Ladies and Gents.....the Knicks are back baby!! What a season this has been. The fat lady hasn't even thought about singing yet, but for the first time in years I'm excited for what the Knicks are building and wanted to take a quick peek into the off-season. I'm not a NBA nerd like I am the NFL, so this is more for self education to see what's in store for the roster. As the Summer goes on, I'll update the thread with draft and FA hopes. Below is list of players still under contract in 2021, a list of current Knicks set to be Free Agents, and a link to players set to be Free Agents across the NBA. I've also included a handful of thoughts/Q's at the bottom, for anyone interested. Go Knicks!!! Under Contract in 2021-2022: www.spotrac.com/nba/new-york-knicks/cap/2021/- Julius Randle - PF (25)
- RJ Barrett - SG (20)
- Obi Toppin - PF (22)
- Luca Vildoza - PG (25)
- Immanuel Quickley - SG (21)
- Norvel Pelle - PF (27)
- Kevin Knox - SF (21)
- Mitchell Robinson - C - (22)
Knicks set to be Free Agents in 2021-2022: www.spotrac.com/nba/new-york-knicks/cap/- Alec Burks - SG (29)
- Reggie Bullock - SF (29)
- Derrick Rose - PG (31)
- Frank Ntilikina - PG (22)
- Elfrid Payton - PG (26)
- Taj Gibson - PF (35)
- Nerlens Noel - C (26)
Free Agents in 2021-2022: www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/Thoughts & Q's.....- We have a promising group of talent coming back in 2021. What are our biggest needs at this point?
- We have four draft picks to work with. Unfortunately the Mavericks had a solid season, so our picks will be mid to late rounders.
- The Knicks need a true alpha #1. As much as I love Randle, he's more of a #2, maybe even a #3 on a championship team. Is there a FA we need to go all-in on at this point, or is it better to wait until 2022?
- Should sign Randle long term now or wait until 2022?
- Should we re-sign Derrick Rose? He's been a stud, but his legs still concern me and he'll likely command a big contract.
6. We should bring back Noel and Gibson. I love the effort and leadership both bring. When Robinson went down, these two stepped big time.

I will just start by saying you have to keep Derrick Rose. I think he will take a fair number, unless somehow Lillard becomes available.

Initially, I was concerned he was going to damper IQ's development but that hasn't been the case at all. I'd love to have him back.

By the way last night is a prime example of why Lillard may be ready to go. Those whispers(this is never an accident) already started during the season. What a super human effort. If you can have him and Randle as 1A and 1B they would be so tough. No longer could teams focus their whole D around stopping 1. This is who they should be targeting.

Knicks had a really nice run this year. It was the most satisfying season in a long time, and should set them up for good things to come. The playoff series showed how far they have to go though. For the first time in a long time, I'm looking forward to what they do this offseason, and think they could be one of the teams to beat in the east next year.

At least the Knicks fans on here were grounded and not acting like they won the championship after that game 2 win. Things are looking up for them. I wouldn't sleep on Lillard coming there. He is actually an outstanding rapper who could make it really big off the court in NYC.

Draft day baby! I'm surprised at how excited I am to watch tonight.....hope I'm not setting myself up for disappointment. I haven't done much research, but have been reading up on potential targets in recent days. All signs point to it being a very deep draft, some saying the deepest in recent memory. The fact we currently have four picks at 19, 21, 32, and 58 should bode well for us. We need a PG, we need to improve our shooting, and I'd contest we need help down low with a PG and/or C. With it being so deep, and with there being no player who truly stands out among the crowd after the first handful, II prefer we stay put with all 4 picks. I'm sure I'm forgetting some names, and I'm sure there are others I didn't even research, but here's a quick list of players I wouldn't be upset drafting: - Isaiah Jackson (PF/C)
- Davion Mitchell (PG)
- Chris Duarte (3&D)
- Tre Mann (PG)
- Trey Murphy (3&D)
- Miles McBride (PG)
- Kai Jones (PF)
- Usman Garuba (PF)
- Charles Bassey (C)
Hold onto the picks, don't trade away the farm for a FA, and let's keep building.
Go Knicks.

So, what happened? How confusing... Trade in trade back trade up trade out. Who did they wind up with? Holy goodnight, the NBA draft is confusing. So many trades, including the Knicks trading back multiple times. Overall I'm fine with the draft. I think us trading down was a direct result of Trey Murphy and Tre Mann being drafted by the Grizzly (17) and Thunder (18). It seems most fans weren't too happy with us not trading up to get a "stud," but I think the players we ended up with fit Thib's style and a couple of them should have an immediate impact. We got a 3&D type player from Houston (Quentin Grimes). Apparently a real hard worker, and shot 40%+ from behind the arc. We also got a kid named McBride who is a menace type player. A bit undersized, but tenacious on defense, strong, and can score. These two are the ones I think Thibs had a direct hand in as they both play defense, both are known to be hard workers at practice, and both can score. I don't know much about the other players (Jokubaitis & Sims) but Joku is from Lithuania and is apparently an under the radar offensive weapon. Sims is a big, atheltic kid who should run the floor well but needs work offensively. Overall.....seems pretty good?

Felt like I was watching the Giants drafting again and there goes Dovonte Smith. Mann would have been a solid guard addition.

If there’s not something more major in the offing for the Knicks they will be no better than an overachieving also-ran next year. Don’t get me wrong, I like what they did. However, other teams continue to strongly improve while the Knicks mostly stayed the same.

Kemba Walker going to the Knicks. Always liked him going back to his Uconn days. What in the....are the Knicks actually making good, intelligent basketball moves? All signs point to the Knicks getting a hell of a deal. I was concerned we may have traded some younger talent, or had to pay a big contract, but neither happened. We kept our team intact, from what I hear we got him on a deal for cheaper than Noel's, and we still have space to make another move if we need. Win-Win-Win. If healthy, we now have a bonafide all-star PG for the first time in at least two decades. What a day for the good guys.

Such an odd time to be a Knicks fan. Every time you think it’s time to be disappointed they actually do something positive. I don’t know how to handle this. 😂

Knicks resign Randle to massive deal.
4 year $117m
I'm not sure this is a smart move based on the way he finished and played in the playoffs. He got erased.
Hopefully he proves them right and plays like he did early in the year.

I think it’s a great move. They added 2 other players that can create their own shot effectively. Now that makes 4 on the roster. That will help Randle out. When you see what other players are getting paid this is completely fair.

Yea, I tend to agree it's a good move. From what I understand, if he waited to become a FA next year his contract would've been $200M+. I believe he was quoted as saying he wanted to get the deal done early so 1) his prime years will be locked in with the Knicks and 2) so that the Knicks can save money long term to continue building the roster.
If that's true, I'm an even bigger fan of Randle than I was before. Family taking care of each other.

Of course I'm a Nets fan, but I like what the Knicks have done this offseason. It is amazing how well run the Knicks are win Jimmy Dolan stays out of sight and mind.
