I hope you’re right Aris, only if we take him , because I’m just not sold on this guy. I’m not saying he won’t be good at some point but almost all the scouting reports I read of him have a lot more cons than the other 3 tackles. Specifically his balance and technique. Admittedly, I haven’t watched a lot of tape, just going mostly off what I’ve read and you know I don’t place a lot of stock in the Senior Bowl especially since we’re drafted 3 out of the pst 4 MVP’s and they’ve all sucked. I know, I know…a lot of professional scouts do place a lot of value on the Senio bowl and I’m not a scout. Having said that, other than the Senior Bowl, his level of competition is very concerning and the fact that I believe he was tied for the most penalties at 16 against that level of competition is even more concerning. That’s like drafting a handsy CB in college and expecting him to have the same results in the NFL where he’ll get flagged for breathing on a guy too closely. I dunno man, I respect your opinion, agree with the majority of your posts and honestly lean towards your opinion about most players more than my own but this guy doesn’t “do it for me” and makes me a bit nervous. Again, if we draft him, I would love nothing more than to eat crow. If we don’t, let’s hope my instincts are right. Either way, it will be interesting to keep up with him (along with the other 3) wherever the land. Last chance to hop on the Penning wagon....I'm going way out there with this , but I see somebody that can be taught up ...his lack of bend, the anticipation that's there.... the package is there, ready to mold into a hall of fame player...or a solid right tackle that learns to use his assets, assets he has in abundance. We can agree to disagree...but I see things with this kid...special things that can be taught to the right mindset. He has it. What's your views on slaves?....cause I can sense we're heading there. Good, bad or indifferent?

I’ll let you continue to conduct this train, I know you’ve put yourself out there supporting him. Hopefully I can tell you “told ya so” unless he’s playing for the Giants next year. I’m always down to agree to disagree, we all have different opinions about some topics and I enjoy reading most of them even if I disagree. I actually almost didn’t say anything but know you’re a big boy and could handle a different viewpoint

Still scared to death of him as a top 10 pick if he is he will have a lot of work to do to get to dependable.

I said all spring this kid is nothing but a goon with no technique. Most penalized player in college football. Guy lines up and simply brawls with the defender on every play. Good luck playing that style in the NFL.

Good luck playing that style in the NFL. What the hell are you talking about? All I saw was a kid playing to the whistle. Something, these modern NFL defenders don’t like. Don’t like him pushing you around? Get his hands off you then. Rich Seubert is a war hero around here, for his legendary fights. Now, he would be considered a goon or a punk.

To go against the original post by Mike and his "told you so"....when he declares technique issues (what?) after not actually watching his film and befriending the twitter headlines If he does not get the after whistle crap corrected, he sits and ends up out of the NFL. Defenders will now be talking shit all game long to draw out that penalty.

Continue blocking till the whistle, no defender in this business will like it. They will push back, punch, etc. Don’t do a thing, and watch the flags fly. Unsportsmanlike conduct, 15 yards moving forward.

He needs to learn that playing LT is all about technique, it’s not a bar fight. Big gains called back on personal fouls will get real old real quick.

Once he gets it, he has enough athletic talent to be on par with the best in the NFL….small school vs OL at Notre Dame and they have more technical issues. Nobody is denying he is playing aggressively, but I’d rather dial back vs try and make a mean dog…some Guys on the OL will never play with that edge…and you can never turn it up. His teammates will love him when he’s going toe to toe with guys like Donald….

He’s starting tonight at LT vs Green Bay, despite being the back up rookie…injuries and he gets the nod. Should be interesting to watch how well he plays, and of course…how his reputation and aggressive nature impact the Saints drives.

Watching him on VPN right now...he's kicking ass with technique. He will be a pro bowl tackle in due time...I still stand by my evaluation of him So far, no hockey fights nor roughing calls

That's where that 1.71 split comes in...his technique was near flawless NFL coaching doing what it does best

The average HB is still 6’0-6’1 215lbs.

he just tore a ligament in his foot, out indefinitely. It's a shame, he was playing well, was going to start.

saintswire.usatoday.com/2023/10/03/trevor-penning-penalty-stats-saints-offensive-line-pressures-allowed/As Neal becomes our next 1st round bust (he is an absolute mess regarding everything blocking), Penning is finally healthy and while I watched his 1st game reps and was not impressed with his hand placement or punch, he was always trying mentally. Watched game 3 and VAST improvement. If he continues that development we can all wonder about Neals attitude and mental processing at developing his craft. I've never seen such a high pick tackle with as much athleticism and size be as bad as he is....he makes Flowers look solid.

Think he could be a + player if moved to RG?

Think he could be a + player if moved to RG? Balance and brains....from there he misguides his punch and guys just swat away and run by him. Our all pro Thomas like most rookie tackles have to adjust to the NFL speed rush and get burned by the inside swim. Thomas spent year 1 adjusting and bam. With Neal it's inside, outside and from having those feet not balanced easily prone to the embarrassing bull rush. IMHO of course. He also seems to fail to read well, and gets lost when his assigned block stunts away He's kind of tall for a guard, but he's turning into a colossus blunder as a pick.... thus they could try anything. Knowing the Giants we move him inside to guard, trade for Kyler Murray and watch 15 balls bounce off Neals head each game.
