John Mara is too be blamed for resigning Dan Jones.
Skip to 7:00 mark.. notice Simms did not deny it. Makes sense, what owner allows their GM to draft a QB less then 6 games after giving their bum QB 90m guaranteed.

While I'd be very inclined to rip on Mike Florio for being the fraudulent hack and whore that he is, I'm not going to do that here.
First off Florio admits that his comments about Mara aren't factually based which makes your post nothing but bullshit.
But let's say for a second that it is true, that Mara did force Schoen and Daboll into re-signing Jones. That would make sense of why they didn't deserve to be fired. And as we all know, Mara gave them his blessing to go get a quarterback now. So let's see how this plays out because it has all the makings of Schoen and Daboll finally having the ability to run this football team.
This could be a defining moment for the Giants where the "meddling owner" must face the damage he's caused this franchise and finally relinquish himself (and his family) from the football operations.
It sure makes for an exciting lead-in to tonight's draft.

I believe it though, for the reasons Florio mentioned.

Who knows exactly what transpired.
We know that Mara is highly involved in football decisions (this is a fact). To what extent he “pushed” the Jones contract, we will probably never know. I think it’s probably more than likely something he wanted and was fully supportive of though.
And yes that gives both Schoen and Daboll some protection. Especially if other people in the org and Mara family are now of the opinion that Jones may not be “it”. Maybe tonight brother Frank will once again convince John to pull the trigger on a QB trade. John Mara can’t fire anybody for putting a contract in place that HE wanted.
It is sounding more and more like the Giants may make a play for Drake Maye, which would pretty much confirm all of this. Whether they will be able to pull it off, remains to be seen. They are in a tough spot.

It is interesting to see this getting talked about because it's something that Mara must face regardless of it's accuracy.

Art Stapleton put out a story not too long ago about Mara wanting Josh Allen in 2018.
Gettleman is on video on draft night talking before the Saquon pick saying that anyone who wanted somebody else needs to get on board and pray that Saquon is the right pick. At the same time, Chris Mara can be seen on video looking pretty disgusted.
That anecdotal evidence is partly why I believe the GM truly runs the football operations for the Giants.

That's okay. It makes the time go as we wait for the draft.

Yes. The Giants released an inside-the-draft video and I noticed Chris' reaction to Dave's comments right away. And I did post about it here so it could be dug up if someone was so inclined.
Pretty sure the Giants removed the video though. You know how much influence we have on the fans.

If you read the account (from John Mara himself) of the Eli trade it it abundantly clear that the ownership family - especially John, but everyone seems to get in the mix - is very much in charge, involved and ultimately making the final call. Not the GM.

Based on having ownership family employees at multiple levels of the organization, including scouting. The comparison I would go with is the Jones family in Dallas.

I don't know how to quantify the average so I went it since I saw examples of both more involvement and of less.

Not the GM. I would say yes he must stamp it, but it only makes sense IMO that the GM has final say - with the exception of something very rare.
Dave Gettleman did say that the Giants decisions were collaborative and as far as I can tell it's been that way for a long time.
As we go, we pcik up bits and pieces here and there about the inner workings of the team at different periods of time.
John Mara divulged that the decision to cut Phil Simms was George Young's and that Wellington was very upset with himself for not overruling it. Further, I recently found out that Dan Reeves wanted Phil as well. So here was a case where ownership and the HC wanted the player but the GM had control.
I think it's fair to say that John wanted to make sure Eli wasn't given the same treatment. Which explains why he fired Ben & Jerry.
