don't like this trade, lose two of my favorite players, and take on much larger contracts. Leaves la machine with no place in infield and his big contract too.

I'm ok with the trade, I think Sanchez needed to go, and we certainly need the SS. Not happy to see Gio go, but you have to give something to get something.

Well... weird trade IMO. I have to digest this before I make a comment here. First thoughts are, meh. Glad we traded Sanchez but...

The only way to do that is if they aren't done trading yet, and the trade would include either Lemahieu or Torres.

Scouting report on Ben Rortvedt, who honestly, I have never heard of.
APR 2021 REPORT EVALUATOR: JUSTIN LADA Age: 23 yr Height: 5-10 Weight: 205 lbs Hits/Throws: L/R Acquired: 2016 Round 2 RuleV: On 40-Man Roster
Physical Description: Compact frame with wiry strength. Solid build for a catcher despite not having a bigger durable type frame. Muscular upper body, arms and forearms. Solid base. Good overall athlete.
Hit: Crouched, slightly open stance. Small toe tap for timing and a very short stride. Compact swing and quick hands. Swing is mostly flat and he slaps the ball the other way. Has a mature approach at the plate. Shows ability to work counts and lets the ball travel deep, which is when he hits the ball the other way. Swing-happy approach is related to his bat-to-ball skills. Grade: 40
Power: Doesn't have electric bat speed but swings hard. Has strength for average to above average raw power. Has a sweet spot where he gets good vertical bat angle low and in, showing he can match plane, but not consistent in his swing. Flat, compact swing and approach not geared for in-game results of his raw power. Grade: 40
Field: Uses the one-leg approach behind the plate but will adjust with runners on at times. Quick, agile behind the plate. Average blocker but has good receiving skills. Quick, quiet glove. His glove might be his ticket to the majors. Grade: 50
Arm: 1.89-2.02 pop times. Quick arm. Occasionally pulls his throws or gets them in too low. Quick to get out of the crouch but accuracy is inconsistent. Average arm strength and pop time that works enough in a backup role. Grade: 55
Run: 4.45-4.50 home-to-first times. Seems to get out of the box fairly well and has quick feet for a catcher but isn't a good runner on the bases. Grade: 30
Overall: Rortvedt's defense gives him a solid base of skills to work with as a potential future major league backstop. He has the strength for more power than he's hit for in the minors and has the contact ability to get to it, along with a solid approach and good pitch recognition. His current swing just doesn't produce much power and he lacks bat speed and over swings at times. He seems like a better bet to be a high-contact bat with good defensive skills, which is a good base for a major league backup catcher. If he ever gets to more power he could play a bigger role.
OFP: 40 Role: 40 - Below-Average Player: Bench Risk: Moderate

I want kraken back. Hope he fails his physical Is Higgy the man going into spring training? Thats what it looks like right now... Not sure about this deal, but here is an interesting note: Im definitely ok trading Sanchez, but, I wanted him to go to the NL. He is going to gear up when he plays against us. I can picture it now, Sanchez taking Cole deep.

I think they'll be ok with each other, it's not like Donaldson's comment lacked merit. People respect someone with a spine to say what they think. Btw I'd think given the history the team made sure of this beforehand, unless the plan is to flip Donaldson too

Brian Cashman reached out to Gerrit Cole before the #Yankees acquired Josh Donaldson. Cole told him: “I’ll be fine.”

With the Braves getting Olson from Oakland, it looks like it is either here or LAD for Freeman IMO.

Josh Donaldson can mash with anyone. But, haven’t we learned a thing about trading for aging veterans?

They also went back to 9 inning Double Headers, and No Runners on 2nd Base to start extras, thank God. I would be in favor of the runners on 2nd base after a few (2 - 3?) extra innings. Nobody wants to watch a team putting position players in as pitchers to protect their bullpen on more critical series. Just MO.

The unvaccinated visiting players are allowed to play. It seems to be mostly a punitive measure, not a safety one, especially at this point in time.
