While his career with the Giants ended on a sour note, Shockey was a lot of fun to watch early on in his career.

I like to remember the good Shockey. You know, the guy running over Texans his rookie year in the preseason. Or when he caught a pass against the Eagles and is fighting for extra yards with no helmet. And how can we forget when he caught the game winner over HOF Brian Dawkins.. He was one of those players who left it all on the field. He was going to fight for every yard, and do whatever it takes to make a play for the team. He was one tough son of a bitch.
When you play tightend for the Giants you better be tough, smart and good. From the days of Tucker, Mowatt, Bavaro and Cross. We don’t like our tightends to be pretty boys. We want lunch pail players who kick ass on Sundays. And that was Shockey..

He was fun to watch for sure. He both delighted and frustrated me.

I always rooted just a little harder for Shockey. When Shockey was drafted #1 out of Miami I was day dreaming about getting another Bavaro type player. He did show toughness and at the time boy did we need that. Hell when don't you ?

He was fun to watch for sure. He both delighted and frustrated me. we all liked him. His mouth was his own worst enemy. Like OBJ, why wouldn’t the guy just play? Imagine the memories had Shockey not been so vocal and that idiot Plax didn’t shoot himself. Can’t see the Giants losing in 2008. Maybe 2010 ends differently. The team had so much talent.

Shockey was a good Giant. He played hurt and put up some really good numbers. Playing hurt most likely cut his career short.

He was a horrible teammate. His down fall with the Giants In 2006, Shockey would openly criticize the coaching staff after games and scream at QB Eli Manning on the field and on the sidelines. His vow to Mara to act like a Giant and play like a Giant was suddenly a thing of the past. He had stopped attending voluntary practices and team activities. He had become a prima donna.
In 2007, humility would come knocking. On his way to another trip to the Pro Bowl, Shockey broke his leg in a December game against the Redskins, ending his season. The Giants would lose only one more game without him in their stretch run to becoming Super Bowl Champions.
Shockey did not travel to the Super Bowl with the team. It was said that he needed extra space because his leg was in a cast. He did not participate in may team meetings and activities. During the game, he sat in a luxury suite because it was deemed 'too hazardous' for him to be on the Giants sideline.
TV scans of the booth showed empty beer bottles and cups in front of Shockey and others in the booth. Had Mara been alive, that would not have been permitted. When the Giants won, Shockey did not attend the parade through the Canyon of Heroes.
He also opted out of the Super Bowl ring ceremony at Tiffany's and the team celebration at The White House. He apparently was up set the team succeeded without him. His understudy, rookie Kevin Boss, filled in quite nicely - even making a key reception in the Super Bowl. His downfall in NO ( they didn't put up with his antics either ) New Orleans was the worst place for Shockey, who has always shown poor impulse control. He loves to party, in case you haven't heard. The 2008 season turned out to be a waste for the hulking tight end. Reunited with former Giant OC Sean Payton, Shockey seemed to be on the verge of having a breakout season. After a great opening game, it appeared he and QB Drew Brees hit it off. But that changed quickly when Shockey was sidelined for 5 weeks with a sports hernia.Of course, he looked for someone to blame, pointing fingers at the medical staff for not providing the proper treatment. During his time off, he slunk back into his depression - or paranoia - whichever you prefer. When Shockey returned to the lineup, he did little to impress. Brees rarely called his number.link

One of my favorite Giants of all time. My daughter used the word "Shockey" to label all her valuables. We are a Shockey family.
You are free to hate a guy who played that hard and was that intense. He is exactly what Giants football is supposed to be about.
In our family, he did nothing except play his ass off for Big Blue. If he wronged you somehow, that is on you. He fills me with nothing but Giants pride.
Barking at that scumbag Brian Dawkins when he caught that winning TD in 2002 to go the the playoffs? That's up there with BJ knocking out the light on the Dallas play clock. And when TC came in and a new system which didn't highlight the TE was brought in, he became one of the best blocking TE's in football.
Bad teammate? That is crazy talk.
And I don't know what he "did to himself". He was one of the best TE's of his time and has two SB trophies on his mantle.

Did you read watch him bad mouthing and yelling at his coaches and teammates . (Definition of bad teammate) Did you see read the crap he pulled in NO? Here is real an example of, "crazy talk". Blaming a player placed on IR for the Giants 5-10 record. To refresh your memory As quoted by you in December "Saquan...by his mere existence, has led us to our wonderful record. I do remember him bad mouthing the coaching staff, and I remember Tiki doing that too.
We all know the players couldn't stand TC when he first got there.
I remember having a former player at our office back in '06 who couldn't stand Tom. He basically described him as being insane. And I'll admit that that colored my opinion of Tom early on. His family, which grew up Giants fans, now loathes them.

In TC's defense and no Player that "couldn't stand him" ever came out to say. Maybe I was wrong in my assessment. He was a fundamental piece of 2 teams that placed 2 in the case.

Michael Strahan said he hated TC at first. Then several Giants filed a grievance to the NFLPA against him in 2004. Not the last one filed against Tom. A different grievance filed just a few years ago in Jax got TC fired from there.
Ironically, in 2004, it was Tiki who came to TC's defense by saying that these things should be kept inside the team. That players shouldn't be running to the NFLPA about their coach.

Like many egotistical players he held himself above the team.
Now he's just a foot note in the NFL

Other than Mark Bavaro, he was the greatest TE in Giants history. And he has two SB trophies on his mantle...and 4 pro bowls in 6 years as a Giant.
I don't get this desire to cancel great Giants players. There are a lot of fans who hold Jeremy Shockey in very high regard....like me.
He is far from a footnote to me.

Guys like you are determined to trash great Giants. Not for their play on the field, which is always fair game, but to trash them personally. You went out to scour the internet to show some morons opinion of Jeremey Shockey. You called him a bad team mate. That is completely made up.
Why on earth would you do that? The guy left everything, and I mean everything on the field. He dislocated his finger in warm ups at Tenn., then was ruled out. He then taped it up and played a full game. THIS is what I want from the player on my team. That is what Jeremy Shockey was.
You guys do everything you can to take the fun out of being a Giants fan. That is the bottom line. You take a guy who is beloved by a huge number of Giants fans, including a 55 year Giants fan like me and do everything to devalue him.
I think it's disgusting behavior from a fellow Giants fan.
And yes, it pisses me off. You want to run to the other Mods over that? I say go for it. I will apologize for nothing on this.

Exactly GT, and I feel pretty silly to have to type this but I took MS' comment to be in vein of say "your crazy." It seemed rather innocuous and not worth getting upset about.
It wasn't as if MS repeatedly was calling TEM insane or tried to imply that he was which was similar to what was done to me the other day. This poster went out of his way to repeatedly tell me I'm a moron. Of course the funny thing was the sheer stupidity of him actually attacking an admin - unless of course the goal was to be a martyr.
But let's try not to be so sensitive and understand that it's only natural to respond in a personal manner at times. I'm speaking hypothetically and not about any specific exchange.
