Notice WE had none of THIS last year and NOW with McKinney playing ITS been the soft ZONE. Graham is TRYING to mask McKinney’s weakness and CHANGED up the entire D for him. YOU all clamored for him because of an Andy Dalton INT but NOW he has the entire D playing SOFT. Love is a natural centerfielder. I know we played much more 1 high with him back there. Not sure what's going on now tbh. Maybe Graham is putting too much emphasis on gameplanning for the opposing receiving group. I don't blame him.

Think of the secondary like a battle. The element of surprise. Show blitz then back into zone. Show press then blitz. Show zone then stay in zone. A blend of strategy keeping the offense guessing. So far its been terrible and this 'softzone" is creating a huge whole in the middle of the field. The black hole! Where is Kruunch when you need him.

Has nothing to do with McKinney. Would you mind telling us what it has to do with? The fact that we can't get after QBs.

Need to fix that Pass Rush...once they do that the Coverage won't look as bad
We really need Lorenzo Carter, Azeez Ojulari, Oshane Ximines to step up and hopefully they activate Quincy Roche and Cam Brown maybe they can provide a SPARK

The DEFENSE was different without McKinney LAST year. We played WELL now because of 1 Dalton INT that you PEOPLE spent all year raving about, we CHANGE our whole D and take a huge step BACK. Go BACK to the bench McKinney. I don't see how they'd center it around McKinney though.....

It has nothing to do with the Safety . The soft zone works only if the D-line and edge containment can handle the run. It is designed to allow the ILBs to concentrate on coverage . Fill the intermediate and deep zones. No need to press at the line if the field is blanket covered.
It has not worked because we are soft up the gut . Forcing the ILB also help contain the run. It causes a problem for the soft zone . The ILBs have to take a second after the snap to read or pass or run . Having to use that one second to determine what they have to do instead of concentrating on zone coverage is the difference in guys running free and not
When it was pure passing downs ..... down and long. Washington's QB had nowhere to go with the ball because the ILBs could concentrate on their zone assignments and the blanket coverage was effective. We got off the field.
That is what I have been seeing.

So he is covering for McKinney by playing McKinney? If he wanted to cover for him wouldn't he just play Peppers?
We didn't look great early on last year either. We gave up 26 PPG for the first five games last year, then only hit that total two more times all year. Graham will adjust as he learns what he has and figures out how to fix them and put them in the right position.

It's pretty simple really. They have no pass rush at all. Somehow even less than last year.
Teams looked at the film from last year and realized that there is no reason to rush getting the ball out.
Teams nowadays try to get the ball out quickly. The giants took advantage of that habit last year.
This year, teams know, just hold the ball until someone gets open. Teams are taking their time to stretch the field until the coverage breaks down.

We either risk the open man with blitzing, or sit back and let the opposing quarterback pick us apart. Pick your poison.

Losing because they are too passive is simply hard to watch.

I wasn't able to catch the last game, are they blitzing from the Safety position at all? This was my hope, once they acquired another (assumedly) capable corner.
