very sad, I always liked Fassel, seemed like a really good man. To me he was a breath of fresh air after Handley and Reeves. RIP!!

Yeah...he stepped up as the NYGs HC. More wins than losses, NFC Championship, SB appearance and a few playoffs. Coach of the year too in 1997.
Rest in Peace Jim and peace to your family .

I'm pushing all my chips to the middle of the table, anyone who wants in get in, anyone who wants out can get out....this team is going to the playoffs.
That to me was still one of the ballsiest things I've ever seen a coach do, he put it all on the line. He was a big reason Kerry Collins became a good QB and he coached us to a SB.
RIP Coach

True , yet I remember sitting at the NFC Champion ship game against the Vikings and I just never thought I would see the Giants dominate any game like that game 41-0 ! RIP Jim! I litterally joined up at the old boards a week before as I finally got online .. What a feeling that was after the game

He’s the forgotten coach around here. It’s rare we talk about him in a positive note, and after his brief stay at Baltimore he couldn’t buy a job in the NFL. In his time here he was coach of the year, and a Conference champion. He had the unfortunate luck in facing an all time defense in the super bowl. If only the Titans won that game, I feel we would have wiped the floor with them.
Rest In Peace Jim. No need to put your chips in, all us fans are doing it for you now..

Vikings I think got the ball to start the 2ne and had a very uninspired 3 and out I think they collectively quit in the locker room We had our backups in by the end of the 3rd or we would have put up 60 BTW our own Jason Garrett was our backup

That was a great game and a solid team.
Jim brought respectability and stability back our team.
(edit - I met Jim at the Crow's Nest once. I have to say he was very nice, very engaging when me and a buddy went up to say hello)
Sad to hear about his passing.

Very sad. The 41-0 thromping of the Vikings in the 2000 Championship game was the most enjoyable game from start to finish I've ever watched as a Giants fan. He had some great moments as our HC, some bad ones. We've seen how bad it can really get. He left on a bad note, but Fassel was significantly better than the last few coaches we've had.
This is a sad day in Giants history.

RIP Jim!...A very friendly guy who I had the pleasure to spend a few minutes with, at the Chelsea Piers on the Hudson, in '97. His 40 footer "Big Blue" was docked in the Marina and Jim was stowing away some gear in the stern. Being a big Giants fan, I recognized him immediately and called out to him. To my surprise, he responded and we spent a few minutes talking about our favorite subject. So sorry to hear that he has passed.

It was loud that day but in the Parcells era it was even louder. Loudest game I went to was Giants hosting Washington 10/28/90. It was a 4pm game and was a chilly/raw fall day with drizzle. www.profootballarchives.com/weather/1990nfl100.htmlThat game put us at 7-0 and separated us from the rest of the division. It was actually a tight exciting game but never have I heard it that loud and never has it gotten that loud again. Francesa did the post game on WFAN that evening and he even commented how loud it was that day.

Too young, hate seeing it.
Always liked Fassel the guy (or what glimpses we got of that). As a coach, no doubt he had ups and downs, but ultimately 3 playoff appearances, a super bowl appearance, and a coach of the year...it was a successful run. You could tell and he's said as much that he loves/loved his time with the Giants and it was the pinnacle of his career.
His playoff guarantee will always be an all time great Giants coach press conference.

I literally joined up at the old boards a week before as I finally got online .. What a feeling that was after the game I joined the super old boards the day after we lost to the Ravens. I gave myself the repeatchamps handle thinking in 2001-02 we'd make it right back to the Super Bowl. Not to be lol.
