Joe Schoen’s message of patience is a tough sell as he enters Year 3 with a roster led by the QB he gave a $160M contract. It’s not demanding “instant gratification” to expect a team at this stage of its build to be ready to contend:EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — A year after trying to “expedite the process,” New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen has changed his tune. Now, Schoen is preaching patience and emphasizing how it will take time to build the roster.
That’s a tough message to send entering Year 3. A surprisingly successful debut season raised expectations and led to Schoen’s attempt to speed up the rebuild around Daniel Jones after giving the quarterback a four-year, $160 million contract.theathletic.com/5454237/2024/04/28/new-york-giants-nfl-draft-joe-schoen-patienceI like Schoen, but I agree with Dan.

I don't think he's selling anything that's a "tough sell". He seems to be building a solid team with a good foundation.

He seems to be building a solid team with a good foundation. I so agree with this. The team overachieved the 1st season. And under performed the 2nd again with huge amount of injuries. No team in the NFL really competes when the 3rd string QB is taking a large percentage of snaps. So here we are year 3. I think we have an improved line. Improved WR core, This is it. The absolute last chance for Jones, So he better be ready week1 or he may find himself LOCKed into a backup role. What do we do next year. No Idea. I think our starting QB in 2025 is not on the roster.

Shoen said “we are not two players away” Which reallt makes me wonder why the Giants didn’t trade back Because when you're this bad, and the coaches job is hanging in the balance, you absolutely have to hit on your pick with an impact player. The further they move back the less likely they are to get an impact player. Yes they can find one later, but not messing around and instead adding a player you think can have a Diggs level impact on your team is the right move.

Plugged in, always insightful, and usually fair to great takes that don't overreact one way or another.

He was coach of the year and lost his QB last yr if this Shoen is looking for his Diggs, and wanted to move up for his Allen and keeps wants to keep collecting spare parts from Buffalo this isn’t going to work.

The coach is an offensive guru and we put one of the worst offenses ever on the field last year. He can't afford to have that happen again. He needs to score and win. These owners just fired 3 coaches in a row after 2 seasons. How many seasons of red headed Daboll will they put up with if he's putting a crap product on the field. I agree last year isn't really his fault, but if he doesn't do good this year then his seat will be on fire.
Not sure what your last sentence means lol. Adding a WR 1 to any roster has a tremendous impact, Schoen/Daboll seen it first hand and the rest of the league knows this. Hell the Chiefs just traded up for a WR they wanted and they have Patrick Mahommes and Travis Swift. They needed an impact player and they got one.

he’s not a guru, he’s a football coach who had a QB who lived with his parents and no offensive line. Just b/c front office are a dysfunctional family doesn’t another coach is on the hot seat imo. and the last sentence means our GM is obsessed with becoming the Bills and so are certain fans. And the Chiefs? They just traded up with the rival Bills need a WR

A rookie QB rarely plays well, so it's going to be 2026 before this team has a real chance at succeeding. It's not just DJ, it's picks, and money, wasted on Waller. It's every OLine move being a disaster. It's letting tradeable assets walk for nothing. There's holes in the roster and no depth anywhere. It goes way beyond DJ...he's made A LOT of mistakes fans intentionally overlook.

Every GM has some kind of plan. I just can’t seem to see what Schoen is trying to do. I think I’m done criticizing Schoens off-season. Time to just let this season play out.

He's building a team to stop the passing game and to pass the ball. You know, a modern NFL team. Just needs to wait until after 2024 to plug in his QB1.

It goes way beyond DJ...he's made A LOT of mistakes fans intentionally overlook. Yup, that’s why I’d rather we would have taken a swing and possible miss on a QB this year. IF DJ shits the bed they will be forced to sign/trade for a vet FA OR draft a rookie that they clearly won’t want OR be in the position to draft without giving up a shitload of future picks which won’t happen IMO. Even if they get said QB, they have to hope they nailed it and they also either have to pay DJ 50 million next year and let the rookie sit a year (plays in 2026 and hopefully lights it up) or throw him to the wolves which a lot of people here think is a great idea once we have a loaded roster which should happen by year 4 of a rebuild if the GM is worth a shit. Basically if DJ doesn’t prove to be a franchise QB this year, not just a little above average, then we’re f’ed for a few more years unless we overpay for a vet ro hopefully save the day (Cousins and Dak, lol). But remember you can never “force” a QB pick which is exactly what they’ll be doing next year if DJ sucks or unless they’re picking in the top 3-4 and they still may not get a good QB.

What team wanted to trade up to 6? which didn’t? Loosely translated, "I don't have a clue if a team wanted to trade up. But it sounds awesome on a message board to simply claim, 'we should have traded back.'" Keep doing you.
