Penix will probably end up in Denver or Vegas. And he'll probably have a great career. I suppose we won't take him at 6 but I think he's the most "interesting" QB in this draft. Tremendous ceiling. This is possible it's also possible that he could be high on the Giants list, us amateurs speculate and see things from a different view point. If he ends up a Giant I hope he is everything that they think and most of the things we think but not all because some of what we think can be scary.

Tremendous ceiling.Meh, gonna disagree....his ceiling was IMHO at Washington...reuniting with coach DeBoer and running a great passing offense from some nice play calling for college in the new pac 2 His arm talent was on film, and it is real. No need of any pro day with no pads. He also has a huge trap door on that floor where his often injured body might fall through...and eventually you don't recover from those type injuries and the NFL has a lot more exotic defenses than he was facing...he will have to work under center to hand the ball off at times, to create play action...not sure he is comfy with that, and dc's will get to him quite a bit ...pocket presence is as important as arm talent. It basically is the Daniel Jones killer...when the play breaks down he enters panic attack stage 2...and then the fumbles happened. Fixed. Panic now enters year two and onward, and panic stage 3 and onward, the panic that the offense can smell in the huddle...until he's locking more and more on a single receiver and finally running off designs far too often for a NFL QB... sacks and silly throws...less fumbles...accuracy when he has time and a receiver is wide open. No offensive line of course did not help his growth, but Daboll squeezed all he can from this 6 pick lemon, and even juiced a playoff win. All that said, I still take a shot on Penix at pick 6. Penix at six Nix at six Both better then Jones at 6 in talent ...so what the hell The way I see it if they draft one of the secondary QBs they have a year to sit learn behind the likes of maybe Jones maybe Lock possibly more with Locks a mentor. Or as i said before lets give it up and get up the board as far as trading partners will allow.

I'm with you on another post you made...getting old so not sure if I replied to it. I am totally not sold on this OL...again. We signed a swing tackle, and a guard that took less and less snaps at Green Bay as the season went on...given to a rookie. He was being outplayed...not worth 10 million a year. If our center does a Neal this year, we can sign all the weapons in the world...and watch the Jones injury clause make us pay another silly year. Taking an X receiver, and expecting Jones to laser his throws from the now clean pocket, from right hash to outside the left numbers to a X area route 30 yards away is real fantasy football. Of course he can run again, into a 240 pound linebacker and see how that neck thing works out. We can't do another year of one read and run... Going Lock and Jones and not getting a QB to take a chance on would be Gettlemanesque idiocy. I'd rather play Lock the year over Jones...at least he has arm talent, and can reach an X receiver on a rope 40 yards down field....sure many times triple covered, but at least the picks are harder to make when they have some heat on them. In other news, Trevor Penning the LT whom I thought was the best OT of the 4 would take the next step is now looking more and more as a future doorman at a Roadside bar. Never believe a high school LOS coach that enjoys watching film in his underwear and cares not where he flicks his desert boogers. How do you figure Eluemunor is a swing T? He's a two year starter at RT, top-32 ranked. At worst he'll be starting at Guard. And that will require a miraculous turnaround by Neal. The Giants aren't paying him to be a backup. I'm just curious, why some think this, I've heard "swing T" a few times. Because if Neal gets it, as the hope...that's exactly why we paid him the massive 2 year deal ...he's insurance and a quality swing tackle at an affordable starting ... average at best, right tackle contract. I have seen a lot of average come here and die. Too often.... and Neal might also fail at guard if he can't get his feet balanced. I understand the boring aspect of taking "another" tackle at pick 6 not being popular, but this class has a lot of NFL technique ready to plug and play...very unusual for that position coming right out of college. Jermaine Eluemunor is an average tackle signed for 2 years, and paid less than a guard that was losing his position due to horrendous run blocking. He is who he is. Our wide receivers are also average. Why not draft great, and get another shut down OT and secure both edges Mano on Mano ...makes ANY QB throwing the ball have use of those receivers that run routes wide in the X? Eluemunor as a swing tackle and getting a technician at right tackle...Neal now at left guard hoping he can get his feet happy, makes for the beginning of a solid wall effort. And as you say...Jermaine Eluemunor can battle Neal, but at guard with one becoming the swing. Swing tackles of quality are a HUGE need on any NFL team. I am not sold going into this year with this OL feeling martini fuzzy...and that OL better be a wall vs a 20 year old picket fence that was not water sealed and used as a short cut to get to a 7-11 if we want Jones to not get injured...again. Feeling that clause is too big a chance...especially if we have to go for a Prescott...wait what? We are at least investing in solid OL coaching...both for individual counseling and most important...working like a unit. IMHO, that is the key...getting a unit to stay healthy, play smart and work as a single entity on each every play call. Of course, in this pass happy league, having two shut down tackles is ideal, and we thought we had it with Neal. We didn't. So far. We had it with Slater...but then it happened...again. Gettled

