This is not a bash Toney thread. It is just something I am learning about right now. I was harsh on the Giants for drafting Baker after finding out they knew about his character concerns. I was harsh on learning about Parsons immaturity issues. Now I see this about Toney: Some background on Toney’s off-field incidents at Florida: In May of 2018, Toney was detained — not arrested — by Gainesville police for an on-campus confrontation between Florida players and locals where he painted an air-soft gun to look like an AR-15 assault rifle. According to reports, Toney and a teammate were caught “holding and pointing what appears to be an assault rifle at other individuals on campus.” In July of 2018, police officers pulled Toney over for a seatbelt violation and during the stop discovered a loaded AR-15 in the backseat of his car. He was initially handcuffed for safety reasons — due to the presence of the weapon in the vehicle — but was eventually released once it was determined that Toney wasn’t violating Florida’s open-carry law. Toney was eventually suspended for the Gators’ season opener that year. - So, he didn't do anything wrong here. That said, he openly carries an AR15 for some reason which I personally find to be nothing but trouble. I am against civilians being able to own such powerful guns. My opinion. They say hey fully vetted him and believe in his character but, they also said the same with Baker (Gettleman did, Judge was not here). The Giants were well aware of all of that, which is why they spent so much time digging into Toney’s background and mining their resources for information. Judge pointed out that senior defensive assistant Jeremy Pruitt recruited Toney out of high school when he was an assistant at Alabama and had an established relationship with him already. “We have numerous coaches that spent a long time recruiting, have had this guy in summer camps for multiple days at a time and had extended exposure to him,” Judge said. “We spent time with him in person to get to know the person there and that continues,” Pettit said. “Listen, if there was a concern with him, he wouldn’t have been on our board.” www.nj.com/giants/2021/04/in-kadarius-toney-giants-drafted-a-player-with-off-field-issues-at-florida-but-they-still-dont-think-hes-the-next-deandre-baker.html?outputType=ampSo, if you were against drafting Parsons because of his past, is this something that concerns you? I didn't realize all these gun things were in his past. Nothing I see since 2018 when he was 19-20 year old, but, Florida is a school that buries a lot of incidents and wrong doings for their football players. Hopefully it is all in the past.

He'll need to get used to not carrying, living in the metro NY area.

Look it's concerning. Not going to deny that. However, NY and NJ gun laws are not as friendly as Florida so he'll either have to do without it or get the proper permits and perhaps start distancing himself from an AR 15 type weapon.

It's something that normally attracts trouble. This is news to me. I'm a bit shocked how serious the "off the field" stuff was.

It is in my area, shit I'm in small town and a waiter at the one pizza joint got mad at the manager and walked in and opened fire with AK. When we first moved in here in vero beach a guy had a road rage incident where he opened up on the car next him killed the driver. Florida is nuts with guns.

The gun laws in Florida are a joke. You can get your concealed license in cereal box. Now saying that, there is no reason to be carrying an AR-15 in your car. Unless you’re going to war, that weapon has no business being in your car. Clearly, he’s a gun carrier. Which is fine, most athletes carry guns. But, he won’t be in Florida anymore. Here, in civilized part of the Country, they don’t allow those kind of guns on your person. Leave it at your home, or be prepared to pay the consequences.

Think they should have him have a fire side chat with Plex. Florida is wide open for weapons.

Did anyone see Judges comments on this? He said this player was extremely vetted. They have college coaches that recruited him and worked with him. They have coaches on the staff that had this kid in various camps through the years since he was 14 years old. He said we know alot more about this kid than you see "in a tweet".
I trust that he is vetted.

We all know Gettleman came here with the idea to change the team's culture and that Judge may be even more dialed in on the player's attitude than Dave.
These guys are football players and not choir boys.

Stop with the disinformation. AR-15 is a brand that is used as a boogeyman. It is no different than any other semi-automatic rifle, which every hand gun is also. The only thing that makes semi-automatics scary are the magazine capacities.

Got no idea how a conversation on a football message board stemmed to this, but I will say this….a gun, auto or semi, is a tool. Not a toy. Have not owned one since I got out of the service. I personally don’t understand the mystique, but some guys just never grow out of it. I personally won’t touch one ever again. Some enjoy them. Bottom line is they have their purpose. An automatic weapon has absolutely NO purpose in everyday living. Only people who should touch those things are qualified individuals such as myself in an environment they are meant to be utilized in. Farmer Brown down the road should not own an AR-15 or an AK-47.

If you want to do so and personally attack one another take it PM. No one wants to read it. Or settle it like men: arm wrestle at Hooters over it.

All you have done is bash this pick, mainly due to your son watching college football and not liking it. Don't use this as some justification on your part of why this is a bad pick when you knew NOTHING about him beforehand and just now see this. And man, to go by USMCVET and call an AR-15 an automatic weapon makes me question if you were a REMF. I was in the Corps as well...no Marine I have ever known would call a semi-automatic rifle an automatic weapon. No one. Ever. We laugh at people that do. If you were carrying an M16-A1 back in early 'Nam then maybe, but that isn't an AR-15 and you would know that.

Safe, Semi, Burst….don’t you remember? Everybody is too damn busy trying to discredit people. Somebody went UNQ at the rifle range here….wasn’t me, I’ll tell you that!
