sports.yahoo.com/giants-may-move-matt-peart-125557037.htmlThe New York Giants lost their most versatile offensive lineman, Nick Gates, in last Thursday’s loss to the Washington Football Team. Gates went down with a fractured leg in the first half and was spelled by Ben Bredeson.
Gates is done for the year and the Giants are now scrambling for depth on the interior of their line. Shane Lemieux, their starting left guard, is currently on injured reserve with a knee injury and is not eligible to return for another two weeks.
The Giants are searching for solutions and some of those solutions could be in-house. Matt Peart, originally the team’s starting right tackle, is now swerving as a swing lineman after losing his starting role in training camp to veteran Nate Solder.
Head coach Joe Judge told reporters on Monday that Peart could be shifted inside, a suggestion we made on Giants Wire recently.
Peart did not play in Thursday’s game and Judge was asked what the plan was for him going forward.
“We’re going to rotate Matt on through the tackle position,” Judge said. “We’ll kind of take a look at him maybe playing some stuff inside as we get going right here. We’ll kind of work around through practice these next few days and kind of see where things shake out.
“Matt’s been making big gains for us and doing a good job. I think Andrew (Thomas) and Nate are doing a good right there playing tackle for us.”
The Giants host the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday. We’ll see where Peart stands then. This entire artical is clouded with ambiguity. Judge says 2 different things as pertains to Peart. IMO: One of the reasons depth should be built before camp cough cough "draft" not after. By doing what was done, assumptions are made in a hasty fashion. Now 2 of our started have been injured . It is pull a rabbit out of a hat construct to find depth and the rabbit just ran away. We are literally one o-line injury away from disaster.

Ya know I thought of that but I didn't know if it was realistic. It wouldn't be the first time a failed Tackle made a decent Guard. Erik Flowers anyone ?

I do think it is done because him being failed OT. Those guys on that PS suck. Probably the least sucky of the suckwads available But they still suck. They proved their worth in camp. To me the HC is probing for a solution when the next injury occurs.

While I'm disappointed Peart didn't beat Solder out in camp, it's tough to call a 3rd round pick that was always going to be developmental, only in his 2nd year, a failed tackle.
DG and Judge thinking we didn't need to reinforce the line doesn't make Peart a failure, it makes him a victim of circumstance since he may just not be ready.
He could also totally fail...he's a third round pick.

I have a feeling Peart plays best on the left. I would like to see him inside because he is lousy in space. Kinda clumsy sometimes over extending himself when he doesn't make the initial punch and contact

Physically, he is perfectly built for Tackle. Tall, long, long arms, etc. That's what the Giants have said.
I'm fine with getting him involved any way possible, but I don't know he'll work out at Guard.

Might as well if he’s not starting T. That being said…Flowers was built to play guard…Peart…not so much. He’s a tackle. But who knows…let him learn.

It's worth a try in practice, especially given the long week and a half until the next game.
Very physically suited for t, not so much for g.

I think it has most to do with the injury situation. He may very well have to play guard, simply because he's healthy. It's prudent to get him some work there in advance.

Heard them talking about this on Talking Giants podcast. This would be disappointing. Another 3rd round pick/project not working out? Besides BJ Hill, we have to go back to 2008 until we find another 3rd rounder who made an impact (Manningham).
The host of Talking Giants also believes Lemieux is done for the year based on the injury and things he's hearing. Not sure how reliable he is as a source, but that'd be another blow to the presumed weakest unit on the team.

If he can contribute more at Guard then move him inside

I’m shocked, I was all but guaranteed he would be our starting RT this year with the proper off season and coaching. I wonder what happened other than people over estimating this roster as usual.

Daily reminder that Gettleman said he was perfectly confident in Peart and at some point you need to let the young guys play. Thats why they didn't upgrade the tackle position. Bold move, Dave.

I do not think we have a tackle problem. The 3 we have can play in the NFL . Not all great but all 3 can be put on the field and our Jaws are not going to hit the floor and remain there. Our OGs are in hazard mode . Will has been good at RG. We got lucky with Bredeson. After that we got no one. I see why Judge has to try Peart at OG. He is going to be known as our swing o-lineman . That is the way I see it.

Dave Gettleman masterpiece. Hey, cheer up. We’re in the top five of most negative fan bases in the known universe. Even the Uranus sphincters aren’t as negative as us. And they’re assholes.. So, let’s turn that frown upside down and get behind our GM.. And push him onto oncoming traffic.. When a player has to be moved, it’s not because they want to utilize his strength and ability. It’s because, they’re exhausting all options on what to do with him. Next week, we’ll see how he runs when he takes some reps at fullback.

Hard to build depth when two vets your brought in randomly retire, and then two starters go down with big time injuries.
I think Peart would do well at OG though. Similar to Thomas when Peart gets his hands on something he does a great job. His issue is getting his hands on them when playing OT. At OG it could be different. We shall see. I like Peart though, hope he keeps making strides and improving. Hernandez hasn't looked good.

Dave Gettleman masterpiece. GM drafts OL......complain about the 3rd round OL pick. GM doesn't draft OL.....complain about the lack of a 3rd round OL pick.
Too bad we don't have Mekhi Becton and Zach Wilson to cheer you up....those were you picks over Thomas and Jones right?

Week 3 and how quickly things come full circle after a full offseason of fluff. How we wish the Gettleman cheerleaders were correct and we were wrong. Smh. Hope for the best b/c it’s 12 months before next Sept. What else can we do?

I get that. But they cut all but the starters. IDK it should have been resolved during camp.. Not after. Now we are a situation off desperation.

This has absolutely nothing to do with not drafting anyone this past draft How many teams draft enough depth to withstand losing 2 starters in 2 weeks (Lemieux actually hurt in preseason) It's a depth move

line up the modern day excuses as if the starting five had solidified themselves last season. Com’on, the team needed linemen and still does. We are desperate for OL for sure. That’s why I don’t mind trying anything at this point. Including getting Peart inside reps. Yeah, what else can they do? Try any body in a gap to see if it works. For a GM who touts on thing (hog mollies) and does another, when does it end? Can't predict injuries so play roulette in hopes an OL which has been an issue for a decade figures itself out? Com'on, the roster has 10 linebackers yet had to trade for and sign OL FA days before opening day kickoff? That is completely irresponsible imo.