He can learn a lot from Jones as far as work ethic what it takes, because Jones doesn't see it on the field doesn't mean he doesn't know how to break down film and study opponents Yes there will be a lot of what not to do with probably Shea Tearney standing right next too him on the sideline and in the film room telling him what happened and why.

Gettled Have to agree even Jones with time can run the offense affectively enough still not winning a championship with him but with top tier OL play he can get it done as far contending for a playoff spot. OL / DL play is the heart of the team the OL in particular pumps the blood the energy to the rest of the offense it gives them more swings of the bat. I your DL is sending apposing offenses to the bench in 3 and out situations it is feeding the offense more swings of the bat. Trench play is the heart that pumps the life blood through out the whole team they need to get it right if they went in that direction they should be trying trade out they need a true RT / RG guy who can do both stud.

He's been very much above average the last 2 seasons. A considerably better player than Neal. Now if Neal outplays him, then that means we're in very good shape. If not, Thomas/Eluemunor is a potent combo. No one should be celebrating, but there was never going to be any signings where we declared the OL fixed. Until we figure out where Neal goes, it's all wait and see. But unless something goes horribly wrong, I would expect the OL to improve dramatically. The Giants addressed the OL exactly how they needed to.

That was my point...we signed more average and this team average and 1st round OL talent dies. I also believe they were not expecting the Eagles to reset the guard market....and had their sights on plan A and had to switch to plan B and C. Just my HO. Hopefully he becomes a quality starter with only a drip vs a pipe burst as we have had, and Neals feet get a little better with less space to move them at guard (I don't think he's fixable at right tackle)...yes, that would be ideal. You still wanting to take a certain lineman in the draft?

Neal's feet are only part of the problem. His reaction time is measured in seconds, when split seconds are the norm. He's just too big to get all that mass moving quickly. Also, being 6'7" isn't going to help him be a good guard. Defenders are going to get under his pads and knock him over backwards.

I realized quickly they don't get it out here. I think Neal/Runyan at Guard could be a good pair. I hope they put Runyan at LG where his pass blocking abilities can shine. Looking at the market, I don't think they missed anything there, considering these outrageous contracts. I do not think OL will be a draft priority outside late rounds. I think the depth is set. I like the kid they got from Minnesota.

Fair post and will stand my view on the OL and trench, although in the minority...so a polite agree to disagree as I feel your pain living in Southern California. I still would like to bolster the OL with a solid plug and play RT but understand why we went OL in free agency and I don't need to be a detective to figure out that says WR if we can't get a QB. I just don't agree with a 6 on a X receiver as having the same impact as having a dominant OL. Yes, ideally Runyan would be better suited on the blind side guard spot as he is a FAR better pass pro guard, but Neal played that spot at Alabama, and his talent level has far more upside at pass pro, and run blocking given his size and going on the attack vs reaction would be a nice sight to see alongside Thomas. Runyan has the feet to do be an effective zone blocker but his latching is high school level when he needs to put a defender in reverse. IMHO of course, and high school was an exaggeration.

The ONLY red flag on dude is that scary medical history I don't know, I felt like Michigan exposed him quite a bit in that champ game. I do agree its his biggest concern though.

I would not be upset with taking a chance on Penix of course not at #6 but watching a lot of Odunze videos, impossible not to notice the incredible accuracy which was on display at the Combine and again during his Pro Day
take away the Injuries and he is probably challenging Daniels to be the #2 QB taken in this draft

If you could find a way to get both Odunze and Penix, that would be interesting.

