Giants don’t have a choice with Odell Beckham: Phil Simms
“He is one of the best weapons on offense I’ve seen in the NFL in a long time,” Simms told The Post. “Antonio Brown is great, but he’s a different type of player. So is Julio Jones. I just look at Odell Beckham Jr. and, man, I don’t know what to say...” read more

If they want to lock him up long term they may have some leverage now with his injuries to maybe get him at a more reasonable amount over 4/5 years.
But its not going to hurt anything to let him play out his 5th year option then start tagging him. That way your not on the hook for a ton of guaranteed money if he flakes out away from the game if you go year to year

Phil Simms is wr........ He's wro...... Phil Simms is wrr...............
I can't say it. Let's try this...Phil is a little short on being right.
Odell has to show that he has not been effected by that injury, the same kind of injury that Hakeem Nicks could never recover from. He needs to play a decent part of the season and show he is the explosive player he was and that he can stay on the field. If he does.....Then pay him.

Simms is just stating the obvious that Odell needs to get paid. But since Odell is coming off of an injury the Giants are right to wait to see how he plays this year before handing him a huge contract. If Odell hadn't gotten hurt last year then I'd be on board with giving him a new contract this year.

Phil makes some good points.
IMO the Giants should be moving forward to lock him up long term which doesn't mean they haven't.

To this point, the guy is a little overrated. he needs to grow up, stay healthy and prove himself. Overrated? other than having to show he is back 100% from injury he has proven himself on the field. A couple of bad games other than that he is one of the best. If his career continues how it was prior to injury he will be an all time top WR.

Let him play off his "measly" $8 million a yr contract this yr & if he has another 90 rec 1400yd 10+ TD yr, then you pay the man.

Just seems smart to make sure he's still the guy he was.

Let him play this year on his current contact, but take out a large insurance policy for him to protect him against injury. I don’t know if the premium on that policy would count against the cap.

Definitely. Sorry, but way too many athletes stop giving a shit & giving 100% once they get their payday. OBJ needs to go out there & show he is still a top 3 WR in the NFL before he expects the Giants to give him $18 mil a yr. Helping the team make the playoffs & putting up big numbers in the playoffs wouldn't hurt either. Especially after his grand performance in his playoff debut vs GB.

I don't know the details of OBJs ankle injury but I don't think it involved any of the ligaments or tendons and was purely a fracture which looked really bad, but can be fixed with surgery rather easily. I'd be more worried if he had "just" sprained his ankle.

Once he shows he hasn't lost anything from the injury, they should absolutely pay him. I actually disagree that the ankle is more troublesome than the foot. The foot injuries can be career altering. Not only Nicks, but Dez hasn't been the same since the foot injury. A broken ankle seems more likely to properly heal. No surprise here because I am clearly a big Beckham supporter, but either way he is the type of talent that you don't let walk. Also his actions with the new regime have been excellent so far. Still has to bare out on the field, but I'm bullish that can happen.

He's been "tearing it up" since his first game as a Giant. He has nothing to prove talent wise. The rest the of the team needs to play on his level. Like him or not, he brings his all to every game. He's been the Giants offense.

Who is Phil Simms??? Why do we care what he thinks? Yes I know who he is, my point is so what if Phil thinks the Giants should or shouldn't do.The Giants will do what they want. They got burned by Cruz and don't want that to happen again,if he is healthy ...he will be paid. I'm gonna go with what Eli thinks on this as he won more Super-Bowls than Phil.

I would disagree that they got burned by Cruz. That was actually a team friendly deal.
But I do agree with you that we need to be careful with Odell. he needs to show that he's the same guy he was and that he can stay on the field. He needs to get at least to the halfway point next year before we start talking a new deal.
