I think Hill is going to be. Not because he is going to have a better career . It is because of his position. He may start day one by necessity . I do not think Carter will have that opportunity with OV, Martin Ogletree, Goodson and now Barwin . In fact I could see Goodson being bumped for Barwin by the end of camp.

Both our 3rd rd picks, don't know where Hill is going to wind up yet probably DE but he may get snaps at nose tackle. He may be more effective vs the run where Carter probably gets more chances from the outside for QB sacks. I'm assuming Carter will usually be the 4th pass rusher in 3rd and longs and most passing situations.

Probably BJ Hill. Interior guys seem to usually develop much quicker than edge rushers. Gettleman also has a very good track record drafting interior DL. Kind of has that position cased.

Hopefully carter is starting in the second half of the year and can pile up some important sacks to get us in the playoffs!

If he can play inside great but I don't think that I have seen that out of him yet

If he can that would be a + But I think he could be in the middle on blitz packages and 3rd and long.

Since I think Carter will be used on special teams and situationally on defense. He will be in a position to make more plays that stand out. Many think Hill could earn a starting spot, but historically it takes defensive lineman, particularly interior guys, a season before they ready to be productive in a full time role.

Many OL in the NFL will be able to neutralize BJ Hill.
Few will be able to deal with the combination of strength - speed - quickness - aggressiveness and athleticism of Carter.
By the end of the year he will be a terror if coached properly.

By the end of the year he will be a terror if coached properly. That would be my guess also, despite the BJ Hill hype, i think Carter could be the better player. Both will be going up against the likes of tyron smith and trent whathisface from the redskins etc. No easy task. Carter had some great college tape but it was inconsistent, probably due to his being asked to be a jack of all trades, and play multiple positions. He looked lost out there in college a lot. If he is given one position to focus on he should hopefully excel. I think the media has reported the team is saying Carter will be a pass rusher & edge setter, which they feel are his strengths. Let's hope they are right. He reminds me of Ogletree actually, but perhaps more athletic. It should be fun to watch his progression/development in the NFL.

It would be refreshing if we could argue which LB from the NYGs was playing great!!
Hope we are able to have that discussion

That's why I made my " coached properly " comment. He was asked wear too many hats at Georgia but he is an athletic beast and the coaches obviously felt he could contribute in multiple ways.

Yeah man. Agree wholeheartedly. High Hopes for the kid. He appears to be a nice fella also in his interviews which is a big plus.

Personally i think Carter will have more stand out plays due to position, initially a pass rush specialist with the new addition of Barwin and the transition to OLB for Vernon. Hill may be a good pro, but i think it will take a season or 2 to get into his own... Then again i wasnt in the inner circle when it came to Hill, so who knows

I thought Barwin was an outside backer in the 3-4 I thought I read he can play inside but I might have Saw he played DE and LB and believed MLB. think he played DE in the 4-3 and OLB in the odd man front, some folks think he can play ILB but until they have conformation on who the best 3 edge rushers are I think he will stay outside, unless someone unproven steps up and proves they are better.

He has been getting pressure in camp . A good sign. We may have stole him for what we got him for. ( fingers crossed)

Both rookies......who do you think has a bigger impact? Carter should have a better year. I am a big fan of Hill, but I think given his position, he will be up against some elite left tackles and maybe neutralized most of the season. Carter should take advantage of the blitz and pressure schemes to make a bigger impact
