We all saw him struggling lately and not looking his best due to stage 4 throat cancer the past couple of years. ESPN announced he passed away this morning.
RIP Mort. Always liked him on ESPN.
God speed.

He was part of the old guard when ESPN wasn’t owned by a rat.. Back in the old days when you had to hustle to get noticed.. Mortensen was front and center of all the breaking news on the shield.
His sources were iron clad.. as when he broke a story you knew it held weight. Nothing moved in the league without him saying where and who. For someone who never caught a football.. or coached a single game. His name is etched in the very hallowed grounds of the NFL.

Really sad to see - he was a fighter and a great sports journalist. It’s a dying breed. These days there are too many “ look at me “ self absorbed clowns reporting the news. RIP

I was telling my wife that I know he years ago I think he beat it and/or was doing much better and came back to work. That was probably maybe 5-10 years or so ago. I tell ya what Cancer absolutely sucks azz smdh. Lost my Father i 2016 actually he beat throat cancer long time ago and was good for years. Then years later he developed I believe it was in the chest area. Then a few weeks ago lost my Step Dad after he was diagnosed in August. It absolutely sucks........
RIP to them and Mort and everyone who has been lost......

Yup Adam Shefter was suppposed to be the new Mort and he has decently filled that role but these times will never be like how when Mort did it pre all the social media stuff and being able to get news everywhere instantly.

RIP Chris
To me the “Prime Time” era of the 90s and 00s was prime NFL
That was back when the sport was not so watered down. Big games had a feel. There was no media saturation, checkins from guys like Mort at various locations actually broke new information.
Inside the NFL, Prime Time, MNF, Madden and Summerall, Mort, Ed Werder, Sal Pal, If you know you know
