God I lived through that mess. No wonder I was afraid to open this thread once I seen the date as the title.
I didn't realize what a mess it truly was and I knew it was a completely crap football team. Mara caused that whole mess with Tarkenton imo. This losing crap went on for another decade after 8 years of not winning had already taken place.
Though we trade Fran back to Minny and get their #1 pick and draft brad Van Pelt that's why Van Pelt wore #10 at LBer. You think Mara was bitter ?
You gotta be strong to be a NY Giant fan.

And like I said on another thread we shared jag qbs like VD with the Falcons and Steelers it seemed back then I guess we traded Shiner to Atlanta after this

From the mid 60s till the end of the 70s we were as bad a professional sports team as there was. So bad that the commissioner famously got involved in the hiring of the GM.
The success of the 80s really changed the perception of Wellington Mara for fans who, like me, started watching in 64. They had one year, I think ‘70, where Tarkenton had them in position, on the last day of the season, in a win and get in scenario.
(edit - I just checked. They started that season 0-3, won 9 out of 10 and were coming home to play the Rams.)
It was a home game so it wasn’t on TV. They lost 31-3.
It was brutal being a Giant fan those 17 years. Especially since they were my first 17 years of rooting for them. Maybe that’s why guys my age (64) or older are more patient than most on these boards.
