One year is just far too soon to grade an NFL draft and put a permanent stamp on it. Three years? We can get behind that. But one? Too big an overreaction. Just look at the sheer number of second- and third-year breakouts for players in recent years following a sub-par rookie season — there are at least a dozen examples every year. But it is fair to wonder which teams hit it big, which ones are feeling regret and which ones might have just struck a solid single up the middle with their first-round selections. We think there are examples of each category a few days short of one year later. Naturally, the quarterbacks provide the most fascinating debate, even after such a relatively short amount of time. We have only one going to his original team, which is interesting, and we know the Arizona Cardinals wouldn’t be likely to take Josh Rosen again amid rumors they might want to move on from him this year.
Rosen’s projection and fit take a hit after his first-year struggles, but you get the idea his environment had a lot to do with that. That’s why we still feel there was a team in Round 1 a year ago that could have been a far better fit from the outset.
Let’s take a look at what a redo might look now:
1. Cleveland BrownsActual pick: Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield Redraft pick: Mayfield Let’s not get cute here. Find me one sane person who would choose anyone else. 2. New York GiantsActual pick: Penn State RB Saquon Barkley Redraft pick: USC QB Sam Darnold
This would be our chloroform-Dave-Gettleman selection, and he can’t do anything about it. Look, we love Barkley; he’s special for sure. But Darnold showed enough across town late in Year 1 to suggest he could be very good at the far more important position for a longer time than Barkley will be a special running back.

I don't get the Darnold thing at this point. He showed enough last season that he may not be a very good QB as much or if not more than he showed he could be a good one. Jury still out on that kid rookie with a bad team I get it, but the whole notion of him being definite "stud" = bs.

You don't take Vinny Testaverde 2.0 with the number 2 overall pick
Ever
I wanted Mayfield..The consolation prize is fine by me.

It's way too early for any of this nonsense and the reality is I don;t care how good Darnold may be for the team he leads, he's either a QB that can advance you through the playoffs or he is not.
I doubt we get that answer in three years, and we may never know.

I could see Darnold winning multiple championships if the Jets put pieces around him which they have. my concern if I was a Jets fan about Darnold he may be a bit injury prone, his first year and already missed a few games with a sprained ankle.

I don't know what Darnold showed at the end of last year to get excited about ? SQB is our guy for around 10 years, it's up to management to build the rest of the team. The same as the Jets need to do. Our QB is coming this year or next and we'll still have Saquon.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that if we could do a draft do-over one year later, the first 3 picks would be identical to what already occurred. I don't see DG second guessing his decision after year 1. Saquon was amazing, and while Darnold did some really nice things, there were some issues as well.
