Joe Judge on 1-5 Giants: 'The fish stinks from the head down'Joe Judge's second season is off to as poor a start as his first year in New York. The Giants sit at 1-5, identical to their 2020 campaign. Back-to-back blowout losses to Dallas and L.A. underscore how far Judge's team is from competing against the best of the NFC. On Thursday, Judge acknowledged it's on him to right the ship. "I'm the head coach. It's my responsibility. Point blank," the coach said, via Art Stapleton of The Record. "Every player on this field, every position group, the execution, it all comes down to me. The fish stinks from the head down. I've been taught that by great guys I've worked for and played for. There's no excuses." "There's no exceptions," Judge added. "You demand it of your coaches to make sure players are playing the right way. You demand it of your players about what to do, and they have to go out there and do it. But it starts with me and ends with me."

I dont think we get rid of him yet, we go round and round and round with this team for years now and the truth is this roster sucks.
we have NOTHING for linebackers. no leaders. the only talented playmakers on offense will never be healthy.
we have zero depth.
judge has disappointed this year, I cant deny that, but the guy is really young still.
im glad he actually said that though, thats a different tune than what hes been singing all this time, i think if he becomes more transparent and loosens up in that regard, hes got a better shot at maturing and growing himself.
hell, even coughin as an older dude changed his ways somewhat . coaches can evolve too.
I dunno....

The real "head of the fish" is above Joe Judge. I'm doubting he meant it that way, but has to make you wonder what his bosses think when they hear that. Wonder if they subscribe to the same philosophy. Probably not.

young coaches develop just like players this is what the Giants signed up for when they brought him here, If they stop making stupid mistakes he will survive like never playing Marcus Golden then trading a useful pass rusher who was really good in the locker room also. The coaches had as much to do with this as the meat head engineering the trades.

I've never been in favor of on- the- job training for a guy who is already in the top job, so far Judge has shown me nothing that impresses me as a head coach and I would be in favor of moving on from him after this season and looking for a coach with a proven track record, which is what we should have done when we hired Judge...

I've never been in favor of on- the- job training for a guy who is already in the top job, so far Judge has shown me nothing that impresses me as a head coach and I would be in favor of moving on from him after this season and looking for a coach with a proven track record, which is what we should have done when we hired Judge... Unfortunately the only way to learn to be a HC is by being a HC. |

And the coaches coach, barely. We can blame Mara, and the human ottoman Dave Gettleman. However, the head coach should shoulder a lot of the blame. Last year he impressed me when he held the team together through a 1-7 start to go 5-3 down the stretch playing in a playoff type atmosphere even this the record sucked. They ran some nice fake punts even tho they got called back by penalty thought he was more aggressive and hands on last year. |

I can do a roll call from hell with half our roster. But, to be this bad takes a collaborative effort. That means Judge, and the coaching staff, the players, the front office. Even the concession stands and their over priced beers are part of it.. |

Team had six wins last season vs some opponents with backup QBs. They probabky weren't a legit six win team. They add a bunch if mercanaries, have a ton on injuries, and here we are. I don't think any coach wins with this bunch. |

I'm not for moving on from Judge yet, but if nothing improves by this time next year, bye bye.If they don't show improvement this year, I find it highly unlikely a new GM will want to retain Judge, then fire him week 6 next year. At 1-5, nobody should be talking about any of these coaches returning in 2022. |

Other than sheer luck what makes anyone think a new coach changes things?
Any coach worth keeping isnt coming here until other fundamental issues are addressed.
IMO, at this point firing coaches is 100% a PR exercise, nothing more.
A new coach buys you half a season of hope.

IMO, at this point firing coaches is 100% a PR exercise, nothing more. A new coach buys you half a season of hope. You need a good coach, there are no good teams without one.. McAdoo, Shurmur were not. If Joe Judge is a good coach, it's the best-kept secret in the NFL. |

I would even take a well established OC or DC as HC. A special team coach with zero OC or DC or HC experience on any level. What in the hell was Mara thinking? Team sucks, nothing Judge says makes a damn bit of difference he needs need to show results, in player performance, play calling, time management, special teams every aspect needs improvement so he needs to start showing us what he can do as a head coach and give rid of that "L" on his forehead. Stop with the fish stories or whatever stinky story he is trying to sell us.

What is an example of a coach with a proven track record (cause Ive seen this several times now), that's not currently the head coach of another team? I guess outside of Doug Pederson.

Look at Kevin Stefanski, he's a step ahead of the other team. You think Keenum is a good QB? Their best player on offense has missed most of the season. They have no player makers outside the RB's. No deep passes, no big plays, just moving the chain all night. That's what brilliant play calling is. Coaching doesn't make some difference, it makes all the difference.
