If it turns out that Jones is not the Giants QB after this season; we have talked much about the draft, but very little about vets that might become available. It seems established QBs are changing teams more often these days. Are there any vet QBs that might become available after the season that would be good pick ups for the Giants to lead this team going forward?
Here is the list of starting QBs and primary back ups; who do you think will be available and a possible answer for the Giants in the event that Jones isn't and neither is a QB in the upcoming draft?(If I messed up any of the back-ups, I apologize and let me know)
Arizona: Kyle Murray; Colt McCoy
Atlanta: Marcus Mariotta; Desmond Ridder
Carolina: Baker Mayfield; Sam Darnold
Chicago: Justin Fields; Trevor Siemian
Dallas: Dak Prescott
Detroit: Jared Goff; David Blough
Green Bay: Aaron Rogers; Jordan Love
LA Rams: Matthew Stafford; John Wolford
Minnesota: Kirk Cousins; Nick Mullins
New Orleans: Jameis Winston; Andy Dalton
NY Giants: Daniel Jones; Tyrod Taylor
Philadelphia: Jalen Hurts; Gardner Minshew
San Francisco: Trey Lance; Jimmy Garoppolo
Seattle: Geno Smith; Drew Lock
Tampa Bay: Tom Brady; Blaine Gabbert
Washington: Carson Wentz; Taylor Heinicke
Baltimore: Lamar Jackson; Tyler Huntley
Buffalo: Josh Allen; Case Keenum
Cincinnati: Joe Burrow; Brandon Allen
Cleveland: Deshaun Watson; Jacoby Brissett
Denver: Russell Wilson; Brett Rypien
Houston: Davis Mills; Kyle Allen
Indianapolis: Matt Ryan; Nick Foles
Jacksonville: Trevor Lawrence; CJ Beathard
Kansas City: Patrick Mahomes; Chad Henne
Las Vagas: Derek Carr; Jarrett Stidham
LA Chargers: Justin Herbert; Chase Daniel
Miami: Tua Tagovailoa; Teddy Bridgewater
New England: Mac Jones; Brian Hoyer
NY Jets: Zach Wilson; Joe Flacco

I would not be surprised to see Trubisky out there again. The Jets....they could be looking for another QB and Darnold from the Panthers could be available. None of them I really care much for. Miami has been trying to offload Tua but I think keeps asking for too much. Wentz may also be available depending on if his feelings get hurt in DC.

Who’s backing up Dak Prescott? Troy Aikman.. They don't have anyone after cut down. They might bring back Rush or Grier.

Who’s backing up Dak Prescott? Troy Aikman.. How stupid are they not to claim Webb when he was cut!! He was the best QB in the league this preseason as we have been informed from a self proclaimed very knowledgeable fan out here..

But the question is; are any of those QBs an answer for the Giants? No I think I agree. The only one that might become available in trade worth forgoing a high draft pick is Lamar Jackson. And I'd say that it is a slim chance he becomes available at best.

What!! No respect for Gardner Minshew out here.. I'm embarrassed so many of you fans can't see pure talent even after a preseason of greatness..

Today I learned that Davis Webb is an incredible QB. Webb 2023 either that or we sign Carson Strong, and be done with it...

That’s the one that jumps at me too. I’m not pounding the drum for him, I don’t think he’ll be available, but, I think he’s the most interesting option when paired with Dabol and Kafka.

I know Pickett was drafted but I thought Trubisky is the starter...just mentioning him because he's one of the first that came to mind.

If DJ doesn't stay healthy this season, the Giants may end up still not knowing if he is the guy or not.
Let's hope he can play the whole season.

But the question is; are any of those QBs an answer for the Giants? Probably not. The only one not totally damaged goods is Tua but he was more about the Alabama hype coming out of college I think. If Miami has been looking to get rid of him, there also has to be a reason...which I think was the hype. The only solution I can see if Jones is not the guy is to grab someone in the draft. That is all dependent on the place of pick and how much they are in love with someone or if they even are. QB is that position you can't really settle with and is probably the biggest crapshoot. Worst case scenario as some have said, Jones just isn't the guy. I think if we end up in the mid-round area to pick and we want someone we are going to have to give up picks to go get them which sets us back from getting people to fill our other weaknesses.

It does when the receivers can't get separation and the two that can are always injured.. I realize we are currently stuck with that, but it's certainly not the continued plan or something you look for a new franchise QB to require the traits to overcome.

Let's hope he can play the whole season. actually, I think that goes a long way into determining that he isn't the guy.. all 4 yrs of his career missing chunks of the season would probably seal his fate unless somehow he is so good in the games he plays that they roll the dice on better health going forward. The odds are against that so personally I think the front office has already turned the page on DJ and making plans who to get next year as a replacement via draft, free agency, or trade

Daniel Jones needs a huge Break Out Season, No Excuses! Blaming the Line, blaming Golladay "Lack of Separation"... Schoen and Daboll did not draft him so it is no pressure on them to keep him and continue to try and Develop him. Yes they will Move on and Scout and bring in their own guy if DJ is not the guy
A Very strong 2023 QB Class if all live up to their Potential this coming college season: C.J. Stroud Bryce Young Will Levis Anthony Richardson Jaren Hall

If we like Jones after this season is there some reason that we have to franchise tag him as everyone is saying? Couldn't we just offer him a medium-term deal?

If we like Jones after this season is there some reason that we have to franchise tag him as everyone is saying? Couldn't we just offer him a medium-term deal? for me it would say to Jones to prove it again. Nothing wrong with that. But it all depends on what Schoen and Daboll want to see from him.

QB in 2023

What I like about this thread is the acknowledgment that Jones’ replacement doesn’t have to be a high draft pick from 2023. I hate that assumption. It’s like going to a bar and saying “I’m going to marry someone here”. Really???
Most (65-70%) of first round QBs don’t sign their next deal with the team that drafted them (at least since 2012ish).
So I don’t mind looking for a good QB from somewhere else, at the same time as doing your due dili in the draft. I don’t mind a stop gap QB until the FO sees their future franchise QB.
