What's up guys. I've been reading the discussions on the old board for years and for whatever reason never actual joined but decided to now on the new board. I'm hoping we can get a lot of the group over here. I was sad to see the old board is shutting down. Anyway I'm excited for the season. I think we can definitely be competitive if the line can hold up and give us a strong running game with Barkley. If eli has time to throw and a good ground game he certainly has the weapons to have a bounce back year. I'm a little more concerned with the lack of depth in some key spots on defense and how they'll hold up in the new scheme. What do you guys think? Can this team get back to the playoffs or at least play meaningful games in December?

Welcome. I'm optimistic on both sides of the ball and one area we have been ignoring is Special Teams. I'm hoping we will be pleasantly surprised with our Specials now that Quinn is gone.

Roosevelt who do you think will return kicks and punts. Would sure be nice to be able to win some field position battles for a change.

I always have hope for the new season. I like that they will have a new O and D scheme. I hope we finally have coaches that use the players to their strengths instead of forcing them in situations they are able to do.
I am an Eli fan but not a homer. I hold him accountable as he does himself. I am sure he can be a game manager I am not sure he can be clutch or have moments of greatness anymore. To help your team get to a SB you need to have that ability. I guess we shall see

We will see. I still think eli can turn it on and play well in big spots if he has the right team around him. I think between shurmur taking over, odell coming back hopefully healthy for a full year, adding Barkley and improving the line there is a lot of reason to think the offense can do a complete 180 and be really good.

He needs to be able to have confidence in the line and standing in the pocket. I think we saw that in the 2016 playoffs against green bay. Unfortunately our wrs couldn't catch the ball. Hopefully he can get back to playing that way consistently.

Good point...they say when a QB loses his faith in the protection of his offensive line that the internal clock gets messed up and hard to recover from...

you guys are right. I love Eli, but was never a raving homer. I played QB in HS, so I know that bad feeling whem the D line is beating your OLine. It's the anticipation... like you say, the internal clock.... suddenly you're rushing yourself. Even if you have decent protection you're expecting to get hit every second you are holding the ball... so you get into the habit of trying to get rid of it fast, every time, and only having time to make half your progressions. You can be forcing that ball into good coverage when another receiver is wide open on the other half of the field you never took time to glance at. It's a rough job. He has to get back some of that mojo he had in the SF playoff game in 2011. He was hit about a dozen times just as he released the ball, after giving the field an adequate look. I don't expect him to take that beating anymore, and the OLIne did suck these past 2 years, but he has to improve his pocket confidence and do his job better on every pass play.

The biggest problem with the Giants is they couldn’t run the ball for squat. Defences were comically sold out to defend the pass all season long - even after Odell went out - and the Giants couldn’t take the easy rushing yards hat were served up on a silver platter. Throw in that the OL couldn’t pass protect either and it becomes easy to bamboozle a pocket passer like Eli. There is plenty that he can do better but I more or less give him a mulligan for 2017...I had a huge problem with MacAdoo and his scheme nearly from day 1 of his HC tenure. The reason Gettleman keeps talking about the Eagles games is because those games showed that when Eli isn’t facing a 2 deep D every damn down he can produce and find the open man. I think he can pull that offf consistently enough. The trick now is to pound the rock effectively enough that teams aren’t so blatantly disrespectful of the rushing attack that they are playing the pass and capping the deep balls/clogging the crossing routes on every friggin snap regardless of down, distance, and situation. This was he least respected O in the NFL last year and I am still saying it’s the worst O I ever saw over the two seasons MacAdoo was running the team. I have never seen as much talent as the Giants have perform so badly. If teams defend that giants like they did last year then Barkley should have about 2500 rushing yards.

Teams dared us to run the ball and the Giants couldn't exploit it. Maybe this coming year it will be different. I would love to see Eli get a running game and more than 2 sec to pass the ball. I still have great respect for him and love to see the guy succeed in the twilight of his career.

Fournette faced 8 in the box (yes) 50% of the time. Lets see, 11-8 = respect for the passing game?

No worries rosy. Hope he makes some big plays.
I totally agree with the total lack of a running game really destroying our offense. When you can sit in 2 high safety looks and rush 4 and still pressure the qb with no threat of the run it makes it really tough. I love eli and he's given us everything over 13 years. But he's gotta bring it this year if he wants to be around in 2019. With all the weapons, and hopefully an improved Oline and run game it's time to show he's still got some more to give.
Go giants

Definitely agree on Quinn. Cant understand how he managed to be on the sidelines for this long. Just remembered cringing every time the special teams were sent out to cover punt returns.

Reality is still a few months away. I do expect improvement and believe that the playoffs are altogether possible.

Im just waiting for the season to start. I will never be a season optimist anymore until I see what they look like in real action. I love what the new regime brings in. These are football people with experience (Shurmer. Shula, Gettleman, Betcher). Its what we needed at this time. Im anxious to see what Saquon can do on the field. Tikis last years were incredible. If Saquon can somehow mimic that, I would be very impressed. Barkleys ability to leak out and catch passes is gonna put tremendous pressure on a defense. I think the TE is going to be incredible (still produced when scheme was garbage last year and no talent around him most of season). Shurmur and Eli are going to use him early and often. The last option will be an amazing ODB with less defensive focus on him. Lets get back to the trenches and start having fun again.

It's good that your contributing and just not reading, keep it up. I think we made a concentrated effort at fixing and rebooting an offense that was desperate for help. it looks like it could be a powerhouse, I certainly hope so. In the next couple years I think we concentrate on rehabbing the defense. With this plan we can compete today while building for the future.
