It was a good interview, they did press him to see how much authority he has in the organization and if he's able to make personnel decisions which was important.
There's also a possibility that a HC gets announced on Saturday based on what Joe Schoen said.

If the hire is going on this weekend, which I find odd. It means it’s a two man race with Daboll and Frazier.

I like Joe. Down to earth in the sense he seems like a real guy, but the job also doesn't seem to big for him.

One guy there whose football IQ = the sum of the other two.
That makes it a fair fight.

I like how he was willing to do this... Did Reese or Dave ever do this? DOesn't matter either way, but I can't really seem to recal our GMs ever sitting down to talk about the giants on a tv show. Pretty cool he was willing to makes me think he's a down to earth kind of guy and I find the best leaders are usually the ones who are smart and down to earth.
Good first impressions, now lets start winning some football around here!

Excapt it’s not JM’s call. It’s Schoen’s call.

Excapt it’s not JM’s call. It’s Schoen’s call. Schoen said in his press conference that the HC decision will be collaborative decision. On T & T echoed the same thing but conceded that owners own the team and it would suck if he didnt get his first choice. Im super surprised by all the positivity after the press conference. He basically said the same things DG said all the way down to "Im not big on tearing it down and rebuilding. I believe you can build a competitive roster today while building for tomorrow." He also doesnt plan to make any major office/scouting personnel moves giving everyone a chance to prove themselves. I thought for sure the fanbase would be in an uproar. Fortunately, the media creates the narrative and everyone else piggy backs off that. IMO, this presser was a combination of Joe Judge mixed in with some DG. pretty vanilla.

I’ve had enough giants hires impress me with great sound bites, so I’m still in “I gotta see it” mode.
But.
His message is completely different than Reese or DG. He said process 50 times. DG made generic comments about culture and the type of team he wanted to build. JS is talking about getting the entire franchise on the same page with the same vision.
He’s extending a much needed olive branch to the current FO staff to work with his process. If you’ve ever gone from a crap boss to a great boss you know what a positive impact that can have on your quality of work.
Sounds like he has the autonomy right now. He’ll eventually suggest change John is uncomfortable with and he expects to be able to make the decision, or at least convince John it’s the right thing to do. That will be the test.
Oh. The players better have the traits and values this GM is looking for. He won’t be able to install the culture he wants if he has two standards for layers and FO staff. he basically said he’ll prioritize culture over talent. I wonder if a Toney type player is going to fit in with the new culture.
We may see some surprise cuts and trades.

I think he said they want talent but want to fill out the roster with smart player that follow and buy into the process. Then again there is so much ambiguity when you use words like our culture, right habits, etc. It really is defined by the person defining the process. "We’re going to have a concerted effort through free agency, draft or whatever it is to get the right types of guys in here that have the DNA, that have talent, that have character and that have the right habits. I think if you have enough of those guys that also have talent, you’re going to have a good football team." -Joe Schoen

It has probably drilled the point home for Schoen that if the culture is already on the team, new players who may not have demonstrated it before just get in line when everyone else on an organization is already pulling in one unified direction. .

Yeah, not gonna crap on the guy but his interview definitely betrayed the inner workings of the org and confirmed what we all feared, the Maras noses are in everything.

He strikes me as a football lifer who grew into every role he was given. Like many on this board have done for young go getters, he has been propped up and mentored everywhere he's been because of what they saw in him. He landed his dream job and he won't forget it.

The issue comes with when the decision has to be made. If they stay out of that process then thats what we all want. If I owned the the NYGs I would totally want to know what was going on every step of the way. My boss knows everything I am doing but allows me to make the decision for my department. Mara/Tisch can have oversight and still let Schoen make the finals.

Well Gettlehog WAS a successful part of both there NYG andf Panthers. He helped build dominant teams. Gettleman had there right vision, And I think his drafts with Judge were better than with Pat. My point being, I think they made a huge mistake hiring Shurmur. Mara liked him because he was everything Mac wasn't towards players and the media. It's just obvious that the owners will have a say. I never believed they wouldn't. Maybe they'll just check themselves before pushing for particular hires. Hopefully The important thing about Schoen is that his personality is very different from DG. He also seems to have more awareness of how to build a team these days
