To the Bears for a 2024 2nd rounder should be pretty high.

Bears are morons. Really? A very high #2 for a free agent?
now Sweat can demand to be the highest paid player, besides a QB, in the NFL. The Bears couldn’t have signed him on the open market for that and kept the high #2 pick?
morons

While the Commanders would have accepted an empty lot.. Chicago decided to give them the Sears tower. After years of not being able to sit down after Leonard Williams screwed us. The Bears decided to join in and see how it feels to get ****** Montez can make Chicago sweat for a bit after being an expensive rental. Lost season.. and giving up draft capital. He has them by the jugular.. and can squeeze every last penny out of them. Laughable trade.. The Bears are hibernating early this year..

However we have a poster here telling us how little we understand about football and the NFL because it was a very smart move by the Bears.

I am not saying it is a good move. Time will tell if it is. But I do see the logic in their motivation. They control his contract.

The Bears traded a their 2nd round pick for a rental. His agent knows they have the Bears right were they want them.

They are going to sign him or tag him. No doubt. If they tag him. They are getting 27 games out of him for 24 million. I do not think that is an awaful deal for a player of his caliber for a 2nd.

He is on a pace for 14. yeah, but they just traded a very high #2 pick for a guy who isn’t close to being considered a top NFL DE. Now they’re going to pay him like he’s a top DE AND lose their high 2nd round pick. No defending it, this was pretty crazy. Bears fans hate it.

Ok, Bears fans hate the trade and Washington loves it. I was miserable Williams went for a 3rd. Can’t image had the Giants paid a 2nd like Seattle just did.

Yes they can go the same route as Gettleman and Williams but the message of “we really want you here long term (every top FAs mission for a contract)” and franchising them for one year is a large gap. And we know the perceived “message” (air quotes) by players when they get franchises. They don’t like it.

It puts the player in a bind. But they agreed yo the CBA.

4-year extension $98 million in new money and $72.9 million guaranteed. Good for him and Chiago, they him got him for cheaper than average price the of tag over the next 3 and 4 seasons. The tag is 20.4 in 2024 (estimated) 24.5 in 2026 @ 120% of 2024 35.3 in 2027 @ 144% of 2024 On the tag 80.2 (three seasons)

For me, I don’t see the Giants win sloppy games with the broadcast drooling over Daniel Jones running for 1st downs.
