If you were a GM and knew the Maras are running the scouting department…why would you come here?
The GM search will include Ernie Accori consultant. And the hire will be someone ok with the Maras having say.

Let’s be real here. It’s Kevin Abrams job to lose. Other than George Young, the Giants have always promoted within, or hired familiar faces. It will be no different now, the Giants will do their rounds of interviews. Bring some names in, a few mystery guests. And at the 12th hour, the announcement of Kevin Abrams is the new Giants general manager. Mara will sell us a bunch of false goods, with a few magic beans. Kevin Abrams will bore us to tears, and we’ll be back on the highway to hell..
Any general manager worth his weight in salt will want to hire his own head coach, and draft his franchise quarterback. If Mara pushes the head coach and quarterback on the new GM. Most, will balk at the idea and give them a hard pass. Not exactly an enticing place to work when you’re an established general manager in this league. Yes men, need apply..

That the Meadow lands brothers circus will stay out of their way.

Patiently waiting for the homers to chime in on how prestigious it is to work for such a storied franchise as the NY Giants and how there will be a line of great potential GM’s just begging for the job.

This is why I'm so indifferent about replacing Gettleman (and I have to unfortunately add this disclaimer in this place...this by no means is me saying he has to stay as I've stated the past year why he sucks and how he ****ed this rebuild up especially since 2019).... Fredo running everything from behind the curtain, nothing will change ...

Based on probably the ancient book of "the Giants way "(though I'm shocked Toney slipped through the cracks TBH because he is about as in Giants Way as there is ,but for instance Linebackers having to have a baseline hight and size ...which is why even mid round guys are meh at best )

And if the higher guys in a scouting department are the franchise owners...well...this is Jerry Jones, Dan Snider, Al Davis, Paul Brown.

And the hire will be someone ok with the Maras having say. Basic organizational dynamics says that no good, established GM would ever walk into the NYG situation....no authority to hire your own HC, run the scouting department with your own people etc. If an established GM would accept that situation, they are the wrong person by definition. Our best hope is to get an up and comer who wants to get "NFL GM" on his resume. Even there, the best of them can get themselves into a better situation and other teams will sell against the Giants highlighting all the points you make above.

Who gets the ultimate last say??

Well trying to look at the positives, they definitely have a franchise left tackle and a WR that can make offense run all by himself if he is healthy.
As for as cap is concerned I think there they no one besides maybe Williams is signed father then 3 years from now so they have a window to blow it up and reset if they do choose.
They have a qb that has all the physical tools that you need to develop and a high draft pick in case they want to move on.
Finally, they have 2 first round picks if they really want to get a new qb.
These are the main pluses for a gm interested in this job

Gettleman fired existing employees and hired his own after he came here. The basis of the post is just false.
There are 32 NFL GM positions in the world, Any potential candidate would jump at the opportunity.

The hope would be that a proven GM the Mara’s really want would demand full control and that they decide, with Tisch’s influence, that it’s best for the franchise to do so.
