It's been confirmed that Trouba is the new Captain (I'm on the Rangers mailing list, they emailed me...):
New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that defenseman Jacob Trouba has been named the 28th captain in franchise history. Trouba will be the first captain since Ryan McDonagh (2014-15 – 2017-18) and becomes the 12th defenseman in team history to be named captain.
“Right away when I got here, it was clear that Jacob had a certain presence in the locker room and among his teammates that exemplify what you need out of a captain,” said head coach Gerard Gallant. “With where our team is at and where we want to be, he is the right person to lead us there.”

When Gallant tells you he is the guy, that tells me the team supports is and that he is absolutely the right guy. I like it !

Offloaded Tchachuk and will end up an even better team ultimately. Forget the rest of the goods, just Kadri and Huberdeux makes you a better team.

Fla with the early exit and Huberdeux didn’t do much so they add grit, skill and youth. Hmm, still Huber was their #1 offensive threat. Fla tougher yet idk. Flames were forced to to move Tkachuk so lose that toughness yet bring in arguably more skill which is nice vs opponents like Edmonton. Then add toughness with Kadri and move Monahan plus a #1 to Montreal as a salary dump. Wow

That’s a nice haul for a guy who had no future here. He would have had to have supplanted Adam Fox, good luck with that.

I get the feeling the Kane train is going to be a media darling.

Doubt Boston does it but who knows? Would the Avs do it? Kings take a shot? Oilers going to let another year come an go? Flames going to go for it? Minny knows they need a boost. Blues? Vegas going to pass?

Panthers gave up great Capital for Giroux and that meant squat. That said if we are having another high potential season(and we can separately discuss why I believe we may regress this year)I would welcome dumping that Nils Lundqvist 1st for Kane. On the right team he’s a difference maker.

Vesey better make this team over that clam opener Dryden Hunt. Gallant better wake up.

Vesey better make this team over that clam opener Dryden Hunt. Gallant better wake up. I’ve caught a couple periods and Vesey has looked good. However , when Gallant talked about the penalty killing and how effective it should be, he never mentioned Vesey. To me that’s a sign.

Impossible to understand what Gallant sees in him.

What’s interesting to me is Kratsov is solidly entrenched as 2nd line. They really like this kid considering he ghosted us last year. I’m actually expecting good things from him. He’s quite the snipe from what I understand.

Honestly I’d rather see Gauthier there. At least he drives possession and draws penalties. He can’t finish to save his life but he moves play. I like Reaves, but just for about 35 games vs the heavy teams. He can’t skate with the quick ones. I love that they’re keeping the Kid line together. They play with a lot of confidence and chemistry.

We will roll Mika-Kreids-Laffy Trochek-Panarin-Kratsov Chiytl-Kakko-Goodrow Carpenter-Blais-Reaves We will hold Vesey. Not sure about Couteyere. He is borderline allergic to finishing.

And so my non Giants focus officially shifts to all the boys out at MSG(in blue and red and blue and orange). I hope it’s another good year, if Igor remains Igor the sky is the limit. Kakko was impressive as hell in the fake games.

On the ev of a new season
Remember this guy?
Can you imagine him with the 1980-83 era team if he didn't go down that rabbit hole

Predictions? I will go with Rangers end up with 99 points and finish behind Carolina and Pittsburgh and make the playoffs. 2nd round exit. Our injury situation was pretty good last year, something to one of the big guns will probably happen. I also think it’s destiny we ship out a future first and a good young player to rent Patty Kane from Chicago who can afford to eat his salary.

Minus the Kratsov injury that’s about as good of an opener as you can hope for. If Vaseilevsky didn’t stand on his head could have easily been 6-1.

I don't want to jinx them but they have an outstanding young team with plenty of upside. Their D was extremely healthy last year and if that luck holds out they could be ready to take the next step.
That was an excellent team that they shut down yesterday. One game, I know. But last year, the first 1/3 of the season, they were all over the place. This year they look like they can stick to their structure.
And Zibanejad is usually a slow starter. If he gets off to a fast start, he could be the Ranger who scores 50 this year. He is that good.
