Ok this draft another top 10 pick that we must hit on. To say our last 10 1st rd picks have been shaky is kind. Lets go from worse to best. This list is going to make us laugh, cry, and yell. Were all just going to shake our heads. This is just my opinion everyone is welcome to their own. It might be fun.
1) Deandre Baker CB - 2019, 30th overall - Remember this beauty, we come back into the 1st rd to grab this moron. 4 counts of armed robbery beat it on a technicality. Who's idea was this ? IMHO the worse out of the 10.
2) Kadarius Tony WR - 2021, 20th overall - Another beauty, didn't show up for practice, fell asleep in meetings, faked injuries. We should have held a parade when we traded him to K.C. Who cares what we got for him if anything. Addition by subtraction.
3) Evan Neal OT - 2022 - 5th overall - 2 years of frustration and injuries. My own opinion moving to the right side has him screwed up. No proof just what I think. He was so dominant with Alabama in the SEC. Best competition in college football. He has to show something this year from the very first game or he is going to be switched out at RT. He must perform no matter what. We must be able to count on him or he goes to Guard. The next move if he fails at Guard is out the door.
4) Daniel Jones QB - 2019 - 6th overall - Didn't like the pick from jump street. I wanted Josh Allen the LBer, water under the bridge. I thought he was effective his rookie year and last year 2022. Another Evan Neal so far a swing and a miss. If we don't go QB in the draft this year he gets this year to play for his career as a Giant. I'm afraid to play him because if he gets hurt it costs us another 22 mil. I don't think he a starting NFL QB.
5) Evan Engram TE - 2017 - 23rd overall - Thought he was a good player that wasn't used right. Always thought he could have been more effective. I personally think he is and was a good player for us.
6) Deonte Banks CB - 2023 - 24th overall - IMO he had a fine rookie year. He should be better this season if he adjusts to a new defense. He fit Wink's defense hope he makes the adjustment. He needs help in our secondary. A better pass rush is a DB's best friend. I think a good player and am counting on him.
7) Kayvon Thibodeaux Edge - 2022 - 7th overall - 2 years in and is a bonafide good player. Could be an all-star this season with Burns getting the double teams and attention. Plus his own experience and improvement. I think Thibs makes a big jump this season. Don't forget edge rushers never have numbers in Wink's defense they have other duties with all the exotic blitzes.
8) Saquon Barkley RB - 2018 - 2nd overall - He is/ was truly a great player for us. The worse thing that happened to him was we traded OBJ. Now the entire defense keyed on him. Never got him any help and our OL was a obstacle to overcome instead of a supporting cast of strength. His injuries held him back from being even better. He did miss games every year after his rookie season. Were going to miss him especially the QB.
9) Andrew Thomas OT - 2020 - 6th overall - There is nothing negative about AT's play. He is considered in the top 3 LT's in the NFL. The only negative he has is he does seem to get hurt every year. We struck gold with this pick.
10) Dexter Lawrence DT - 2019 - 17th overall - This man has played as tough as nails for us. I still don't think he is recognized enough by media and other fans. That's what happens when your on a crap team. IMHO our best 1st rd pick in the last 10. Apologies to Andrew Thomas. We gotta get him help on that DL. Yes Burns will take some of the double teams off of him. Dex will have more of a presence because of that. Were lucky to have this player.
2024 1st rd pick needs to be a player. So far Shoen and Dabs are 2 out of 3 with still a chance to improve that number. All 3 I am very hopeful they make a big jump this year.
Let me know what you guys think about our last 10 1st rd picks. Some great, some swings and a miss.

Actually now that I look at it, not so bad. The top two are near or at the top of their position. Banks showed flashes of being a lockdown corner. I agree with the order and the bottom 2 were beyond busts. Obviously right now it seems DJ hurts bad

We had 5 top 10 picks, and we are a 6-win team. That is all that needs to be said.