Also, being 6'7" isn't going to help him be a good guard. Defenders are going to get under his pads and knock him over backwards. He's a few inches taller then the average guard, but not impossible to bend on gap runs and drive people as I have seen on all his tape from his guard year to NFL, and the wingspan will help in pass pro inside. Agree he might have difficulty with leverage on some bullrushes but I'd rather have him do that than trying to step at speed as a tackle at this point. Mass is a good thing but he's lost a LOT of weight to try and get quicker... and what I watch on tape is his lack of ability to step properly vs getting set at the correct time to coincide with his punch. I have seen him do it, and when it happens it is a thing of beauty and the rush is done. But you could be absolutely correct and as I mentioned, he might not be a good guard either. That's called total top ten bust. Let's hope he excels into average somewhere. Wow, imagine Murray as the QB with Neal playing guard...Kyler has trouble seeing over near 6 footers so might want to draft a tall QB vs one that's a shade under 5'10.

First, I would be deliriously happy, well maybe not deliriously, but happy anyway to see him break out at RT like Thomas did at LT, not only for the Giants, but for him, too. I really feel sorry for the big kid. I think he is really trying to be a good RT. He's got to be very frustrated, having been picked at number seven only to be ridiculed for his lack of performance. Second, while losing weight will help somewhat, I think his slow reflexes seriously diminish his reaction time. As for his failure to step properly, it's due to pass rushers being faster that he is causing him to open his hips in an attempt to get back in front of them. By that time they're already past him. Reaction time isn't fixable, at least I don't think it is. I would be happy to hear from anyone who has expertise in this area.

I like Penix and I like Rome. If they or one became a Giant I would be fine with that.
However
Michigan shut down Rome and frustrated Penix so…….there is a bit more to be leery of than folks are talking about. Also several scouting reports “ claim “ Rome had trouble getting separation from the better DB’s he played against. Not sure if that’s true or not but if so things are only gonna get harder. But… Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Michigan vs Washington Penix 27 for 51 251 yards 1 TD 2 Interceptions Average 5.0 yards per pass. Rome 5 catches 87 yards no touchdowns
Hopefully there will be better options for us.
For the JJ haters - only 10 for 18 140 yards ( 2 drops ) 7.8 per pass no interceptions.

Now if he can only get time to throw the pretty deep ball in a bucket vs shotgun and spread college offenses.... Can he drop into a pocket off under center? Will he feel comfortable with all his past major injuries? He was distressed into agony that championship game with pressure....

Michigan was head a shoulders the better team with a much better coach. Penix has beat Harbaugh and company at Indiana with a rag tag team. He also went against the best dline in the country the week before and carve them up. All I know is he only has 5 losses total at Washington and has a knack of getting his offense to score 1 or more points than his defense gives up. Call me crazy I like QBs who can produce touchdowns and win games.

Now if he can only get time to throw the pretty deep ball in a bucket vs shotgun and spread college offenses.... Can he drop into a pocket off under center? Will he feel comfortable with all his past major injuries? He was distressed into agony that championship game with pressure.... will give you that. I wouldn't cry using our 2 on him ...but hopefully we have that plug and play stud right tackle from the Beavers, Talese Fuaga. Of all QB's that need a wall coming into this draft, IMHO he's the one most in need ...his arm when he has time is as good as it gets accuracy and velocity. Giving him that secure OL would allow more confidence getting behind center and sitting in the pocket so he can throw more over the middle of the field

Has Penix signed an endorsement deal with duct tape yet?

Giants will do what they do. I just watch him and the other prospects and see a gap. Dude is the best passer out of all the prospects except for maybe Caleb. He is consistent. He can beat he blitz. He can anticipate. He has natural instinct to get rid of the ball in the pocket. He can read defenses and go through progressions. He has very strong arm and can send it downfield with out much effort. I am just talking about pure QB ability. Even his Indiana games you can see how much better he got. I really think he will be one of the better QBs to come out this year. If I was Philly, the Rams or Miami that would be who I get to complete those offenses.
*Edit: I am biased ever since I saw him put up 500 yards and 4 or 5 Tds against Ohio St. when he was at Indiana. I am a fan since then.

It's early, I hadn't had my coffee yet. I'm a New Yorker, I love sarcasm. But I'm sarcasm deprived on the west coast. I'm pretty sure Eluemunor was signed to be that plug and play RT. But it sounds like they want Neal to have another shot. Which makes the Eluemunor signing sensible. Maybe they draft an OT in the mid rounds to be the eventual RT. But I'm not sure if that makes sense this year if they still think Neal can be their RT. They still have a lot of other needs to address with only 6 picks.

Nabers at 6...move up to get Penix.... Best OL next... Jones starts obviously for now, but a QB room of Jones/Penix/Lock is a huge upgrade...

Sleeper that lost, great pro arm... did not like how he finished in the final game, if he falls to second round grab him.
