They are discussing it now on the NFL Network.
We've seen players get long term deals and then their play drops off. JPP, Beatty, Jacobs, Plaxico.
What do you think about Odell? Are you confident he will be the same player once he gets a long term deal?

I really think OB has a tremendous drive to be "the best". There are tings he does that annoy me as a fan but his talent and his passion for the game is clearly evident. At this early stage in his career he wants it all and he will work hard to get it.

I hope his dropping passes decreases, and that his hamstrings stay healthy.

Doubtful, but just the same I don't expect him to be the same player coming off the injury in the first place. And if he's not he's not going to get anywhere near the money he wants anyway.

Of those guys I think Beatty was the only changed man in the group. Got a ring, second contract and started to think of life after football. That’s why he wouldn’t switch cause he didn’t care anymore if they benched of cut him. I don’t think Odell’s heart will change like Wilkerson on the Jets. Odell has that drive to be great and wants to be remembered. Just have to cut the other be out and concentrate on football.

He has the drive to be the best and a number of fingers that could use a ring. It's not all about the money.

I loved Brandon but he eased up a bit after the contract. He flashed but he didn't play like he did after the money.
Plaxico had a bad attitude after he got paid.
And you think JPP was good last year?

I don't see any reason to question his desire to excel. Why would that question even be brought up ? Did they ask that question about anyone else ? Don't remember anyone asking that question when Antonio Brown got his raise. Sometimes this kid is just a magnet for any nut to question anything and everything.
People change once they get FU money.
Odell is someone I feel is a good guy at heart, but every once in a while he makes us scratch our heads.

if OBJ wants a championship as bad as he lets on (I believe he does) he will continue trying to meet that goal.
certainly he wants to get paid but I think hes the type to play his heart out as well. hes too hyper to slow down.

Odell is as passionate a player as we have seen. That kind of passion is not driven by $$. He is ultra competitive, and I think that he will only be driven harder.

Those players all excelled in the big games, before they were rewarded. Whether anyone cares to agree, Beckham has not shown up in past big games (mostly mental). In this regard I would actually expect him to be better in these future chances, after getting a new contract.

Just guessing like all of us but he seems to have the internal drive to be the best WR in the game, after that he will want rings,so if he can come back from the injury 100%,don't think the contract will dampen his appetite to be to be great.

I thought we were discussing how people stop going all out after their contract. If they can't perform becuase of injuries or age or are no longer good then i will agree about Jacobs, JPP and plax. Plaxico was the same way in Pittsburgh before we signed him. That's why they didn't bring him back, he didn't change his style or work ethics after getting his contract. Jacobs used to get tackled low everytime for years. His attitude and work ethics remained the same except he changed his running style knowing people were going below knee on him. You could still see he was trying unlike others who miss meetings, go 50% in practice and during the game by taking plays off. JPP just lost his skill or other than 2011 he was never dominant enough for this contract. He was still giving it his all and didn't stop trying becuase he got paid. He just wasn't that good anymore and it had more to do with his injury and missed time than the contract.. It was stupid for us to give him one. I don't see Odell collecting his pay check riding a stationary bike during a game because of a broken finger nail.

He has never quit on a play ever. I do not see what motivates him to succeed changing. That same driving force also is directly connected to his endorsement career. They go hand in hand Play great = Big Endorsement Deals.

Consensus is... he is a great receiver and can be one of the all time greats. IF..... He plays at that high level several more years, and performs big in some big games. I think Odell wants to be an all time great... if so, that is what will drive him to continue to work and excel. I don't think anyone can tell.... only time.... and luck to remain healthy.

Why is this question even brought up ?
Did anyone ask if Antonio Brown was going to be the same player once he got paid ?
I know it's the off season and we talk about anything, heck I even answered a thread on our long snapper 2 days ago. But really ?
Sometimes this kid gets questioned on anything, even when he doesn't do anything wrong.
Hasn't he been working out like a demon to recover from his injury ?

The real question is will he be the same after returning from this injury. If he's the same physically, he'll be the same receiver on the field when he gets paid. All of a sudden Beckham is Albert Haynesworth or something. He was great and, health provided, he will continue to be great.

The question isn't will he continue to give it his all on the field. Of course he will. He is a competitor and wants to win. 99.9% of these guys give it there all on the field. Even after cashing in. If they weren't competitive enough to want to compete to win on their playing field they would have a very hard time making it pro. Talent isn't enough.
The question would be how he spends his time off the field. Odell currently works his ass off to be great, every single day. Off season, in season, whenever. Will that work ethic slow down once he gets paid?
I think the answer to that is no. I think like a lot have said that he just seriously wants to be the best. He is ultra competitive. He wants to win. And he wants to be a hall of fame and all time great.
But that is the real question. Not if he will give it his all between the lines or not. Cause he definitely will.

Honestly, we really won't know until it happens. His competitiveness could indeed disappear with extreme wealth.
