That is why Dom Smith should not be sitting on opening day. I don't dispute not starting him. But not pinch hitting him was a mistake. Bottom line is if your BP and defense is going to give up 5 runs in the 8th, you won't win. First game in a weird covid situation. Let's see how it goes.

You know you’re thinking it, is 5 runs enough of a lead? My scarred life as a Mets fan. 😂

Left a ton of men on base again today. Bullpen first pitch a 3 run homer. Lindor is like 1 for 10.
Looks a lot like last year early on.

I start to care about numbers about 40 games in, and I start thinking about what is wrong with the team. By about 55 games, those random worries become real if they haven't shown any improvement in those areas. I guess I'm still stuck on the old axiom that every team wins 54 and loses 54 and it's what they do in the third third that really matters.

And I think not playing for almost a week with the Nat's issue didn't help. Just disappointing to see the same old issues.

I will take it. Nice cheating Conforto. Probably the only way for him to get it done with someone in scoring position.

I see the Jacob DeGrom offensive support show has shown up in full force today. At least 7 guys went 0 for. Glad I golfed. Only saw the last 2 innings. Conforto went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts. Hitting .143.

I can buy the delayed start because of the Nat's covid issues, but this is looking (yes very early) a lot like every other Mets season the past few years. Starting pitching hurt before and during the season, check. Highly paid FAs underachieving like never before, check. No one in the bullpen is reliable on any given day, no matter how much we pay or trade for them, check. I agree with sarc on the 40/40 rule, but it's hard to watch already. Just MO.

So far, new owner, new enthusiasm, same Mets. Conforto looking bad, but here is my biggest problem with Lindor. 2 men on, no outs and he gets up 2-0. He proceeds to sit there and stare at 2 good pitches. You ain’t getting paid 341 million to try and draw walks in that situation with a hitters count. Then on 3-2 flies out. Come on bro.

First and second, no outs. Need one walk off hit in bottom 7th. Top of the order.
Nope...0-7 with risp. Even Dom struck out.

Pete breaks an 0-18 risp streak to tie it in the 8th, they win it with an RBI double by Villar with bases loaded Maybe they can get off the risp schneid. Still hate the silly man on second extra innings rule.

Or maybe put a runner on first base in extra innings. I get they are trying to prevent ridiculous games, but putting a runner in scoring position in the first extra inning is just not baseball.

I get they are trying to prevent ridiculous games, but putting a runner in scoring position in the first extra inning is just not baseball. I said it last year. The 2 worst rules were 7 inning double headers and runners starting on 2nd base. Not baseball. Not natural. Completely ruins the game. I wanted them to keep the universal DH and 3 hitter minimal for relief (or end of innings). Those 2 rules were the least damaging and actually made some sense. Also, 100% on board with robo ump calling balls and strikes. Been so for years. Manfred sucks

This is the problem I have with the double header rule . Is a 7 inning no hitter or prefect game fair compared to those in a 9 inning game?

Three of my favorite aspects of the game are how catchers frame pitches, pitchers with crazy movement on their pitches, and umpires who bellow out the calls and use animated motions. All that goes away or gets negated by robo umps, and people and players will still likely complain about the calls.

Watching the Mets early this season, I notice they occasionally show a pitch from behind the umpire.
I think they think they are trying to show something from the batter's perspective, but it's horrible and you can't see shit.
Anyone else seeing this view on other broadcasts?

Wow. An actual come from behind win in the final at bat behind deGrom. And Diaz strikes out the side for the save without giving fans a heart attack.
Who was that team and what have they done with my Mets?
