Gary's at bat was bad. First pitch he's sitting on a fastball for no reason and gets way out ahead of an off speed pitch. With 0-2 count and no reason to expect a strike he swings over a ball barely above the dirt for stike 3. Boone had already committed to Sanchez on deck when Gardner was at bat. In hindsight had he known gardy would drive in a run and get wade in scoring position, if he would have left higgy in instead. I would have. We needed smart there any kind of hit or walk...not just some guy who only knows how to swing for the fences.

As expected, the Rays aren't laying down for nobody. That insurance run in the 9th proved to be the difference. Just win 1 of the games please. Why wasn't your closer pitching top 9? I would have thought these games are important enough to do that. Especially with the heart of your lineup coming up bottom 9.

Id like to hear an explanation for that too.

I feel like we are about to witness the Yankees version of the Giants collapsing and giving up the GW FG as time expires.
I have zero hope they win a game vs Tampa. And I'm sure Boston and Toronto won't lose.

Well, I don’t see any scrubs in their line up tonight… That's awesome. Lol…. How did I ever hate you way back when?

No runs allowed but a lot of pitches and high counts.

Mariners late night loss guaranteed Yankees a worse case part of three way tie for 2nd spot. It's still an unlikely scenario, it means they play Monday. How it actually works with 3 teams is unclear to me

Mariners late night loss guaranteed Yankees a worse case part of three way tie for 2nd spot. It's still an unlikely scenario, it means they play Monday. How it actually works with 3 teams is unclear to me The 3 way tie is weird. A three-team tiebreaker would involve Teams A, B, and C. A four-team tiebreaker -- still gloriously possible at the moment -- would involve Teams A, B, C, and D. Tied teams are ordered based on combined head-to-head winning percentages -- e.g., the Red Sox' combined 2021 record against the Mariners and Blue Jays would be their figure if they were involved in a three-team tiebreaker with those two squads. The team with the best combined head-to-head record gets choose A, B, or C. The team with the next best head-to-head record chooses second and so on. Here's how a "three teams for one spot" tiebreaker would work, for the sake of an example: Team A hosts Team B. The winner hosts Team C. If you get first choice, then you're picking A or C. Picking A would mean having to win two games but getting to host both of them (assuming you win the first one). Picking C would mean having to win only one game but also having to do so on the road. In a four-team tiebreaker, the top three teams have a choice to make, while the fourth team is left with the only letter designation remaining. The team picking third in that situation in essence has to choose which of the top two teams it wants to play on the road. Three teams tie for one wild card: Teams A, B and C are assigned as noted above and they play as noted above -- i.e., B at A, followed by the winner of A-B at home against C with the bid at stake. www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/2021-mlb-playoffs-every-tiebreaker-scenario-explained-as-nl-west-al-wild-card-races-wind-down/

Angel Hernandez is the home plate umpire in game 162 for the Yanks and Rays.
This guy must have murder evidence on Rob Manfred.
Can't wait for him to screw up a huge call.

Lol…. How did I ever hate you way back when? Ha....Well the difference between you and me at this point is that my team has WAY overachieved. No way they have any business winning 90 games with that pitching staff. You team has underachieved and is fighting with teams who have inferior talent for a WC spot.
I'm just enjoying my team, which is actually a pretty fun unit to watch. You guys are hanging on every pitch.

No team with a $185M payroll is overachieving by getting 90 wins.

The Rays have no chill in them at all. How crazy would it be if they got swept by the Rays?

Montgomery picked one helluva time to have his worst start of the year. Like I said earlier in the thread, the Rays will make quick work of whomever the wild card team is.

Just end the season tomorrow….. I'm not surprised one bit by the back to back duds that this team put out against Tampa Bay. They would just get worked by them in the ALDS anyways.

and just think , a Yankees win tomorrow and red Sox win out, red Sox have to play Yankees to lose the WC game. Given Yankees domination of red Sox down the stretch, yeah its their best case scenario (blue Jays and mariners both look stronger).

No team with a $185M payroll is overachieving by getting 90 wins. Unfortunately none of that money was spent on pitching.

I'd say may the best team win, but I really would like it to be the Yanks...
