Releasing a new rule changes video while highlighting the taunting and the lowering of the helmet rules in each rule book for the officials in 2021.
It's worth noting that neither the rules nor the penalties for taunting and lowering of the helmet have been changed. The only change is the expectation that the officials will actually be doing their jobs this year when it comes to these two infractions. The NFL did not identify which rules the officials will select to ignore instead.
As usual we should expect an abundance of calls in the preseason to make those games even more difficult to watch, while seeing them taper off as the regular season progresses and then to be completely ignored in the playoffs to ensure Tom Brady gets another ring.

I can't handle looking at Chris Carter after the anti-giants Haskins rant. I refuse to give him any credibility.

Taunting penalties are ridiculous. Now, after a hard tackle you better apologize and give him your insurance information. If not, penalty on the guy who wasn’t even in on the play.

Not football, but related to this topic, have you seen Mike Greenbergs comments on homerun celebrations? He said baseball should encourage them because it'll give the sport personality and kids will emulate it. I think the same should apply here. Each teams sack leader should have a custom celebration. Don't like it? Stop him. Likewise anyone that scores should have one as well.
How many people instantly recognize the salsa dance from Cruz or the Ray Lewis celebration. I don't need these "league approved" long choreographed celebrations, just make it fun and natural. On that note I like Odenihgbo's celebration, hope to see it 10-12 times this year lol.

They should have blue flags in the preseason. That would have been a penalty in the regular season but we will let it go because who cares.

celebrations is not taunting though.. It depends on the celebration. I have absolutely seen players get flags for celebrating the "wrong way" after a sack or TD. We can't make the other people feel bad, I think that's the underlying rule.

Baseball is so traditional, that it’s stuck in the stone ages. Players back in the day, ran with their head down after a home run. It was a sign of respect, and if you showed up the pitcher. The next time you’re up to bat, you’ll get a fastball at your ear. I’m all for celebrating, and I’m not against a little smack talk too. This league was built on that, now they deem that unsportsmanlike conduct. The league is doing their darnedest to take the excitement out of the league. No Fun League..

There is a form of offensive holding on every play. Running backs Inherently lead with their head . There is offensive and defensive PI that can be called on every other play. We see it every week during the season.

The game is over officiated with rules.

Let's get real. The refs rarely call a fair game anymore. There's no balance to these rules. We see the same teams screwed (or assisted)in key moments nearly every season.
I think the answer is less rules. The risk to playing football is well known, and it's a serious one. And it's not just dangerous for the head; it's the entire body that is at risk for serious long term injury. There's no way to make football a safe sport and we should really stop pretending the league truly cares. Both football fans and players alike love(d) the sport for it's intensity.
We should absolutely continue to teach proper (heads up) tackling..BUT the league shouldn't have the ability to sway games with biased (or bad) calls. Or non-calls.
Just let the players go out and compete.
It's very hard to have perfect form when you're going full speed at certain velocities and angles, when players are also going full speed at you.

We can't make the other people feel bad, I think that's the underlying rule. Like this............................... I can appreciate being old school and celebrating first downs drive me nuts but these choreographed celebrations are way worse IMO than the spontaneous "in your face Tom Brady" ones. It's not like LT wasn't talking shit to the QBs he was sacking back in the day.
Funny story about the peeing thing. My brother used to coach soccer 25 years ago. He was coaching this one kid that was just better than all the other kids. Well he decided to celebrate one game by "peeing" on the goal post just like ODB did. Kid got a yellow card, my brother argued the call and got ejected lmao. I about died laughing when a pro athlete did the same thing.

I’m weird when it comes to preconceived celebration. Particularly when you are down by 35 points and the guy that just scored starts a dance-a-thon.

Nah when you are getting your ass kicked as a team and some idiot does this is where I draw the line I remember a Cowboys Game where Deon took an irrelevant punt back house down 28 under 3 minutes to go and he just flipped the ball on the ground...even he knew .

It brings to mind the saying, "a time and a place". All of us appreciate passionate, spontaneous celebrations that propel the TEAM to victory. It can even be an inch gained on 4th down when it means NYG keeps the ball and can then runout the clock. Like Peppers said when he was Mic'd up-- the "kneel down" is his favorite play.

So does Barkley get flagged if he throws up the deuces like he did against Philly? The no fun league strikes again.

According to the rules, if that gesture makes the Eagle players feel bad than I guess yes.
