With the NFL offseason officially in the books and all eyes focused on training camp, and the preseason which gets underway in earnest in late July, this brief lull in the schedule gives a chance to take stock of how the talent stacks up in the NFC East between the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles, Giants, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington.

Not having Hart on the line, on the team, in NY is an instant improvement in stature .

I usually read the before posting and offer commentary, but this time I figured I'd just post a lame article instead. ???

Way too soon to rate our O line. The Skins line was not great last season either. I just don't believe the Giants will put the worst O line out on the field this season. We're just going to have to wait and see where they end up ranking.

Barkley will make the Giants OL look better than they are, whether they are bad, good, or mediocre. He is going to make the QB and OL look much better.

Obviously for now it goes:
Dallas Philadelphia Washington New York
On paper that is....however a lot can change during the season. Wait and see.

I always like reading all the guessing before the season starts. but I'd rather have the team ranked last and sneak up on people.

I honestly believe the line will surprise a lot of people. That saying "It can't get any worse" applied to the last 2 seasons. Seattle's line has been equally horrid, but they masked it with a QB who could make plays with his legs. Eli is a pocket QB and shame on Reese for letting it get as bad as it did. Nowhere to go but up from this point.

Its incredibly backward, but still interesting. Why is it backward? There have been current and former talented backs who excelled regardless of their OL play. That is what makes them special. We'll see if Barkley is one of those back this upcoming season.

Yeah, of course, there have been many backs who did very well despite having not so great OL's in front of them, but I never saw a RB make a bad OL look good, which is what the previous poster implied. A good RB makes himself look good, or even great, by succeeding despite the odds.

Some RB's who have looked good behind mediocre lines and you can interpret mediocre however you'd like.
Barry Sanders OL was never very good, Lomas was a good tackle but that was it on talent. Tony Dorsett ran behind some very pedestrian lines. At times Eric Dickerson's line was so-so. Granted a good line makes a more optimal situation but believe me if an offensive lineman knows the team has a homerun hitter in the backfield his motivation goes up several increments. He'll hold that block a little longer, get off a little quicker, move crisper when pulling ... he just tries harder. This team will be much better, Eli will be better and all because of the talents of Barkley.
I'm a Cowboy fan and wished the NYG had gone QB, OL, or anything but Barkley at that #2 pick.

I'm a Cowboy fan and wished the NYG had gone QB, OL, or anything but Barkley at that #2 pick. you have to be a special kind of RB to be successful behind bad or average OL. Barry was one of those. But people are losing sight over the bigger picture and just focus on if Barkley can live up to the hype and average 5 ypc plus with 2000 all purpose yards. Sanders never had a QB as good as Eli, nor a skill player as good as ODB or probably even Engram. I expect Barkley to put up numbers similar to Faulk with the Rams than Faulk with the Colts. If he’s used like Faulk with the Rams which it looks like so far by the way he was being used in OTA, then I think we made an excellent pick. Take a look at Faulk’s numbers in Indy vs. Rams. They’re not even close. The Colts weren’t using him right. Hopefully the Giants don’t make that mistake.

Ranking is so hard to do with virtually a new Giants OL... and God only knows how Flowers will fit in. One thing is for certain there should be improvement to give Eli the time he needs to find receivers and keep DLs honest with Barkley as a running threat... cannot wait to see what they can do this season.

All it takes is one weak link and by most accounts, Flowers will still be a starter. So now Eli will at least be able to see the guy who is about to hit him instead of guessing but it doesn’t mean he’ll have more time with that human turnstile at RT.

Saw an article listing the top 8 Offensive Tackles in the NFC East. No Giant, not even Solder was on the list. Let's hope that the whole will be greater than the sum...
