Riding Dallas for taking a QB prospect with a 4th round trade shows a real lack of perception. He wasn't acquired to play this year (even if he might have to in the case of 2 Dallas QB injuries). The fact that he looked bad in SF means something but doesn't mean Lance can't be coached up (thus the 4th round flier that Dallas will get back as a compensation pick for Shultz or some other player). It's a gamble with not a lot of downside and potential really good upside. Dallas is one of the best (actually the best) at choosing and coaching players up into the pro ranks. I'll bet they've hired someone to school him on playing QB in the NFL. Meanwhile he'll be running scout teams, occasionally getting some work with the ones. Hopefully he won't get called into action in a real game this year. It is pretty darned rare that a 3rd string QB has to play. I just don't get these board members saying or acting like Dallas screwed up. So if Lance doesn't work out he just doesn't work out and Dallas is out a 4th rounder. How often do 4th rounders work out for any team???? You are showing a distinct lack of understanding of value. Trey Lance is a QB3 for the Cowboys. A QB3 can be had for nothing off the waiver wire, etc. It doesn't matter if they are getting a 4th round pick back for Schultz, Dallas gave up a midround pick for something that could be had for free or a much later pick. You can delude yourself with the "potentially really good upside" but Trey Lance was with Kyle Shanahan for years and he couldn't get Lance to look like even a backup. The film on Trey Lance in his limited play time hasn't even reached the level of a QB3 in this league. That's the truth and the film backs it up. If it weren't for his draft position, he'd be looking for a backup job in the CFL. Maybe Dallas hits it big here but I severely doubt it. Giving up a mid round pick was an overpayment.

Lance is a QB3 . . . for now ! He just came to the team and this is the same for many starting QB's. IE: Joe Montana, Roger Staubach, Tom Brady, and many more HOF QB's have started as backups. There have been 10 backup QB's lead their teams to the SB (including Hostetler). And was Dallas guaranteed to get Lance if he hits the free agent market? Hell no ! I've already posted that Buffalo was outbid (they offered a 5th) for Lance by Dallas. Other organizations were obviously interested in Lance. So there was no guarantee of getting Lance without the trade. I've already offered this info but somehow you missed it in your studying of the Trey Lance trade process. I've also supplied informational history of how Kyle Shanahan has screwed up with his QB's as a HC. If Dallas drafting and UDFA player acquisition was mediocre like some teams then this could be a problem but Dallas is one of the best at acquiring NFL talent. In fact Dallas has 88 players that they acquired initially (before any other team) which is #1. I'll trust their talent perceptions and opinions a lot more than yours. Obviously I don't agree with your thought processes or any of your takes concerning this trade.

Otherwise, he would be working at Walmart I love that Jerry made this deal on his own … lol
