It didn't survive the cold weather and it had a heating system below it. I'm surprised, then. I figured the crate area under the roots was allowing cold air to come in, and a heating system wold prevent that.

They should play on bubbling, gurgling molten lava

Gotta say I'm truly disappointed we aren't going with natural grass Why couldn't the Giants do dirt like a baseball infield or a tennis court? It would be a safer natural surface and easy to maintain despite heavy use. Is there a reason besides appearance that this could not be a viable option?

Pat Leonard is the worst Giants beat reporter ever. "John Mara told me." John also told him they will "continue to review" why they have sucked for a decade. JM is good at making money running an NFL franchise, which is pretty easy once you get one. Creating a winning organization, not so much. Leonard is a joke.

‘All options on the table’Statement from John Mara leaves door open for installation of grass surface “The next field in the stadium is the subject of ongoing discussion between the Jets, the stadium and us,” the Giants’ statement said. “John has heard from the players and other experts about playing surfaces as part of his roles on the player safety and health committee, competition committee and management council. He expects to have conversations with our players as we move along in the process of selecting a new field.”

Kyler Murray tore his ACL on a non contact injury on natural grass. I understand that he was imagining they were playing in the Meadowlands though...

Kyler Murray tore his ACL on a non contact injury on natural grass. Yup and the method by which MetLife stadium could go to natural grass would be an identical mimic of the way it is done in Arizona. Not very encouraging for the natural grass option.

There's a video on YouTube which explains very well how an ACL is torn. I didn't watch the whole thing so I don't know whether playing on natural grass or an artificial surface makes a difference. Very interesting frame by frame at approximately 2:56 of the video.

The NFL did a study where It found that the rate of ACL injuries was 88 percent higher on FieldTurf than grass, and the rate of ankle sprains was 32 percent higher.
Of course, you can still tear your NFL on grass, you can tear it in a swimming pool. There is clearly a bigger picture here.

You can train to make your muscles stronger, but you can't make your ligaments stronger. The type of movement and the force which is used to make that movement, to me, is a greater factor in tearing an ACL than the surface upon which the injury takes place.

It's probably a combination of both, but NFL players are bigger, stronger, faster and are doing things that the human body was not meant to do at that size and weight.

That doesn't mean you give up and don't replace the horrible artificial surface that is there. Control what you can control and that means improving field, ideally to turf. The Eagles are able to maintain a natural surface in the NE so Metlife should as well. I am not stupid and I recognize that two teams play in MetLife vs just one in Philly but still improvements can and should be made.

My point is simply that there are other factors involved in torn ACLs. If playing on grass eliminated the injury, then all NFL fields would have grass (of course there are climatic conditions that would prohibit the use of grass, but that's another issue.) If you watch the video that I posted above, you'll see an explanation of how a torn ACL occurs and that was Kyler Murray on grass.

Slit-film turf is the worst (statistically speaking). Which is the style that we currently have and also used to have prior to switching vendors a few years back

Kyler Murray tore his ACL on a non contact injury on natural grass. Your point? Is natural grass more or less likely to result in a player suffering a non contact injury?

Kyler Murray tore his ACL on a non contact injury on natural grass. Anecdotal. What matters is the overall data.

You can train to make your muscles stronger, but you can't make your ligaments stronger. I agree. Muscle strength is much easier to increase than ligament strength. But the lack of give on artificial turf exacerbates the issue.

To be honest your ligaments get stronger when you lift along with the mussels where guys were having issues more when they were using performance enhancers the mussels starts to out do Tendons and Ligaments. What you just said is also factors in when force and mass combine to make the perfect storm.

Well, my son blew his ACL in a non-contact drill on natural grass... STILL want grass at MetLife!!! It is the safer of the 2 Barkley and I believe OBJ s first ACL were both on grass in Chicago and Cleveland. All I know when I was power lifting my Tendons and ligaments kept everything tight I never used tight raps I always trained with sleeves but never raps. My buddy used to rap up so tight it added forty pounds to his squat he claimed he rapped me once I said no thanks. My trainer told me if I stayed all natural my ligaments and Tendons would strengthen with my training he was a biochemist that did power lifting and strongman competitively, for me it seemed to work. tho lifting is static we don't deal with force of running mass pounding the ground.
