I say we bring him back in a limited role... just to get his input on the draft. Can't hurt to have an extra pair of eyes that knows the business.

Somewhat surprised, but he's definitely put the Jaguars in a better place. They were bottom dwellers for a while. As much as I like and appreciate what Coughlin has done for us, there's no point of retreading those tires. He's older than Gettleman and I'm not so sure teams are going to be knocking down the door to bring a guy in at his age.

Time to retire coach. I know, it’s all you know. You have been coaching at the college level and pros since 1970 I believe. That’s 49 years.. Think about that, almost a half a century. You will go down as one of the best coaches this franchise has ever had, you turned an expansion team in the Jaguars into a winner. You have two super bowl victories that will be remembered for as long as football is played. You’re in the ring of honor and soon to be hall of fame. Your constant attention to detail and hard work made grown men hate playing for you, but they would run though walls for you. Thanks for being the constant reminder that hard work pays off at the end.
Once a Giant, always a Giant..

This team has got to stop looking backward ... it's time to move forward and evolve or else we will be in this shape for the foreseeable future.
I mean, there are posters calling for us to bring back Parcells for Pete's sake.
How about we find the new Parcells?

The funny thing is they almost didnt hire him because he was so passionate and positive about what he knew they thought he was nuts in his first interview.

Right? Sadly, I dont think ownership is looking for a pain-in-the-ass like Parcells. Hence McAdoo and Shurmur...

wow i just saw it on a news feed Coughlin getting fired was inevitable considering what went down with the NFLPA. Thats right I had forgotten he got in trouble with them again, partly why he needed to hang up coaching, these days players will not play with a hangnail and will whine about practice going on 20 min longer than it should.

Unfortunately, for TC . But, he will alienate future FA . Giants , can not afford to get him involve in the organization. This is the New NFL. I am big TC supporter , but he had his time in the sun. He will never be forgotten .

I would rather Coughlin came back as HC rather than a draft consultant of some sort--not saying I think that's best for the team though. I love what he accomplished here. But I feel like he was possibly just as much to blame with some of the terrible personnel decisions post-2011. Kuhn stands out to me, probably the worst DT i've ever seen make a roster on the giants and TC raved about him every year as if he was Keith Hamilton. Andre Williams was another bad pick that I think Tom really loved. He was a part of those bad drafts, who knows quite to what extent. I'm not too familiar with the players he's helped acquire with the Jags, so I can't say whether or not he's lost it or not. But based on the giants last few drafts while he was here I'd have say that maybe he's lost his touch or changed what he looks for in players.
A lot of people gave him credit for the Jags season in 2017 but I believe a lot of those players were there prior to him working for them and since 2017 they have seemingly struggled and possibly regressed a bit? Don't know the context of their records but from the outside looking in it does not look good.
Coughlin should probably just retire, he is getting up there in age and I'm sure his family would love spending some more time with him.

I actually just heard earlier this week Jacksonville players had been fined 2x or 3x more than other teams. It apparently got to the point upcoming FA's made it known they were taking those fines into consideration when it comes time to choose a team. I figured it wouldn't be long until TC got canned, but I didn't think it'd happen within the week.

If I remember it right, John Mara didn't want him but his Father Wellington did.

Players sign one day contracts with their old teams all the time, that's essential how he'd view it... one last job for the team he had his best years with. Bring him in, give him a collared shirt emblazoned with the NY, and have him sit around an office and evaluate players in the upcoming draft. After the draft, he gets a proper sendoff at some home game next year.

Great coach and good NFL guy but he lives in Jacksonville, which is one reason he took the job with the Jags. He isn’t leaving his water front property in Jacksonville for NYC...not a chance.

How do you reconcile Coughlin’s belief in rules with the fact that he constantly violated the CBA rules?
