Chalk this one up in the really not important category but did you guys notice our draft room compared to the other teams?
I got to hand to Schoen and John Mara for turning the Giants draft room into a state-of-the-art facility.

This was a big part of his first year, year and a half. This guy is just getting his program up and running, every bit of info on a player film GPS on field info stats everything possible is at everyones fingertips now it is awesome for scouts coaches brass ownership they all have everything they could on every player on that board at the touch of the key pad.

IDK, maybe I am crazy but I don't give a damn about how "modernized" the draft room is. They could use a school room calk board with different color chalk, a few stone tablets for player detail and an abacus to calculate metrics and it wouldn't matter one whit to me. I want them to draft good players and so far Schoen and crew have not done a stellar job at that. It is still early even for his first draft so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt, but so far zero hits. Some hopefuls, but no hits. Maybe spend less time on the new paint and pretty screens and more time finding talent. Still just lipstick on a pig.

It goes without saying that they need to pick the right players, but I am in favor of any technological advantages that will help them do that.

This guy is just getting his program up and running, Exactly. This is why I laugh at the fans who want instant gratification. He’s building a program. A new franchise, if you will. It takes time. Do I want to see the Giants with double digit wins and playoff appearances this season? Of course. But if we’re tracking upwards while building a program with long term sustainability, that is more important than short term “flash in the pan” results. Listen to Schoen discuss the Nabers pick. Listen to Schoen’s presser after the entire draft was over. He’s talking about 2-3 year windows and ensuring that as contracts move out, rookie contracts move in. He’s talking about players learning the culture. He’s talking about the coaches building schemes around the players’ skill sets and strengths. This is refreshing. Giants fans haven’t seen or heard this type of GM speak in decades. Like you said: he’s building a program. I ****ing love it.

Agreed. The organization has grown considerably since his arrival.
I like him. He seems to be doing things the right way even though there were set backs last year. Hopefully those were simply growing pains and we'll see growth this season and beyond.

I just don't see it as an indication of anything, because it isn't. All the new toys in the world isn't going to make a person better at talent evals. It might make them more efficient, but even that is no guarantee. Now, I don't think you can properly evaluate a draft until after three full seasons. So I still think there is time before we judge the first draft and I am still quite optimistic on all they players they have drafted. But to date, not a single pick JS has made as GM has been a hit. Not one, zilch, nada, nothing. So, nice new toys and all, but lets do something with them otherwise we are just pissing more money away on shiny things.

What I find more valuable though is results. We haven't seen any yet. If you give me a choice between top notch tech or top notch results, I'm taking the top notch results. So far, nothing as far as results, so forgive me for not caring at all about their shiny things. If they used a mystic with a floating crystal ball and magnets under the table to make their selections and those selection turned out great, I'd prefer that to all the new technological shiny things, slogans and paint jobs. Because results are much more important than methods. Whatever method produces the results you want are good methods. Whatever methods don't produce good results are bad methods. Really can't believe this is even a discussion point that needs defending.

I'm sick of hearing it's it's year 3 where the wins this e3 draft classes are all in their infancy, the development of players is never the same some take a year some take 3 or 4 years. I'm with you I love everything their doing it might take a full 4 years I want sustainability and continuity we won't get those thing changing every 4 years lets roll with these guys they have a plan it might not happen over night but when it does it will be sustainable.

" and if Toney turned into a great player, and his draft and free agency moves turned this team into a perennial SB contender would anyone be complaining about his methods? He wasn't a shit GM because he didn't use new tech. New tech would not have transformed him into a good GM. Sorry to burst your illusions here, but DG was not a new paint job, a new slogan and a few shiny computers away from being a great GM.

It’s not the fact that the draft room is modern that matters right?
I’m sure it does on some level, but it’s an overall philosophy of how to run the franchise, and what you’re changing to make it operate better.
I shit on Getty a lot, but more than “they guy” it’s the type of management he represents. Not a great communicator (Maras words not mine), doesn’t utilize technology, didn’t prioritize culture or strategic direction other than “hog mollies”.
So as jmike said, the lipstick on the pig doesn’t matter.
But to me it’s signalling that they’re trying to get better at everything, and technology is a tool not a solution, and that’s exactly what this franchise was missing.
We’re 3 off-seasons into using technology and analytics where the rest of the NFL has been using it for somewhere around 12 years. And if you even have a rudimentary knowledge of this stuff, the amount of data matters, and I bet we weren’t collecting it before 2021.
