People talk about Joe not being worthy of the HOF. My memory of Joe as a kid was he had a rocket for an arm. Seeing this made me smile.

I think that he is more than worthy. If not for the injuries and the era that he played in, he would be talked about as one of the best ever to do it. I'm not old enough to have seen him play regularly, but I have seen enough of his highlights to know how great he was at the position.

we will never know how good Namath could have been if not for the multiple knee surgeries...

Namath is a HOF on the amount of tail he got alone. He’s also the face behind one of the biggest upsets in league history. This is prof stats don’t tell the whole story.

Namath, like Eli will, got the HOF because he played in NY. Let's face it, short of the SB win (which was a gift by Earl Morrall's 3 int's and Eubank's great game plan) he's a mere afterthought . Without that SB he's just a New York Jets memory. He played below .500 ball, had almost 50 more int's than TD's, 20 fumbles lost added to his turnover total. Only had a QBR in the 70's 4 out of 12 years and was as low as 39.9 for a season. Without the SB he's not even an average QB.
Sure he threw a wonderful ball, and he played at a university I admire. And I watched the game originally. He's was ahead of his time marketing himself. Not a great QB and not a great career. Only the SB. His body of work sucks!

I thought Joe Willie threw as great a pass as anyone whoever played. His ball actually whistled when he threw it. I heard Marino and Farve threw passes like that. I sold hot dogs at Shea when I was in high school when he played and in warmups I could hear the ball from the railing where we watched him throwing in warmups.
Wasn't he the first QB to throw for 4,000 yds ? Not sure of this but I think so. He was really a dedicated teammate other Jets said what he went through with those knees just to play was so admirable. His teammates loved him. Joe Willie gets short changed in history by todays standards imo. Nobody cared about completion percentage in those days he put up points and threw for TD's and plenty of yardage flipping the field for his defense.
It's like everything else using todays standards to judge history.

But it is called the hall of Fame, not the hall of stats. He certainly was famous.

Terry Bradshaw has a nearly 50% completion record and threw almost as many ints as TD. Yet he is on the Hall for those 4 SB wins..
First 6 years of Namath career was great, then after that SB it went downhill

If Bradshaw didn’t have all those Super Bowls, he would be on the outside looking in like Ken Anderson.
