86' D was off the charts, and the offense was pretty good to boot.

1986 - linebackers committed to stopping the run win that game. Would be tough though b/c the 86 offense wasn’t exactly explosive.

86' D was off the charts, and the offense was pretty good to boot. Age wise we had guys much closer to their primes in 1986. Simms, Morris, Bavaro, Oates, Burt, Marshall, Banks, LT, Harry. I respected 1990 for sure but in the playoffs they had to grind the wins out.

We didn't have great WR in 1986 but we had a prime Bavaro and a prime Morris. Some people do not realize Joe was running for a 100 yards per game. That would be like Barkley having 1600-1700 yards last season.

The 86 Offense scored 23.2 points per game. The Defense gave up14.6 points per game. An 8.6 positive point deferential The 90 Offense scored 21 points per game. The Defense gave up 13.2 points per game. An 7.8 positive point deferential
The separation between both teams was 0.8 point deferential.

Bavaro may have been the difference as the Giants run defense even in 1990 would have been tough for Morris imo. Regardless, we got two Super Bowls and wish we could have defended it in 87 while 89 haunts us. Heck, in 1988 the 49ers wanted no part of the Giants and laid down vs the Rams. Was the Giants fault though. The bomb to Rice and Jet fiasco did cost them.

Everyone remembers their first.. That ‘86 team was thirty years in the making. With being part of the original eight we have seen more football than Wilson. After years of being left at the altar we finally got her to say yes. The Denver Broncos never stood a chance. After letting them hang around for a bit, we kicked it to high gear and turned them into glue. That was our year, no team, army, or the navy was stopping us from our goal.
The ‘90 team was as complete as any team we had. It was our last ride off in the sunset. Grizzled vets who had war wounds of a decade of battles were ready to start the decade in Giants fashion. Started the season on a ten game winning streak. Six of those victories were against our hated rivals. It wasn’t until the thanksgiving Turkey was digested that we finally tasted defeat. After losing Simms, Banks, and Hampton we limped right into the playoffs. We still had O.J.. But he was way past his expiration date. Jeff Hostetler was a career backup who saw limited action. Besides boasting one of the best defenses in the league, and a ground game that wore the turf out. We hibernated the Bears for good, and broke the wills and Montanas back in the NFC Championship game.
All that was left is the Buffalo stampede that came roaring into Tampa. With a war going on oversees. All eyes were on the battle of the Giants. Instead of heavy artillery and landmines. We had a game plan that Payton would be proud of. Annihilate any receiver who goes into our no fly zone. And ground and pound them to death. With a game that took years off of both fanbases. The game was in the hands of a kicker. With no time on the clock and the ball in the air the football gods blew the ball to the right. Missing the goalpost. The sidelines are burned into our memory. Another ring to our finger.. Both teams took us for a ride that we will never forget.

The 86 team was dominant and the best Giants team ever. The other three were in many ways more fun and harder on my heart!

66-3. That was the point differential for the 86 Giants in the NFC playoffs. 66-3. The most impressive playoff run in NFL history Imo. When you think of the teams, quarterbacks, and coaches they beat and in the convincing fashion they beat them. It’s the most impressive imo.

Different people like the different teams for different reasons. One is not better then the other.

I thought the same thing. The Giants offense down the stretch and in the playoffs put up a lot of points.

The Giants down the stretch of that season implemented a two tight end scheme that they threw out of a lot. It helped they had two pro bowl caliber level tight ends. They thought they were going to see Bears at some point in that postseason and this was to combat the 46 defense. Simms and the boys lit up teams down the stretch with this actually. I always felt if it wasn’t for the wind in the nfc Championship game they would have beaten Washington by a lot more. They dominated that game as much as they did the week before. I still wish they would have played the Bears in the championship game.

Although I don't really understand how the coaching would work in this scenario, the '86 team feels more dominant and the '90 team feels like the hotter team. Tough call but I always gotta go with '86.
