From doing backflips.. To crushing the backs of quarterbacks. The Haitian sensation was a force of nature on the gridiron. We rode that storm all the way to a championship. As Tuck was battling death in his inner circle.. And Umenyiora missing a chunk of the season due to injuries. Someone had to rise above the ashes and start taking over games.
JPP not only stepped up.. he stepped on the necks of opposing offenses. Teams tried to lock him down and throw away the key. For he was murder against the run.. As he assaulted all quarterbacks. He was well on his way of becoming the next great defender in franchise history. If not for him blowing up his hand and becoming a Simpsons character.

So far the only shockers to me is how low Cruz and Burt are. I know they both had short careers with the Giants but both were outstanding when here.

There aren't that many WR's that I can think of that will be ahead of Cruz. Rote, Toomer, Burress, Beckham, and Giff are all I can think of.

When you think of bell cow backs.. Hamptons name rings the loudest. During the early ‘90s where offenses ran through the back. Rodney was our first.. second.. and third option. Need a first down.. give it to Rodney. Need to eat some clock.. Feed it to Rodney. Need a touchdown.. Who else but Rodney. He was a Giant in every sense of the word.

You gotta love Joe Morris and the appreciation he has for having played in the NFL and being a NY Giant.
And right now Chris Snee looks like he literally weighs 2/3s of what he weighed while he was a player.

When Lawrence Taylor hung up his cleats.. And stowed away his blood spattered jersey. We had a void at linebacker that needed to be filled. While most would have given the reigns to a high draft pick. It was an 8th round pick who would carry the tradition. Armstead wasn’t given a starting spot.. or promised to be one of 53 to make the team.
He had to earn it the hard way. While most linebackers of the day were down hill maniacs. Jessie had the wheels to play on our dime package. And be one of our gunners on specials. The player who once waited an eternity for his name to be called. Can look up in the rafters and see it amongst the legends of the franchise.

Any list without John Mendenhall is just a joke. He's almost as essential to Giant Defensive lore as the greatest, LT. In my 55 years of attending Giant games there have been many times that Giant fans gave a standing "O" when our defense ran off the field. But, John Mendenhall was the first player, all by himself, who got standing "O's" for his individual efforts in a defensive stand. LT was the 2nd. I remember hearing Tom Landry say about John Mendenhall that he was the best Defensive Linemen he ever saw! This coming from the Coach of Bob Lilly, Ed Too Tall Jones, Jethro Pugh, Harvey Martin and Randy White. IMO one of the Best D lines hell best D line up the Giants ever had was back in 1978 George Martin - Brad VanPelt - CB Terry Jackson Troy Archer - Harry Carson - RCB Ray Rhodes John Mendenhall - Brian Kelly - SS Beasley Reece Jack Gregory - - FS Ernie Jones Only 6''1 and 255, but a human dynamo. Made tackles 20 yards downfield.with pure hustle until the whistle.

I'm going to guess top 5
LT Strahan Eli Barber Carson
Maybe my age bias though. YA Title up there?
Toomer Banks top 10.
Oh shoot, forgot Daniel Jones!
But seriously, Andrew Thomas will be there one day. Dex could be too.

Hell, Carson is going to have problems tackling the top five. You can etch Taylor into granite at one. Not even light can touch him at the top spot. Next you have the last sixty minute man, Mel Hein. If not for playing during the Great Depression, he would be a household name. Not far behind him you have Emlen Tunnel. 79 career interceptions. Case closed.. Going back to the offense you have Frank Gifford. Wellingtons favorite player.. Hollywood looks with toughness to match. And rounding off the list is the guy who paved the way for Gifford with highway for lanes. Rosevelt Brown.. The best tackle ever for us.

LT Simms Manning Strahan Carson Tunnell Gifford Brown Tittle Hein Those are my guesses for top 10 Bavaro, Toomer, Banks are up there. In the low teens. And, of course, Lauletta, Nassib and Unai Unga. EDIT. Welp. Wrong about Simms and wrong about Tittle. They were 11 and 12 on the list.

In the city that never sleeps.. No one kept defenses up at night more than Mark Bavaro. In a sport where you’re graded in toughness.. Bavaro passed with flying colors. As tendons burst.. and ligaments shred. Not even a broken jaw slowed him down.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner through a straw was just part of the job. Kids looked up to him.. Men wanted to meet him. And defenders tried to avoid him. The player of few words.. And yet his name still echoes the halls of our stadium.

Am I the only person who read this and began hearing John Facenda's voice at "As tendons burst....?

Bump for the top 10. Amazing to see Rosie Brown ranked right after LT. Well deserved. They were saying he was one of the best left tackles ever. The whole series of videos were great to watch. Really well done. Very classy thing for the organization to do. I was surprised Eli wasn’t lower on the list. But I agree with all of the decisions.

There’s things you never do.. Don’t spit into the wind.. Don’t poke the bear.. And never pull on Lawrence Taylor’s cape.. In the history of this game there are only a select few who remain on top of Mount Olympus. Names like, Jim Brown. A titan during his days, a player who stood the tallest in a sport full of giants. Jerry Rice.. His numbers read off like a telephone book. As his trophy case is filled to the brim. And then you have Lawrence Taylor. The bringer of pain.. A one man army.. Death to all offenses.
It didn’t take long for opposing teams to take notice. Matter of fact.. it took mere minutes. Running backs were running for cover.. Offensive linemen were trembling in fear. As families of fallen quarterbacks read their eulogies. In a sport full of tough men.. he was the toughest. From his no pain.. no gain game of ‘88.
To playing with a hairline fracture to his tibia. He also carried with him ten all-pros.. Ten pro bowls.. Three defensive player of the year. And a league MVP. Not even Michelangelo can sculpt a better body of work. He tipped the field in our favor for well over a decade. The chants of LT.. LT.. LT.. shook the northern seaboard like never before. To this day teams give him the ultimate compliment by scouring the earth for the next Lawrence Taylor. Stop looking..

For me, it's the kind of player you tell your grandson or granddaughter about 30 years after they retired. Or maybe they heard about a player and they ask you to tell them more. The memories so vivid, players who revolutionized the game. In hockey think Gretzky or Bobby Orr. In baseball, Mays, Mantle, DiMaggio... In football, you named Jimmy Brown and LT. That is a high bar to clear as it should be. Iconic should be reserved for the true unicorns of the sport.

Nicks for sure...arguably the best of them but again a career shortened by injury.

Nice to Amani ranked so high. He has flown under the radar. He has flown under the radar and he is one of those rare athlete who wasn't a real him out of the blocks. It took him several years to develope. I believe he had personal issues distracting him but he continued to work on his game and in the second half of his career became a really good one. My best memory of him was that fully laid out, toe tapping sideline catch in a big moment.

He was similar to Tiki in the sense that it took them both a few years to get going but they both became great players.
