounder for him or something IMO. Might as well just keep him and then let him walk. "Dont draft RBs or TEs in the 1st round unless you are a RB or TE away from being a SB contender." Too many good RBs and TEs can be found in the 2nd round or later. In fact, most are. yep hopefully someone overpays him and we get a decent comp pick