Baker was extremely talented, and didn't beat it on a technicality he never did it to begin with. It was all nonsense. However he was a moron for sure and that's why he never made it in the NFL.
Dunbar (from the Seahawks) was not charged because he paid the accusers $55k to change their story on him, later on their lawyer was caught trying to extort money from Baker and after turning them down the truth came out. Still extremely stupid to be at the underground poker ring to begin with.
Seeing Baker and Toney really make you realize how talent is not the only thing to look at when drafting.

3 of those 1st round picks came in the 2019 draft that kind of hurt missing on 2 of 3 I will say 5 of 10 are good with 2 Allpro talents they need more blue chip type guys KT was productive enough this year he will rush more than he did with Wink maybe hopefully he and burns can't it going.

I'd might rank Banks in front of Thibs but we'll find out more this year. If these 2 players could make a jump up this year our defense could be really improved big time. And I think that both these players do make the jump because of one thing most importantly. Now Thibs will make the jump I believe because of the new DC and Thibs could not really flourish as edge rushers really don't reach their value in Wink's defense. Matt Sudan the edge with the Ravens couldn't wait for FA to leave under Wink. The most sacks he ever had with the Ravens in a season was 7, his first year with N.E. he had 16. Yes he's the biggest example but there are others. Plus this is what is going to help both these players so much. When we acquired Burns for a 2nd rd pick well worth it, we weren't finding anyone better in the 2nd rd. Burns is going to get 75% to 90% of double teams in passing situations. Dex also gets double teamed all game long. They can't double team everyone. Thibs is one on one now the majority of the time on passing downs. Also Burns is going to helps the secondary with his pressure in the pass rush. Now Banks must fit into this new defense. He was perfect for Wink's defense as Banks strength is man to man. But if Banks adjusts to more zone he could have an even better sophomore year than his rookie year. Plus I still believe we sign one of these veteran safeties in FA on a 1 year contract and I believe we've re-signed Holmes not sure about Jackson but any vets will add strength to our secondary. With an improved pass rush it should help so much. Sorry DJ I didn't mean to go into the weeds on why I think our defense will be considerably better. Burns is a big part, 5 players Burns, Thibs, Dex, Okereke, and Banks are the core.

Us eating a 1st round pick leads to Philly losing the SB, I call it a win

Baker was a small and slow corner and that's what showed up in the NFL...never really understood the hype around him from a physical perspective...but I guess there was enough for Dave to trade up for him. I remember him living off the "I'm the best CB in the draft...no touchdowns given up in the SEC" line throughout the whole draft process. I think his agent told him to recite it every interview. I don't think I'm as high as these draft selections as most people...because I don't look at those 10 picks and think they're not so bad. Of course a couple hits in there like Andrew Thomas and Dexter Lawrence...but you should be hitting at a fairly high % when drafting early in the 1st round often. I don't know, he couldn't be that bad and slow if he never gave up a TD in college lol. There's a direct relation between how good you are and how much crap NFL teams are willing to deal with. He was on the wrong side of that equation, Toney is also lol.
No one hits at a fairly high % in the draft. There are just way too many things that can go wrong. Even if the GM made the right pick, the player still might not develop. Neal IMO is a perfect example. He was still the right pick. Injuries and lack of development aren't on Schoen. Not to say GMs are exempt from blame though. I think DG made the wrong call with Toney.

I think this team is headed in the right direction.

If Neal was the right pick he wouldn’t be the biggest liability on the O line, especially for where he was drafted. I don’t give a shit what the analysts say, it’s the GM’s job to figure out who will be a good player and who won’t be. If we’re just going off Walter Football and other analysts, any of us could be GM’s and just fill in spots where we need players. Same goes for QB’s, most GM’s usually get one shot to figure it out, it’s on them to make sure they get the right guy regardless of where they are ranked or who says what. I do understand a GM can’t control injuries but Neal has had plenty of time, even when he wasn’t injured, and the dude never even flashed being a top 10 pick or even a good all around RT. He’s been one of the worst in the league. As far as development, that excuse can only go so far and for so long. We’ll see what he does this year but IMO, for where he was drafted, unless he turns into an All Pro he’s already a bust. Kinda reminds me of DJ. No he wasn’t put in a perfect position, and yes he’s had injuries, but when he has had opportunities he’s failed to make the most of them consistently which is what you need from a franchise QB.

