The fact he is running is an enormous step. I always thought it was multiple steps taken very quickly.

As of now, Giants glaring problem on front line is with Neal at right tackle and the Giants need at least a back-up center. A healthy Gates could fill both needs.
On defense, Adoree Jackson is unable to defend deep passes. The Giants should try Flott in his stead. Otherwise the Giants will be forced to play 3-safeties when Jackson is on the field.
Giants will be vulnerable on opponent's runs if they blitz too often.

If Gates was 100% healthy and ready (unlikely) he might become my starter at center.

He is our #1 CB … by a mile I'm confused, as to where we are with our DBs and receivers. Supposedly our receivers are below average as a group, and we will have issues stretching the field. But then I see videos and reports of scoring plays and guys having great days. Does that mean our back end defense will be very vulnerable?

Does that mean our back end defense will be very vulnerable? if where we are seems muddled, maybe that actually means that you have a good situation here- namely, a good back-n-forth between the 2 groups where no one has the upper hand overall revealing one unit as a glaring weakness, but rather the practices have served to elevate each group's game by the competition. Hopefully not indicative that they're both bad... Least I hope so...

Giant receivers overall are excellent. So are tight ends Ballinger and free agent Andre Miller.
Robinson will prove to be far superior to Jackson covering long passes.

That is something other teams have worked that for long scoring drives and worn our defenses down in the past. That should at least elevate our ability to counter, come actual games.

I'm still worried that we won't really have anything to push the safeties back into a deep zone where our short game would flourish as of now While not really Ideal for this role maybe Golladay can be the guy that forces this because it's looking like Slayton won't be the other guy... Maybe Toney can be the Tyreek Hill guy that does everything..

Well, if the scheme has guys doing multiple facets, and no one set in a certain role - you can keep defenses guessing, and get a non-straight line receiver open deeper for that. But again with the line, you need more time to throw in those situations.

Nice! Wonder when/if he was cleared to strength train his legs. Any idea? Probably "easy" to keep upper body strength with a broken leg, but lower body strength is what wins for his position.

Gates would be a great come back story. But any Giants fan planning on him having an effect this year is delusional.
Taking unopposed snaps is nice. Playing center in the NFL after that injury is another.
He'll be lucky to come back period.
