Loved Marino at Pitt. Was so hoping the Giants drafted him
Best of all-time imo although he was picked off at some rough moments. We all lost out on the ultimate rematch in 1985.

He’s every quarterbacks favorite quarterback.. It’s lame how whenever his name is brought up his lack of rings follows right behind him. In a team sport where the other 52 players are just as important. Thunder Dan will always be labeled as not a winner. Even though he has had only two losing seasons to his name. And ten playoff appearances.. It took Terrell Davis to finally get the monkey off John Elways back. Marino never had a back to take the pressure off of him. Being that he was the offense and you had to go through him.. In those cold and unforgiving days in Bills country where a running game is crucial. He was left to air it out as the Buffalo stampede trampled him.
He had the misfortune of being born in the wrong era. Put him in this league where quarterbacks have the rules and players to their advantage. He would tear all the record books. And start writing new pages.

Marino was great, but for my money Montana is the GOAT. Mahomes is the first that I think could be the new greatest.

I also believe Montana is the greatest as well. Mahomes is a fine QB. My question to myself when comparing athletes from different eras are can they compete in differently eras. Montana, Marino, Kelly, and so forth can they compete in todays I think they definitely can. Todays era rules are so much different and more offensive friendly. Can todays compete in past, not sure. Can today QB, especially Mohames handle the beatings of LT, Reggie White, Mean Joe, Derrick Thomas, Lott, just to name a couple. Don’t think so, with his size. It’s was so much more physical. Not to discredit todays players. For todays rules, they are good. I don’t know if it’s my age or era I truly enjoyed, so I see it differently.

Brady did it with a lot less talent around him than Montana had.

Montana said otherwise though and Marino was the best passer I ever saw. Heck, look how much the game has changed. Joe Montana in 3 years of college totaled 25 TD passes. Marino’s college stats over 4 year was 74 TDS. Baker Mayfield threw for 131 TDS. Marino in this NFL? Please, he’s above and beyond the rest. Not even close.

Marino was the best pure passer I ever saw play the game, but in the end I'm also gonna look at guys that piled up SB wins. And while I don't know the technical answer, 4 SB wins is the smallest group to be called a pile for my example. Marino was the greatest passer; Brady did the greatest things with those passes.

Rules allow for the last moment FG to win the bowls. Brady could have won more and certainly lost more. A few FG, the Falcons fiasco and the Hawks screw up along with two Giants loses.

Marino was great, but for my money Montana is the GOAT. Mahomes is the first that I think could be the new greatest. Montana was a winner. He played the game to win not put up crazy stats. He was clutch. I remember seeing him lead an amazing comeback for Notre Dame when I was a little kid. He did some funny stuff because pressure did not get to him. The John Candy story is good. Calling his wife from the field was funny as well. No cell phones in those days. Bill Walsh reportedly wanted Phil Simms in that draft.
