Exactly thats why Shanny Jumped on the chance to bring him in, there were many disconnects Travis Bechem was another WCO fit him best, Clint Sintem also Odd man front OLB. Richberg was highly regarded coming out, he had that one 3/4 season in his 2nd year with the niners where he lived up to his draft status but he got hurt, never really reclaimed the job an undrafted guy beat him out don't know who is there center now. He and Pugh had the same issues with health Pugh has gotten through couple years in a row and has be a middle of the pack guard for the Cards he was expensive to 9.5 a year. Reese didn't seem to highly value physicality in players ... lots of softies I think he and TC saw the game through 2 different lenses, I agree tho he loved the combine champions first a kid has to be a good football player.

Fans have short memories. He was part of our disastrous line that couldn’t push a shopping cart. ‘16 was his best season, I believe he gave up only one pressure all year. However, he couldn’t run block for shit. Good player, no doubt. I still believe that was Gettlemans best decision letting him and Pugh walk. Agree 100% neither of them have lived up to there draft status or the contract they signed with there new teams. Pugh is average at best and did miss a bunch of time with AZ the first couple years he was there at 10 and 9.5 mill each in hind sight it was the exactly what should have been done. Whenever Justin Pugh’s name comes up. I think of the playoff game when Mike Daniels threw him into another zip code. After that, I was counting down the seconds when his contract would be up. And we would be rid of the Eagles fan..

One thing I will say is when they drafted him I was happy he was a top 3 of his class, I was worried about his size he was under 300 and we weren't a zone blocking scheme team. I won't BS I wanted Martin when we picked OBJ I was Ok with it if the got a top notch OL in rd2 and it seemed they did, no one could predict who's gonna bust or not it's tough, Richbergs down fall was health but make no mistake he also suffered big time with inconsistent play he could put together some probowl bordering on all pro tape, then puff an injury and he would come back and look like tomato can like he never played football before his first year in San fran was like that and they were ripping Shanny on the signing.

Did you see the SF rushing game in 2018 and 2019?
Then it dropped by 500 yards in 2020.
I haven't watched film on Richberg, but it's clear he was a part of a dominant rushing game in SF.
good for him but players that can’t stay healthy are what ruined this organization the last decade. Smart move dumping him when we did

This is basically what I saw. He was small and easily manhandled.
This talk of him being really good doesn't jibe from what I saw.
I certainly do not remember him coming in and solidifying the middle.
Wasn't true in SF. And there is a reason they paid him all that money.
....and coaching the O line has been a huge problem for us over the last several years.
Sometimes a change in scenery, and change in scheme really help a player. Martinez was considered a very flawed player coming over from GB to here. But he ended up having a great season here. Doesn't change whether or not he was good in GB. I thought RIchburg was adequate for his position. Definitely a better fit in a zone scheme where his mobility is more of an asset and it's not as reliant on power. He was always a decent pass block though.

This underscores the importance of understanding the heart of who we draft.
This doesn't mean good guy bad guy. It means who lives to compete when things get tough.
I had my doubts with Pugh but gave more latitude to Richburg.
This is a tough business and it takes tough people to compete.
Adequate is not good enough for round 3 or higher picks.

Once a Giants always a Giant. He will always get flowers from me.
Btw.. I only respect that statement 100% if we drafted said player.
On the flip side, if a FA contributed greatly to the success of our team (Boley, Rolle, Madison, etc..) they get the same 100%

He was bad and injured in SF ... horrific signing by them. A very underrated non-move by Gettleman

In the end he was soft and SF missed that.......
Pugh was also soft.
Neither answered our need at OL which is still an open Q today.
