gmenhq.com/2021/07/29/ny-giants-sign-alfred-morris/Alfred Morris, 32, returns to the NY Giants after he spent time with the team late last season and played meaningful snaps The NY Giants plan to sign veteran running back Alfred Morris for a return stint after he spent last season with the team, according to a report from NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero. Morris, 32, was signed by the Giants last season in the wake of Saquon Barkley and Devonta Freeman suffering injuries, and while he rushed for 238 yards and a touchdown, he averaged just 4.3 yards per carry. Given that Barkley is expected to return from a torn ACL, and the NY Giants signed Devontae Booker on the first day of free agency this spring, Morris’ signing could make an uphill climb for sixth-round pick Gary Brightwell to make the roster even steeper.

Probably says more about what is behind Booker TBH
Not really that enthusiastic about a back with square wheels that is kinda useless between the 10's on regular early downs

They say "just" 4.3 yards per carry. Barkley is a career 4.7. Morris did better than I remembered.
Maybe it means Brightwell hasn't impressed. Maybe not.

I don't think Brightwell was ever in the picture at rb. When I heard Judge talk about Brightwell it was always ST ability. IIRC it was the ST coach that found him and told Judge about him. Even the interview with his college coach basically talked about ST skills. I think the board is the only place I heard being talked about as a runner. I don't know what it is based off of. There isn't much footage or info out there unless you watched all his college games.

I don’t think signing Morris means anything for Brightwell. There hasn’t been any contact in practice yet.

Alfred Morris actually did a really solid job for a guy who is way past his prime

Exactly, just 4.3 yards per carry behind that lackluster line last year is very good. On 55 carries. Let’s pump the brakes and put it in perspective. This should mean nothing in regards to Brightwell. He’s a rookie, who deserves to at least show what he can do on the field before we toss him in the garbage.

I thought Morris brought a different element to the offense when he was out there. Big bruiser that could set the tone. The guy has always had excellent vision to find holes, reminds me of Frank Gore in his later stages.

I would rather have Alfred Morris who has shown he is a decent back than to count on a rookie.

I would rather have Alfred Morris who has shown he is a decent back than to count on a rookie. We know what we have with Morris. No one, not even Judge knows what he can bring to the team. Let’s not make it out like Morris is going to be Fire to Barkley’s and Bookers Earth and Wind.

Should have been clear about that one.

Yeah, people can stick their noses up at the signing but the facts are he did as good as you could ask. He ran hard, ran guys over and actually showed that he still has some nice speed for an old timer 😁

This is the type of move to not be mad about or be enamored with. He is basically trying out for the RB 3 position on the roster.

Would so much rather see Corey Clement see reps over Morris. Hopefully he's just a camp body.

Just filling Barkley's roster spot since he's on the PUP w/another back to share the load.
With Barkley coming back from injury, and Booker's injury history they know that there is a good chance that RB3 gets a fair amount of work this year. Morris just gives them a baseline competency at that spot if no one shows better during camp.
