What are you guys thinking about how he was? I only saw a couple years of his play. From what I remember our OL looked really good when he was out there. But was often injured

What are you guys thinking about how he was? He was extremely prone to penalty. And the bitch of it was he would get called for holding or false start, then do same thing 2 downs later. And then he would come back and do it AGAIN in the next series. And so on and so on….almost every game.

He had some good ability, but the false start penalties became ridiculous. Back problems too and then broke the leg.

That Seattle game in 2005 where we had 11 false starts .......5 or 6 by Luke ....and then Feely missed 3 easy FGs and we lost in OT .......never forget Pettigout for that one

I remember against Seattle in Eli's first full season. He had his best outing . 5 false starts. How is that even possible?

As others have said…his penalties were an issue. That being said…he’d look like an all-star on this team compared to the Giants recent left tackle play.

Remember him? I’m trying to forget him. As everyone has said, Luke “false start” Petitgout was a penalty machine. When the referees worked a Giants game in Luke’s day, they were in for a busy afternoon. He would get called for a false start at the National anthem. Petitgout also did a little time for harassing his ex wife. She probably got sick and tired of how long it took to take family pictures. Luke could never sit still..

Heck Yes, On this OL don't think he beats Andrews at LT he certainly could start at either Guard or RT. 5 yd Penalties we can overcome even a couple times a game. 60 offensive plays - 2 penalties. I remember him being able to block.

I remeber him well started off at tackle went to Guard might have gone back to tackle, early on he was a holding machine then it was false starts had trouble with speed big time. One match I will never forget he went against Javon Kearse and did everything under the sun to stop him, face masks, just flat out holds I remember it because the play by play guy was going nuts and so was Kearse no penalty's were called lol.

He was a good blocker, but the constant false starts and holds weren't worth it. Diehl was an upgrade at the time. More physical, resilient and smarter. Cheaper too. I remember the sports media acted like the team was doomed when the giants lost him to the Jets in FA before the 07 season.
Is the media ever accurate about anything lol??

Actually Diehl was kinda a lateral move as far as ability but just the reduction in penalties per game was the improvement I think Pettigout led tbe league in penalties every year and I think 2 years set records...

Exactly, it was such a huge positive for the offense to be rid of those game changing, drive killing penalties. That Seattle game was something else, giants should've won that day but didn't Here's a good highlight video from that game....

Absolutely! I remember Luke at ND as well him and another former NY Giant Mike Rosenthal, was a very good Left and Right Tackles Duo at ND
Bad Back, Broken Leg, False Starts...just never developed into the Franchise Left Tackle that Ernie Accorsi hoped he would be when he drafted him

When he turned FA, I remember Accorsi saying he made it a priority to resign him, but Rosenthal refused to even listen to any offers from the Giants and left for Minnesota without a word. No, I don't have a link.

Wow I guess that was a good while ago I don't even remember all the penalties LOL. Maybe it was during a time when I was actually probably on active duty or just getting out of active duty and didn't really catch a whole lot of football games like that.

What are you guys thinking about how he was? why didn’t the Giants draft Aaron Gibson?!!!!!!! . . . well, turns out Gibson wasn’t really that good. Luke was a strong fella, back spasms and what appeared to be some heavy feet. Nice yet a full grade below a Pro-Bowler. Had some obvious off field issues.
