Just thought it was interesting that according to one of the team sources that spoke to Vacchiano that Mara was aware that people believe he meddles in football decisions which is why he won’t get involved in whatever decision they come to in regards to Daniel Jones even though he still believes in him.

Wellington was beloved, but screwed the team over by not getting a GM until '79. (He was forced to by Rozelle). Then we returned to respectability. John has also got to STFU and keep his football opinions to himself. The Mara's own a football team... they don't know how to run that team... just sign the employees checks and leave the football decisions to Schoen and Dabol. John stayed out of Accorsi's hair but certainly controlled Reese. I don't know if John influenced DG, but the decisions made in the draft and free agency were inept in his time, and smacked of John's inadequacy in football decisions.

His family has meddled in football decisions forever. His brother was a high ranking scout until recently. His nephew has now taken over that role. He may not be meddling, but the football team has looked almost identical for a decade. Someone in there is making the same calls based on the same views.

He is the owner. He can do what he wants. Exactly and he doesn't just own the team, he owns where we've been as a franchise for > a decade. He's a really, really weak CEO. No vision, no strategy, ZERO self awareness, out of touch with his own weaknesses and no clue about where his time is best spent. Otherwise perfect.....

A carefully crafted and disseminated “leak” by the giants pr department. Glad to see one part of the organization is performing well.
He and his family have influence on personnel. Their job titles confirm it. I’ll let you debate the degree of influence.

Mara was quoted, in the press, saying he hoped Schoen signed DJ...that's meddling. He was also on the phone, with DJ, in the final hours of contract negotiations...that's meddling. Mara is talking out of both sides of his mouth. Is he pounding the table demanding moves be made? Probably not. Is he influencing decisions of his direct subordinates? Absolutely! The real problem with Mara, and a few other owners (LV, INDY, etc.) is that he's clueless when it comes to football. When the owner is bad at hiring GMs, it filters down through the organization and nothing improves, except hope, when changes are made every 2-4 years.

He doesn’t meddle in football decisions.
He just has his brother and nephew involved in the HC hiring process, personnel moves and scouting (but don’t worry they NEVER talk about it with each other - EVERYTHING goes through Schoen/Daboll)
Oh yes he also makes public comments on QB contracts, but that doesn’t mean anything. And the whole Eli thing was a misunderstanding that he wasn’t involved with. That was all the coaches.
Yep, John Mara just sits back and lets Joe Schoen run the team.
When John Mara says or indicates a preference for something, Joe can just ignore it because John’s opinion doesn’t matter.
Yes, that’s how it works.

He is the owner. He can do what he wants. I cannot imagine he has been involved in the football operations as long as he has and him still have "no idea how to run a football team". He'd have to be stupider than your average garden slug to not have a well informed opinion on football operations. With significantly more knowledge and expertise on the subject than any one of us and the media talking heads.

Thats not meddling his GM is trying to push the contract over the finish line that is support it's meddling when he says you need to sign this kid or it's your ass. I agree on the GM part John Mara has missed with DG and also dumping TC but keeping Reese just to give him all the free agent bucks he needed to fix some of the terrible draft damage. If Mara was guilty of anything it was standing by and letting feeling get in the way of business not firing everyone back in 2015 then hiring old stand by DG it's not what he makes them do it's what he didn't do than went over the top hiring and firing coaches.

So it’s not meddling by publicly stating what you want? Yeah, I’m sure that doesn’t put more pressure on Schoen to save his job if he goes another direction and it doesn’t workout whereas if he followed Mara’s “wishes”/suggestions and it didn’t work out then he would probably get another shot at drafting a QB even if we had to give up twice the draft picks to do it next year.
IMO, if anything, this quote supports the suggestion that Mara gets involved just by giving his “opinion”.

Yeah, Coughlin fired his staff followed by firing himself. Really the GM had him firing a couple assistants a year so bush league, till it came down to Tom and Jerry Tom found out the hard way when a food team with lots of success falls apart your enemies are the closest ones to you, last men standing were Jerry and Marc their contributions to the debacle got them out a couple years later as it should have been from the start. Thats what Mara was guilty of being an emotional wuss standing by as a well respected competitive team he owned went down the toilet over a matter 6 or 7 unproductive drafts back them that formed what we still have today the wilderness years 2.

The owner saying "We want Daniel Jones here" is not meddling. They were already in the middle of negotiations, of course they want him here. Mara is the one paying the contract, he can chime in to show public support for the QB.

Here's the article this tweet is based off of. Looks like a worthwhile read. "There is so much riding on this for him," said a former NFL GM. "At any other position, it wouldn't be a big deal. But there's only room for one franchise quarterback on your team. If you don't pick the right one, you're usually screwed."

I read what he said Dog and I don’t think you can compare Barkley’s situation to Jones. I still think Mara should keep his yapper shut about his opinions and just say “I support whatever the man I hired to do, Joe Schoen, does”. Mara may very well mean nothing by it but he’s aware of what a lot of people think and he continues to give them more ammo. I’m not saying Mara is directly involved but even small comments like this can imply he does. If I was hired to do a job, I don’t want my boss giving me (or anyone) his opinion unless I ask for it or my job depends on it. Maybe that’s just me but I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t mess with my head a bit and I really do think if Schoen stuck with Jones and he sucked for his 6th year in a row, that would buy Schoen at least 2 more years to draft and develop a QB whereas if he drafts one now, the clock is already ticking.

I feel like those articles with quotes from around the league always point to, ‘I’m not sure what the Giants are doing.’ From, ‘you don’t normally sign a QB to that contract and survive.’ To, ‘the Giants always liked Jones more than everyone else.’ . To, ‘Jones is likely done as a starter in the league and no one would be willing to gamble on him.’ Bad stuff

First, not all people can just walk away from an investment like that. Maybe if you have the cheapest PSL. Second, the Giants could care less because as soon as you left someone bought those PSLs and tickets (probably the same day they were available).

You can make it back in 5 years. If you are unhappy, following me in send a message

some fans seem to forget the NYGs is a family business for the Mara's. Its not some side bar expensive hobby like it is for many owners. For Tisch its more of a side bar hobby. To a degree.
Its HIS business. Not a hobby. I agree with he needs to let football people to the football things but at some point he has to and should be involved.
They are in the top 5 most successful franchises. I guess the Mara family has done ok over all. The also employ almost 300 people.
