Giants have been using him in the slot. I like the idea of a mature leader in the backfield to help groom the young guys.
He seems smart, and looks young for a 33 year old.
Hopefully he's our guy and stays healthy.

As last year showed we certainly have a need of some steady veteran leadership, and it sounds like that is exactly what he brings to the table.

I tend not to get too excited about any player during OTA's and mini camps. Preseason will give most of us a better idea of where this team is headed. Gay may be a veteran, but if he can't cover, it doesn't matter how long he's been in the league.
The corner position is now a position of concern. I'm hoping there are at least 3 quality CB's in this bunch who can suit up on Sunday's and do the job well. Jenkins is the only proven so far. Still scratching my head about letting Cockrell walk. His play was far above Apples, that's for sure.

I think he will complement our secondary.

And I agree with you about Cockrell, and believe me I'm still scratching my head over the Apple pick. And I said this the day of the draft that it was a panic move. And I have a plethora of posts on the old board to prove it. So far I fear my worse thoughts are brought out. One positive he hasn't been called for holding anywhere near the amount of times I thought he would be. Cause he was a holding machine at Ohio St. maybe some coaching has gotten thru to him.

Apple holds because he can't locate the ball in the air. Once the receiver shows he's located the ball, instead of Apple making a play on the ball, he grabs. He's usually in good position, but his ball awareness is awful. If the coaches can get this corrected, and that's a big if, he may turn out to be serviceable. He should have never been drafted in the 1st round. I still remember every network having a WTF look on their face when the selection came in.

Giants obviously focused on character and leadership, as much as anything, with some of the veterans they brought in this year. Man, that locker room last year must have been some mess.

Jenkins will do his part, but everyone else including Apple is a huge question mark.

i think Gay will be a leader in the secondary. hes coming from a top notch organization and was effective for them for many years. his experience will no doubt be invaluable to our Giants. he'll just add to that group and hopefully will exceed all expectations. I also like the fact that is almost injury free for his career. hopefully he keeps that up.
