Zedeno Chara returning to the Islanders after 20 years
Twenty years later, Zdeno Chara is returning to the Island. The legendary defenseman has signed a one-year deal with the Islanders, the team announced, bringing in the future Hall of Famer after trading defenseman Nick Leddy earlier in the offseason. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Chara turning 45 this year just seems too old. With that said I think I like it. A physical mismatch at 6'9" and that long reach. He is apparently going to be paired with Mayfield as the 3rd D line. He played 54 or 55 games last year.
I just don't know if he holds up for the long season plus the playoffs. But I think he played for Trots in Washington. So if Trots thinks he can help I'm welcoming him with open arms.

Well the season starts tomorrow and I'm ready. I just hope with our captain back we can increase our scoring this year. We really need 2 lines that we can count on consistently.
Our defense and goaltending hopefully are as strong and tough as last year.
Now lets go get that Stanley Cup.

Got outplayed opening game. Carolina was the better team. Islander defense was not as tough as usual. They're play was lackluster. It will be better that's Trots signature on his teams.
Good to get season under way.
FYI - Anders Lee played and that was good to see. He scored a goal on a rebound. Does that sound familiar ?

Isles on a nice little streak right now 3-0-1 after dropping the first 2. 2 consecutive shut outs for Sorokin. We knew Trots would get his defense and goal tending straitened out. Thats his signature.
Still need more offense imo but I'm just happy to see them winning. I love when this team starts rolling and puts together these streaks.

Nice win against the "24 time Stanley Cup Champions" Montreal Canadiens tonight. 6-2 final score.
Keep those Habs three championships behind the "27 time World Champions" New York Yankees... God's REAL team!!

Sorokin has another shutout!!
5-2-2 in the first nine games (all on the ROAD!!)
If they can go 3-1 before the very first game in the new arena, they would be in GREAT shape!!!

With the Isles losing to Tampa today (T.B. 2 consecutive Stanley Cup Champions) is nothing shameful. But it's just another game where the Isles can't score. I've said this thru the whole off season that they need a big time scorer desperately.
There is nobody on the Isles that can consistently put the puck in the net.

Seeing that's my team last game and a late playoff rematch something to consider on Tampa 1.they are playing without Kuch again in the regular season while trying to litterally replace their entire grinder/3rd line on the fly. 2. They have seemingly been playing playoff style hockey physically and intensity wise lately, that game as well as the previous 2 vs Carolina and Florida felt like playoff games .. 3.Playoff level Kilorn is playing so far, usually he doesn't score as much in the regular season as he does in the playoffs. They probably don't finish with a top record but they make the tournament and are a legit threat for a three peat

Not a great start to the season.
Awful record and now in covid suspension. Next 2 games cancelled as Cizikas becomes the 8th Isles player to test positive.

This season is a mess. First 13 games on the road, longest road trip in hockey history waiting for new arena. And yet I thought the Isles did well playing around .500 hockey thru the trip.
Now covid has ripped through this team devastating them like they didn't have enough problems with hockey they were playing.
Beside the long road trip and the covid virus and the defense playing their worse hockey in 3 years the #1 problem is they can't put the puck in the net. There is no one that can score.
I said this was the major need after last season. I talked about it the entire off season anytime anyone mentioned the word "hockey".
Apparently couldn't trade for anyone, I hope they at least tried. The Isles are one of the oldest hockey teams in the league this is their window and they're blowing it.
Trots teams are always competitive and focus from the goal and defense on out. The Isles can't score they must make a move and I mean do it now. Lee must be hurt again, I haven't seen him. Barzel is a non factor, there is no one else.
I know the goal tending and defense must improve but the non scoring is the main thing that is making this team a loser.

Like the NFL you need a team to be able to win any style of game and consistently. Look across the river ..Rangers added meat and potatoes to a young team with scorers..while I think they are a year or 2 away from being a threat they are on their way Toronto just added some beef and now can play any style You found out what Tampa can do,teams want to play grind it out they will gladly play the left wing lock style that Detroit won a bunch of cups with (not coincidence Yzerman built the Lightning and also created a lot of depth in the minors).. I don't know what you guys have in your farm system but you might have to resort to gutting it to bring in a scorer and go for broke this year

There are a lot of real good teams in this NHL. Trots is too old to blow it up and start new. Reminds me of Pete Carroll with Seattle in that way. They if they start over a young coach is the first move.

