www.si.com/nfl/cowboys/news/ezekiel-elliott-cut-dallas-cowboys-today-sign-new-team-report-contract-cap-tony-pollard-rumorThe Cowboys have made a big decision on Ezekiel Elliott, who was set to cost $16.7 million. The Dallas Cowboys have made one big decision at their running back room crossroads, with the decision to franchise tag Tony Pollard. And now comes the next one, with Ezekiel Elliott still set to cost $16.7 million but with an escape hatch available to cut him. ... and today, that is apparently the plan. Pollard is locked in now with $10 million for 2023. Zeke never was locked in, with Dallas saving $5 million if cut now and $11 million is designated as a post-June 1 release. (We believe Dallas prefers the latter idea.) We are told the Cowboys were always prepared to eat dead money on Zeke and bid him a full goodbye, but that could have depended on his willingness to accept a massive pay cut to remain at The Star. It appears he is unwilling to do that.

This shows the danger of giving a RB a huge contract. I hope we are smart with Barkley

With Zeke being a June 1st cut I'm not even sure Dallas has any dead cap money. With Pollard as Dallas #1 for the 10mil and a back up for half of that or less or a rookie contract it is a smart move. Zeke has gained 1,000 yds only once in the last 3 years.
I think Buffalo would be a good landing spot for Zeke. But Zeke is taking a big hit from what he was making. It could be incentive ridden.
