Really? An NFL football player in full pads attacking some guy who was running around on a football field.
I remember when that happened and my first thought is that he could have killed that guy. Does that seem a suitable punishment for waht is nothing more than trespassing in order to get on TV?
In my world that was cowardice, and nothing less than assault. But you guys can believe what you want.
BS … the guy’s lucky that’s all that happened to him. How are these players supposed to know who is running out there to do them harm and who is a harmless fool? **** these morons. Absolutely.

Some drunken guy running out on the field? Really? By that logic anyone can assault anyone for almost any reason.
I'm sorry but the price for being a dope who runs out on the field shouldn't be hospitalization.
I think these people are morons but best to just laugh at them and let security do their jobs. Who appointed Mike Curtis to law enforcement?
I still think it was a chicken shit move by a guy who was always short of a full deck himself.
Next time you buy a ticket to a Professional sporting event you might want to read the back of it .Paid admission doesn't give you the right to interfere ,disrupt or harm any of the athletes. I completely understand that. It should get you kicked out of the game and possibly banned from future games.
But it's benign behavior. It doesn't give an NFL LB'r license to try to kill you.
A little perspective here.

I’m sure Monica Seles wishes someone took that same approach to that sick fan who stabbed her. Once you’re on the field of play, everything is fair game. Really? A man charging a defenseless female tennis player with a knife and some dope running out on the field among 250 to 300 lb. football players in full pads?
Yes...It's the exact same thing.
I promise you, no one on that field ever felt threatened in any way.
Mike Curtis was just a jacked up asshole who thought he'd look tough by taking out a moronic fan, half his size....while he was in full pads, knowing the guy couldn't defend himself.
That's "bad ass"? Really?
In my world, that's called being a pussy.

A fan might believe it's benign behavior MS but they simply have zero business stepping foot anywhere near the field/court/rink/course, etc.
Of course this recent incident comes with a totally different set of circumstances, but she clearly thought her actions were benign and yet they were pretty devastating to some.

Again. Bikers all bunched up are in a hyper vulnerable position.
Not the case with NFL players, in full pads on a field.

You’re right. Mike Curtis should have politely asked the moron to please stop, and head back the way he came in. Right before he asks for an autograph from Curtis and Bubba Smith. You act like Curtis went into the stands and punched that guys mom in the mouth. As far as I’m concerned, he’s lucky he just got embarrassed instead of hurt. You’re giving mankind too much credit. They’re idiots at times..

You're right, given Mike Curtis' violent tendencies, he's luck he wasn't hurt badly or killed.
What he should have done is laughed at stupid behavior and let stadium security take care of it.

He’s named “mad dog” for good reason. Watch the video, the guy was laughing after the hit. He was probably on so much LSD that he thought he was playing for the Dolphins. Killed? He got hit by a football player, not a truck..

..........and you know this how? Again the safety of the athletes is the main thing here. Are you trying to be funny?
Do you think one player on either team felt threatened by this bozo? Really?

You’re talking about that one incident while my OP was speaking in general. Should there be a limit to the use of force when a fan enters the playing field? I really don’t care what happens to the person.

Running out on the field to try to get on TV may be irritating, but it's pretty much a victimless crime. Hardly justifies acts of violence being used against them.
Now the woman at the Tour De France was endangering a lot of people. That is hardly a victimless crime. She should be prosecuted in whatever way those softies in France see fit.

What I saw was #21 running with the ball and Curtis tackle him forcing a fumble.
Looked like a nice hit to me.
Likewise, I'd have no problem if MLB players mistook a fan that ran onto the field as a baseball.
Years ago at Yankee Stadium Jimmy Pearsall was playing centerfield for the Cleveland Indians when 2 fans ran out into Center. Piersall was fighting the both of them and their 2nd baseman Johnnie Temple came out and started to punch one while Pearsall beat the crap out of the other. They showed it on TV. Both Pearsall and Temple were hot heads that were in fist fights with players and thrown out of games from umps. But no fans ran onto the field anymore when Pearsall came to town. He finnished his career with the Mets and of course was a fan favoritel. Curtis was the same type player. What does anyone think Ray Nitzschke or Dick Butkis would have done. May I include our own Sam Huff. This was what happened back then.

And can I ask you, Do you believe the most important thing is preventing fans from coming on the field? I mean if they shot one dead that would do the trick......Right?

Oh yes Jimmy Pearsall had some tough times to go through. It's the reason the Red Sox traded him. I was in jr high when that fight took place and I thought of it right away. As I writing about it I remembered it like it just happened. Must have been a lasting impression. No not shooting them but there are incidents when fans come out to harm players. Usually there just drunk and stupid. Players not always take the time to figure out which. I don't really blame them. But as TC said ask Monica Seles if someone should have shot the fan that stabbed her at Wimbledon.

if a drunken fool is running on the field, how is security supposed to stop him, short of a tackle? That still may look bad, but shit happens when you get tackled at at full run. As others have said, they could have shot him, or maybe security should all be trained with a lasso, and simply hog tie the idiots like that.

Keep moving the goal posts . Yes these idiots deserve what they get and more. Again Monica Seles what do you say to her? You are comparing a guy charging a vulnerable tennis player with a knife to some dope running around a football field amid 300 pound football players in full pads.
Seems a silly comparison.