Islanders finally starting to feel at home at UBS Arena It wasn’t the first rendition this year. But it was the loudest and longest. And the chorus of 17,255 reflected a feeling inside the building during the Islanders’ 3-2 win Thursday over the Devils, that the new barn is finally starting to feel like home. It took three weeks after the Nov. 20 opening for the Islanders to record a win at home, a stretch in which they suffered an 11-game losing streak and a COVID-19 outbreak. Bailey, for much of it, was stuck in Florida after testing positive for the coronavirus. When they should have been getting used to a new routine, a new locker room and a new ice surface, all of the Islanders’ routines were upended. nypost.com/2022/01/14/islanders-finally-starting-to-feel-at-home-at-ubs-arena/

Islanders legend Clark Gillies dies at age 67 NHL Hall of Famer and Islanders legend Clark Gillies died aged 67 Friday night, the team announced. There was no immediate cause given. Gillies played 12 seasons for the Islanders between the 1974-75 and 1985-86 seasons, and was a key part of the team’s dynasty that won four-straight Stanley Cups from 1980-83. He played 872 games with the Islanders (fifth all-time in franchise history), scoring 304 goals (fourth all-time in franchise history), recording 359 assists (fifth all-time in franchise history) and 663 points (fourth all-time in franchise history). “The entire Islanders community is devastated by the loss of Clark Gillies,” Islanders President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello said in a statement. “He epitomized what it means to be a New York Islander. The pride he felt wearing the Islanders sweater on the ice was evident by his willingness to do anything to win. Off the ice, he was just as big of a presence, always taking the time to give back to the local community. nypost.com/2022/01/21/islanders-legend-clark-gillies-dies-at-age-67/

I was saying the entire off season we needed to get a scorer. This team can't score consistently. But our defense and goal tending have taken a step back this year as well.
The entire team cannot play consistent winning hockey. This team was a top 5 team in this league the last 2 years. This year they're not going to make the playoffs. I not only am upset at the players and coaching they need to be addressed severly. But more than them the front office the team President and their GM for not getting the scoring they so obviously needed to put them over the top.
This whole organization should be embarrassed this year. Lou Lemengello had his head up his ass going into this season. Can't even blame it on injury.

Islanders legend Mike Bossy dead at 65 Islanders legend Mike Bossy, whose scoring touch helped drive the franchise to four straight championships, died Friday after a battle with terminal lung cancer. He was 65. Bossy’s diagnosis became public last October, when he stepped away from his job as an NHL analyst for the French language network TVA Sports to deal with his health. nypost.com/2022/04/15/mike-bossy-islanders-legend-dead-at-65/

Mike Bossy was and will always be one of my all-time favorite Islanders. He was as great a goal scorer as ever came down the pike. And he became an all around player even killing penalties.
I forget which but 8 or 9 consecutive years of scoring 50 goals or more. I believe 3 times scoring over 60 in a season.
RIP Mike God Bless you. Every Islander fan that had the pleasure of watching you play has missed you since the day you retired. The ones that have met you and knew you as a person will miss you even more.

How do you fire Barry Trotz right now.... wtf... Back as the cellar dwellers. Absolutely ! Trots takes them to the final 4 each of the last 2 years. This year was a shit show right from the beginning. The first 14 games or whatever it was on the road. Lemongello (however you pronounce his name) did not get him the scorer we so desperately needed in the off season. Lee started the season still hurt plus a rash of injuries the first half of the season. He fires his coaches every other year. He's fired coaches in mid season. Why doesn't Trots have a job already ? There's 17-18 teams that should be giving him a call right now, 5 minutes after that idiot Lemengello fired him. Who would come here to coach ? Your going to be fired. I guess they're going to blow up the team and want a young coach. I think we were the oldest team last year. Oh and by the way we still need that big scorer. What a crap move. Your right Big A we probably go back to being a 2nd class team.

Well tonight was the 1st day of the NHL draft. The Isles picked 13th. They traded with Montreal they gave them the 13th pick for D Alexander Romanov and a 4th rd pick. The 98th pick.
Does anyone know Romanov he better be one hell of a Defensemen. Damn we needed a scorer sooo bad. After last season we needed defense as well, the back line is definitely showing age.
Hell do we have a Head Coach yet ? We turned a team on the verge of winning the cup into a complete question mark. And that's the best scenario imo.
Not happy with this move for our 1st rd pick.

No idea who he is but I'm sure it will send the team back into the abyss. Actually looks like he was the assistant coach the past couple of seasosns. Might as well bring back the awful fisherman jerseys.
