Do think Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham is going to mold in multiple training camps his defensive unit into one of the best in the NFL. As the Giants thru free agent signings and the draft, have obtained even more impactful defensive players then they already had, and added depth at virtually position.
I foresee the Giants tackling opponents in the backfield more often, creating and recovering more fumbles, having an exceptional pass rush that will result in more opponent yardage losses, more incomplete passes, and the Giants making more interceptions downfield.
Such will result in opponents making fewer first downs, and having a difficult time sustaining long drives. Don’t see opponents being on the field for long periods of time. The Giants should win the time battle for possession of the ball handily in most games.
Foresee opponents scoring far fewer points than they did last season. ]So sit back and enjoy. Going to be a pleasure to watch. Go Giants!

There doesn't seem to be any weak position groups here, and the off season acquisitions seem to have greatly improved how they will handle man coverage in the secondary. Options for shifting between the 3-4 to the 4-3 also shored up. Playing Safety will now be a fun job for these guys.

So much optimism in this thread, it should be fattening.. The sit back it’s going to be a pleasure to watch this team was the icing on this funny cake. Might as well say, the ‘85 Bears defense pales in comparison to our defense.
I too think the defense will be our strength of our team. I’m basing that strictly off of last year’s performance. If everyone stays healthy, and guys don’t take a step back. We should be a top 10 defense. We have depth across the board, and talented players led by I think one of the top assistants in Patrick Graham. Take a good look at him this season, if the defense plays anywhere like it did last year, he will be a head coach for another team. This won’t be a Dick LeBeau scenario unfortunately. Graham seems like the kind of coach who wants the opportunity to progress and take his talents to what most assistants strive for. Being a head coach.

But, after we lost our top assistant Spags our defense went into the shitter quick. Losing Graham would be a huge loss, and not easily replaced. Depending on how the season goes, we could lose our offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator in one offseason. Most will not lose sleep over losing Garrett. But, Graham? That will hurt.

We'll see. I prefer an explosive front 7. We don't really have that. This defense is built around its secondary. Time will tell if that secondary can regularly cover just long enough for the front 7 to get to the QB.

I think it was smoke and mirrors a lot of times last year. Decent run D, but we need to get much better in the secondary. The better offenses ripped through us at will.

Especially if Lawrence takes another step forward. That Williams & Lawrence combo on the DLine can make things a lot easier for the LB group.
This team on both sides of the ball is built for situational football.

They signed Adoree Jackson and drafted two more corners for a reason plus they will have McKinney's services full time if he is now healthy and remains that way. I expect dramatic improvement in the secondary and an improved pass rush will also assist in that area.

Think if the secondary comes along and improves even more this year it can make up the difference.

While we DID lose DT, we gained a number 2 CB, another ILB, 3 more edge rushers, and found a possible replacement for Tomlinson in Shelton.
Sucks we lost DT, but I have a feeling we are going to be much better than we were last season, especially if our edge rushers can actually stay healthy and we arent forced to field TJ Brunson, Devante Downs, Cam Brown and Carter Coughlin as 3 down starters

I tend to not break down the LBer group so far as to be concerned about Edge, I think it's a decent and deep bunch. As you say, 2 guys returning and a great draft pick, I think the fellow from the Vikings can be also used there. I'm expecting more Safety blitzes this season, too.

I know our group is unproven, but man, on paper, they look like they have potential. Zo Carter, Ximines, Olujari, Ryan Anderson, Carter Coughlin, Cam Brown and Ifeadi Odenigbo arent really proven, but they have potential to be tremendous .... Or fall short of the hype. Between the VERY stout DL and the newly improved 2ndary, I am not concerned with our Edge Rushers. As long as the DL does their job, the 2nd level defenders should be able to fly around the field

Yes I forgot about the kid from Vikings I think they are gonna multiple from safety and the slot they just drafted a kid who is physical and can blitz same with Holmes. I think they have to pieces for Graham to be as creative as he wants or as much as he can come up with.

I think that is key letting some of these kids get reps in packages that play to their strengths last year they got tossed into the fire.

Yes You've been around long enough, you should be aware of this I'm aware that some fans out here continue to over rate some of the Giants draft picks.. Still not sure why fans think these late round draft picks are ALL going to become good enough starting material for this team..

Yeaaaaaa, that wasnt my favorite pick either. I would have taken Tyler Shelvin, Rashed Weaver, Tylan Wallace, Daviyon Nixon, or Quincy Roche over a Smith, then again im not a scout

I'm just repeating what most of us have already said and think. But I don't know if this point has been mentioned or not. With our improved offense this will help our defense so much. Last year our defense was on the field the majority of the time and we were still a top 10 defense in the league. With our offense on the field more time this season our defense might have 1 or 2 less series to defend per game. We should also benefit from possibly playing with a lead. Our improvement in DB's that can play man . The obvious we can blitz more often. Our entire secondary is going to be so strong. Of course the pass rush and secondary benefit from one another's success. DL- B+ to A depending on Sheltons success. He should have a real good year between LW and Dex. LBing - Martinez A+ strong, Ojulari B, will help so much, the rest is a ? C- to D CB - A- , strong, the acquistion of Adoree Jackson is gold. He will show up big to help Bradbury S - A to A+, 4 strong Ryan, Peppers, McKinney, and Love. And Love it I do. I could keep talking about my optimism for this unit but you all know everything I would say anyway.

The biggest problem on this team will be the same old, same old. Our offensive line is and will be the weak link. Two old adages will always apply . This season will be no exception.
The best defense is a good offense.
You are only as good as your weakest link.

He will be a very solid compliment to Martinez on the inside and even outside at times. This element was missing glaringly at times last season and caused Martinez to have too much on his shoulders.