I think DG made the wrong call with Toney. That pick seemed like a desperation move. Like Dave was totally unprepared after the Eagles jumped us. Yeah I think their desire for a WR allowed Toney's talent to blind them. He was very skilled but obviously a nut case. They knew (like every GM/Coach combo so far) that Jones needs some WR help and that's why they got tunnel vision.
I said that night and will always say that Parsons should have been our pick there. Will the combo of Neal/Thibs outperform Parsons in the long run? I hope so.

Check out Roseman’s record in the last three years in rd 1&2: pretty shitty. And he’s considered a “great” GM.
Getty takes alot of heat (as he should), but his record in the 1st rd wasn’t bad. Not amazing, but as good as good GMs. His complete inability to find a starter outside of the 1st rd (X being the exception that proves the rule), out of date positional value, and just an out of date way of running a franchise is where he ran into trouble.

Both had character issues so what do you do - take the player that fills a position of need or your take the best player?
So much for taking the best player.

I hope so.
some of the shine is coming off that Parsons penny. Too much smoke about what he’s like in the locker room lately. Not awesome. Again, we’re fans so talent trumps everything. But in real life we don’t want to work with talented asshats. The military has figured this out. High trust (culture), medium performance is what they prioritize over high performance low trust.

Dude sucks at drafting. He's considered "great" because he loves picking up a bunch of FAs that use to be good(Names, popularity contest). It's not going to work often and will even have the opposite result, like last year. I'll mention this again, under Howie the eagle have NEVER had a better season than their previous year. Meaning his drafting sucks and he goes out and "fixes" roster holes by overpaying vets and backloading contracts that fixes the issue temporarily but costs the next 2-3 years of success and then has to go digging for the Byards, Leonards, Julio Jones...the over the hill players and pray that they have even a mile left in gas. He doesn't build teams, he builds mercenary squads that have a 1 year window to win or a large chunk of the roster has to be overhauled. He's so bad at drafting, he had to over-pay for a RB in FA (Barkley) despite having a quality Oline, he can't even find Dime-a-dozen players...if that doesn't tell you how bad he is at drafting idk what will. He's been living off the all-star vets (kelce cox graham) now they're all gone and that team is ******, watch

You sure the Eagles have never had a better season than there previous year? The Eagles have made the playoffs over 50% of the years while he's been GM. He did draft Brandon Graham in his first year as GM, and multiple pro bowlers in the selected in the last few drafts. Thought the Barkley pick up wasn't bad, neither did Mara..Mara said it made him sick. But that is what it is, I think it made sense for us and them. Don't like the Eagles but got to give credit where it's due.

I checked them out.. And you couldn’t be more wrong if you tried.. Besides Nolan Smith who looks like a slug.. The rest have been integral pieces to the youth movement. Jalen Carter made all rookie team. Which around here he would have a city block named after him. Jordan Davis is a menace against the run. Cam Jurgens started at guard for two years.. and will now fill the big shoes left by Jason Kelce. And Devonta Smith and Landon Dickerson are studs. Gettleman doesn’t belong in the same breath let alone same sentence as Roseman..

I'm not saying the teams, dont improve, I'm saying it takes multiple years he doesn't consistently improve the squads, he rebuilds them every few years. Like 2022 lost SB, 2023, lost WC. He may get past WC next year but my point is he always falls back the following year

I think that GMs still get lazy and fall in love with labels.
Plax was gone, why did we necessarily need a "tall" receiver? Ramses Barden The league is enamored with Tyreek Hill a blazing fast small and shifty receiver. Why did we think we could find lightning in a bottle drafting those labels? Toney
Why do we need to call guys "freakish athletes" and "matchup nightmares" Travis Beckum and Evan Engram.
It seems like they get lazy, much lazier than we would think. you can't go deep in research for mid round picks but rounds 1 and 2, absolutely.
Does anyone here think that if the Giants checked out a guy like Eli Apple with his teammates we wouldn't have learned what an immature guy he was??
Again I call it lazy...
