I’m a big NC State fan and wanted to throw Payton Wilson’s name over the fence as a potential target in next years draft. In short, Wilson has a nose for the ball and is consistently making plays behind the LOS. His ability to dissect plays, his motor, his willingness to hit, and his toughness are all top notch. He’s typically the first to the ball and he doesn’t hesitate to hit. You’ll hear him described as “a football player” by most who’ve watched him play The one issue I can see is injuries. He’s a tough kid, constantly playing through pain, but because of the way he throws his body around he’s been known to get banged up. Due to that, I assume he’ll be a day-3 prospect. Wouldn’t hate to see him added to this LB rotation. packinsider.com/2023/10/02/nc-states-payton-wilson-named-acc-linebacker-of-the-week/?fbclid=IwAR0DeGW8F5iqf5rDHsGQwBdemvo-L-aKc3P5ma-TgJ-ci39jAg_kPo4eT1w

Too many injuries. Had a lot of surgeries already. Correct, he’s been banged up. Depending on how he finishes this season I think he could be worth a day-3, late round flier.

great job following him 👍
Thanks. It makes it easier to follow being a fan of the team (NC State). I've been watching Wilson his whole career and have seen him live a bunch. He was awesome this year. Always around the ball and flies around the field. He also stayed healthy, which was a concern coming into the season.
Even though I'm a big State fan, I try my best to be unbiased when it comes to evaluating players for the Giants. With his injury history I'd assume Wilson will end up being looked at as a Day-3 pick...maybe late Day-2. Either way, I think he has the instincts and athleticism to play the position and I would not mind seeing him in blue.

Listening to Talkin Giants podcast this morning from the Senior Bowl, and in the first five minutes they bring up Payton Wilson. Apparently Bobby Skinner, one of the hosts, interviewed Wilson and is doing a film breakdown of him later this week so I'll make sure to post them when he does.
In short, Bobby mentioned the injury history and how it may drop Wilson's stock, but went on to say Wilson's aggressiveness and the way he flies around the field while staying true to his responsibilities was like watching controlled chaos. Thought that was a pretty good description of his game.
Can't wait to see what they have to say.

Film breakdown from Talkin Giants: They just interviewed him after the drills were done. Sounds like a really good kid, certainly seems to have his head together.

Yea, seems like a good kid by all accounts. Don’t recall him getting into any trouble on or off the field. His previous shoulder injury combined with the way he throws his body around would make me a bit hesitant to draft him prior to day-3. If we end up acquiring more picks by trading back from #6 then I’d feel more comfortable taking a swing in the 3rd. Otherwise, I’d be thrilled if he fell to the 4th or 5th.

Think he will be a low 3rd round pick maybe mid 4 only because this draft goes down hill fast around mid 4th top of 5th. The warning is already out about trades involving lower round picks, lots of top draft eligible kids stayed in college for the money and chance to either play for a national championship or enter the portal and transfer to a place that they might fit better to boost their draft stock in next years draft. I read teams might be trying to off load 4th through 7th round picks to move up. If i'm the Giants those first 4 picks in the top 70 are gold i'm not trading them for anything less than a huge return the top half of this draft probably has ten players that could have been top 5 in any other draft. I want a QB bad but this is a team building draft if one falls or they find themselves in position to draft someone later fine think Wilson would be a great pick if he makes to the top of the 4th

Love Wilson. What a motor on him. He is the Pennix of the defense as far as injuries go also he plays a position off ball LB that should but is not as valued as it once was.

He's like Penix, if it wasn't for the injuries, they'd be drafted MUCH higher

I've been Football man-crushing on this guy for months. I understand the concern about the injuries, however. If he can somehow avoid them in the NFL, guy has the potential to be a beast.

Considering our needs I’m not sure where it’d make sense to grab him. His stock seems to have risen quite a bit but I could see him slipping due to those injuries you mention. If he’s somehow there in Rd4 I’d have no issue pulling the trigger. If we trade back in Rd1 ands acquire more picks, a day-2 pick could be worth the risk. Either way, the kid is a football player. He’ll become a fan favorite for whatever team drafts him.
